The reason why the Destruction of the Temple by Yasuke is such a bad image is because Japan Respects their own Culture and Traditions. Even the Non religious Japanese would find a Black man destroying a Shinto Temple distasteful. For another Counter point. In The game Ghost of Tsushima, Temples and Other Japanese Religious Sites are completely Invulnerable.

The "Asians" in the company are just western people - they are french or American or Canadian with Asian skin colour. They have ZERO idea or understanding of Japan. I would strongly bet that relying on the DEI Asian group rather than actual experts is *almost certainly* why we are in this situation.

I think the thing that makes it bad is how Ubisoft keeps saying they are doing stuff to show respect to Japanese culture and then put things in the game that do the opposite. Both the personality of the characters and also "showing respect to Japanese culture" means that these things shouldn't be done. Neither Naoe nor Yasuke would destroy Shrines and Temples. They both would know better and would have respect for those things so why would either be able to do that.

And other then that, name one other entry where you attack holy sites? and are able to actually attack NPC's? Even in games where you have the backdrop that you can like as a Pirate or a Viking, you can still get a game over for attacking civilians. it's more that the disrespect on full display for all to see cause like i said: every other game in the series- "we treat them with respect and as accurate as possible." And that collective shows _at best_ a blatant disregard for authenticity and a culture of ignorance at Ubisoft. I may think "diversity consultants" are pure bs -- and I do -- but damn, if you're going to have them at all _this is what they are for_ !!! You've got to do better, Ubisoft. _You've_ got to step up.

I DO have major resentments for what has happened with Assassin's Creed. I forgave Unity, I can ignore Syndicate. At least you're still Assassins in those. I have this theory that we'll never hear the words "Assassin Brotherhood" and "Templars" spoken about the major factions ever again. Just "Hidden Ones" and "Order of Ancients." I hate that Aya stole Bayek's importance. I hate that Layla stole Desmond's importance. I hate THE ENTIRE CONCEPT OF BASIM and how the First Civ (I will not call them "Isu") have been handled ENTIRELY. This series is dead to me and now I only play them out of pure curiosity for how bad they must be.

The DEI Asian dept was likely the cause of all this. I strongly suspect they only consulted with westerners with asian heritage and thought that was sufficient, rather than talking with and consulting experts and historians who are actually Japanese. The woke ideology tells us that all that matters is skin colour. So a westerner, a canadian who was born and grew up in Canada to 3rd generation parents, if woke, fully believes he would understand Japan intuitively due to his ethnicity.

My problem isn't Yasuke. My problem is why are we playing as Yasuke instead of a Japanese man alongside Naoe?! We never played as real life people in this series. We always played as original characters. He should be a NPC and/or ally that helps you. Naoe's father had a son in real life. Ubisoft could made him a playable character too, but they are lazy and just made Naoe where it could have been twins that you can choose you want to play as like Odyssey and Valhalla with the other person being part of the story too.

When you consider how long people have been requesting for an AC game set in Japan and THIS is how they choose to represent it there’s very little doubt that everything in this game was the product of contempt and pure malice towards their player base. Why else would Japan of all AC settings be tinkered with this much and done with this much carelessness and disrespect in a series that typically takes great care to get things right.

The issue is as you put it Ubisoft is “pandering” Japan is very traditional. Women cannot be some things and the UN tries to get involved in stuff like that all the time in an intrusive fashion and foreigners can sometimes be restricted from places. This game feels like a decision to simply choose to willingly ignore Japanese culture as a smack in the face to try to show their ideal of Japan instead of a truth of Japanese history. The breaking of shrines is the cherry on the top where they blatantly allow you to do something that if I remember right might have actually been a death sentence for the time period.

Politcal ideologies aside, I have not agreed with Ubisoft's design philosophy ever since they changed it with Origins. AC as a series just doesn't work as an open world arpg imo. Aside from everything being too far apart, forcing you to traverse on the ground rather than rooftops like in the older titles. You're also constantly forced to deal with the mundane shoehorned rpg systems like loot and gear level, enemy health bars and levels making take down assassinations not one hit kills, and it makes the combat feel like this endlessly grindy friction that doesn't feel truly fun besides the decent finisher animations. It just makes the combat feel dull, only spamming light and heavy attacks with finishers. I think Naoe has more tools and is more agile, but still, it'll feel like playing half of an AC game. Parkour as Naoe seems nice, but also seems too automatic, stripped down of mechanics that the AC games built upon since the first game. I guess what I'm saying is, even if we never got Yasuke in the game, and none of this woke Japan stuff happened to this game, I still wouldn't buy it because I feel AC needs to be the stealth action series it once was like Syndicate and everything before it. Unity launched a buggy mess, leaving Syndicate to suffer the consequences as being this unappreciated game, so Ubi decdied to reboot the series into this bloated ubislop level gated mess...

To be honest I stopped playing after Assassin's Creed II, because Brotherhood's gameplay felt "more of the same" and I lost interest in playing. To be clear, I didn't like the HUD change and after having to climb a tower to burn a flag, I was out. After that I watched gameplay videos and cutscenes edited to be "movies" from Brotherhood up to Syndicate, and really liked how the Ezio trilogy and III ended, save for Desmond's death- not because his death was a tragedy but because the circumstances of "save humanity or lead what's left of it" didn't make sense why it had to be him to sacrifice himself. Of course I saw that years ago, so I barely remember much of the context for the situation. III tied in a little in the history but then felt like Connor just didn't really have much importance to even have had existed; Black Flag tied in a little bit with the figures from the precursor people, but the nameless characterless protagonist of the modern day just made it feel like you were moving around in someone else's story. Rogue seemed like an action movie that tried to be Uncharted in AC's universe, Unity seemed a bit bland and uninspired and had me losing interest, and I lost the remaining interest in continuing in watching Syndicate when Evie could double backstab someone in the kidneys and they'd die instantly without a sound. I'm probably just super nitpicky though here.

I think the biggest issue for me when it comes to Yasuke is that he's a historical main character. Usually historical characters are your allies or even villains (Leonardo, The Borgas, Blackbeard etc). It would be better if Yasuke was an ally or better yet as one of the main villains (The first trailer show's him literally burning a village to the ground). Then later in a DLC you get to play as him, first as a slave, then later as Nobunaga's retainer.

Yasuke is the biggest wasted potential on modern Ubislop for this you're saying. They could perfectly made him an ally of the Assassin's that works for Nobunaga for information, it gives it to the ninja girl, and for the next game they would've done their high fantasy sequel on Africa or something like that

what a lot of people don't realize is Japanese culture is not the same as their own culture especially when it comes to how people view traditions and religion. In fact, many historically or religiously significant sites in Japan, which in that AC Shadows clip they're indeed using the name of a Shrine that exists in the real world, require explicit permission to be given for someone to use them in works films or printed media and it often comes with very specific restrictions with how you are allowed to depict them. Not to mention there's also the difference in terms of context, just because Christian don't make a fuss about churches being burned down by a protagonist whose role is an Viking invader where it made sense for them to take such actions it doesn't mean the Japanese would react the same way to a protagonist who is suppose to be a "legendary samurai" going around destroying objects of worship symbolizing Shinto deities. It's not as if you were allowed to desecrate the mihrab in a mosque or knock down a cross in a church in previous AC titles, why should it be different all of the sudden here when the game's set in Japan? It's really the culmination of the disregards Ubisoft has shown to Japanese culture that's pissing people off, not just any single thing that's being blown out of proportion.

I'm not good at English, so I apologize if there are spelling mistakes or strange expressions. Ultimately, I think they have no respect for the Japanese people. I think they create a game like this that shows no respect because they don't want to say, "Our historical research was wrong. This is all fiction." I was told that this company issued an apology to Japan after the Yasuke scandal became big, and I read both the Japanese and other versions, but the content was just a statement of intent that "We will continue to create games in a 'positive manner' and 'according to our own interpretation,'" and it did not sincerely reflect on their mistakes. All they needed to do was say one word, "I'm sorry," from the heart, not just superficially.

One thing i hated the most around AC discourse, is how many people showed up to defend the game who clearly do not play the series, or understands the series, they just here for ideological reasons, AC is split into 2 parts, simply, the part that is historical as possible, and the small bit of AC twist, they always seem to enjoy bringing Borgia as the pope, but forget, he is still a pope, there is no real massive changes to what he was, and what was changed, was well, templar stuff, aka AC side, "oh but there is aliens", i hate when they call Isu aliens... but again, those are the AC side changed, they are not put into the historical side, or in Rogue, the earthquake that happened in portugal still happens in AC, but in AC is caused by moving a relic, Historical stays as close as possible, and the fictional part is mostly withing the AC lore/bits, they actually coexist without stepping on each other for the most part, the biggest change probly would be james Kidd as a woman, but still is a pirate, and most think he is a man, only the assasssins know whop she really is... Holy! That part when Ezio speaks to Desmond. I had forgotten how good that game was, it was so long ago since I played it. Assassin's creed really had some great story potential had it not? It is arguably the part they screwed up the most in later games. The background story didn't really lead anywhere. It was just a mess. But it could have been sooo good if they worked on some continuity in the background story between games while keeping up the strong writing in AC2. But these companies don't give a fuck about writing anymore. Not in games, not in movies.

As both a fantasy and sci-fi buff, I was floored with how the first AC blended technology with history. I was more of an Altair fan then Ezio, but the stories and history weaved together were brilliant. I even remember historians actually praising the architecture within the games as being very close to accurate. But more modern AC games are mired in love services and the need for an epic 80 hours plus RPG. It just dumbs down the essence of AC which has always been storytelling

It would be so much better if the Assassin’s Creed series returned to its roots-what it was during the days of Revelations and Unity. Those games had a perfect balance of storytelling, gameplay, and historical intrigue. Now, the series feels overly saturated with political and activist sentiments, to the point where it’s almost unbearable. It’s barely recognizable as Assassin’s Creed anymore; instead, it’s just another open-world RPG with the franchise’s name slapped on it. The magic is gone, and it’s become tiresome.

I know I won't be playing this even if it's free. I've had enough of Ubisoft, gave up on Valhalla because it's too damn long for a single-player game that isn't even that good story-wise. The one game and setting that could bring me back to the series was Japan due to its rich culture and actual assassins playing a major role in the history of the country but with the royal fvck up that Ubisoft is pulling here I'm honestly done with their IP as a whole. Looking forward to Monster Hunter Wilds.

I think it's really funny how accurate Ubisoft portrays Baghdad in Mirage but somehow they can't have the same care to details and respect to Japan in Shadows even when Shadows is a much more bigger and important game than Mirage. The problem with Ubisoft is they don't want to fully commit themselves to one side, either this game is historically accurate/have some sense of respect to that culture or just have the game a full fantasy rpg. They always said it's historically accurate in interviews and trailer but doesn't want to commit to it in the game. It's not that hard to disable the ability to attack innocent civilian entirely, Witcher 3 did this to Geralt with "You cannot attack this npc" prompt if you press attack towards civilian because it's in-character to Geralt. Yakuza 6, for example, features a real Senkoji Temple that you can visit and you cannot fight there. There's no npc that insults you there, no npcs that trigger the fight. The only time you fight there is in the main story one time, even then you fight on the outskirts of the temple ground, not inside while vandalizing stuff. That level of attention is sorely missing in AC Shadows, which is weird since Ubisoft removed crossbow from AC 1 due to how it is not accurate to history.

Thank you for driving an important point forward not only related to gaming, but to all hobbies and life in general - to view something as part of a whole. Much of what we have currently as problems in our shared culture, is that many people prefer to stay "neutral", to isolate each movie/game/book and attempt to be an objective critic of it. No art is separate from its artist, no element of a franchise should be viewed on its own when obviously it's part of a series, and no amount of energy thrown into attempts to "be above the culture wars/peasants' opinions" will equal the enjoyment and value received if you trust your senses about what you find interesting and enjoyable. If a person dies on the hill of objectivity when discussing subjective in nature topics and pieces, this same person has been part of the problem, and has taken a side, even though never admitting it.

"Honorable" Samurai had the right to severely punish peasants for any reason they could make up, most often "being disrespectful" which could end in the poor bugger of a peasant literally loosing his/her head. To be honest, the whole thing IS being blown out proportion, down to people criticizing the size and quantity of particular trees/leaves. It's crazy and many other games don't get the same level of scrutiny unless it's for fun. Most other games are kind of allowed to play footlose with accuracy BUT it's because the game studio ADMITS it's not meant to be totally accurate and is self aware! The issue with UBI and why there's more outrage is because they keep virtue signalling about respect of culture and preaching respectful representation in AC games while constantly crapping on said culture, so people will inevitably get outraged by the blatant hypocrisy! They could have avoided all this by not pretending to be so liberal and caring but simply said they aim to portray some culture while taking liberties about accurate representation, like most other games. Heck they could even just not made any comments about represenattion and it would be fine. Most outrage would just be ignored, especially if the game was also really good.

I think cultural sensitivity can be genuinely a tricky one, same with religion. Because often what this equates to is to treat most cultures associated with non-white countries with kid gloves and to buy into romanticised versions of them. Romanticised versions are also often seen with "white" cultures and ancient, dead ones (Rome for example) but this is a bit more optional and we can have a warts and all interpretation if that fits the artistic vision or intended messaging. But what this tends to mean is that what we might regard as negative aspects of cultures are either treated very gently or there is an attempt to detach them from the culture. So if part of that culture or religion (or a valid interpretation of it, universal or not) advocates treating women in ways that do not fit with western concepts of equality, there is mental gymnastics to suggest that the women are empowered by choosing to participate. Or alternatively the cultural aspect of it is brushed under the carpet and its just treated as generic misogyny that is separate from the culture, cos "men bad". Now usually the type of people running Ubisoft seem to fall on this end of the spectrum, where they are hyper sensitive to anything that might be construed as a negative portrayal of a culture. But I think the issue with this game is likely a result of a combination of ignorance, laziness, maybe a touch of hubris and also conflicting priorities. With the last point in particular, the thing is there tends to be an informal pecking order as to which cultures, ethnicities, etc, deserve the most attention and protection (which may vary depending on who is in charge of a project). You can get an idea of this from who they have chosen as the main characters. They have shown willingness to even go to bat against the Japanese themselves because they want that representation. Now I don't know what the ideal is on this because there is evidence that some cultures/countries/religions themselves can be hyper sensitive to perceived criticism and/or what they believe to be non-authentic. So a certain amount of pandering might be necessary if you want to sell them your product.

Its amazing how poorly they handled this game. I can actually see the merit in having Yasuke as a protagonist from a creative standpoint because there is not much history about him other than "he was there" which gives the writers a lot more creative freedom as opposed to a more prominent figure whose entire history and movements would have been documented and thus any deviation from events would have been scrutinised. They could have made it work if they made him an actual assassin that operates from the shadows instead of a samurai. If this had happened 10 years ago I would just think it was some poor decision making from out of touch suits but everything about AC Shadows feel malicious. I unironically want to thank my broke college self for deciding not to buy a PS4/One so I had to drop AC after Black Flag, I'd be so much more upset if I actually still cared about the franchise to the extent I did previously.

the issue people have is not with the fact that you CAN destroy religious sites, it's the fact that by UBISOFT'S OWN STANDARDS, they are doing something really terrible in their game and are FAR from the inclusive internet-good-boy-points morality police they pretend to be behind closed doors and in employee training. It's hypocrisy. The least we can do is hold them to their own standard, even if you don't necessarily care about any perceived offensive things in any particular game.

Alright. So here is my take. Shadows deserved a lot of the critism to have yasuke as a mc in a historical setting in feudal japan is just asinine and so ridiculous that of course people are gonna point it out, plus the numerous and consistent mistakes that Ubisoft made with depicting japan, like even down to the buildings! There is so many its honestly impressive. Add on top that ubisoft is generally hared because of their business model and monetization and yeah people are sick of Ubisoft. Now having said that.. people have definitely went over board with nitpicks and trying to find issues wherever they go, that it gets to the point of parody. Like you "cant destroy the traders?! Must be woke!" Levels of nonsense. Plus there is like thousands of videos dunking on this game that its exhausting at times and its been miked to such a degree that even i try to ignore them and i dont like this game either. Overall i dont like what Ubisoft did and ubisoft as buiness and their decision to have yasuke as the mc felt like a slap to the face, because of its pure absurdity. But i do agree that people have taken their nitpicks to the extreme and trying to find issues in everything which just seems unreasonable eventually.

Great video, and thank you for making. AC: Shadows deserves all the criticism it can bet. I do want to say I agree that some of the criticism has been a little disingenuous though, so please let me point out something (that's not mentioned in your video): others criticizing ACS point to the March 20th [Japan time] release date as coinciding with the March 20, 1995 Tokyo subway sarin attack. However, this has nothing to do with why they chose March 20th, and I know this because I study some aspects of Japanese history--the famous story of the "47 ronin" or sometimes called the "47 samurai" in English, or the Chuushingura in Japanese, culminates with a vengeful attack by Ōishi Kuranosuke Yoshio and his men on Lord Kira; because of this attack they're ordered by the government to off themselves, which occurs on March 20th, 1703. That's why Ubisoft chose this date.

Thank you for another well-spoken, well-thought-out video. I apologize for the incoming mini-essay. XD I get annoyed at people who compare Connor with Ezio, and call Connor milquetoast, bland, boring, a goody-two-shoes, etc. I love Ezio, like many fans do. He is a deep, well-written character. Beyond the surface of a cocky, hotheaded punk, the dude has layers and layers, like a real human being. And this was all possible because the writers got to step up to the plate not just once, not twice, but three times with him. We got to see Ezio go on a journey, and live a full life. By comparison Connor got only one game. Of course he's gonna feel underdeveloped and bland compared to arguably the best protag in the IP's history. I roll my eyes so much when people don't look at the pertinent context. And to go off on a tangent real quick, what is the gameplay you're showing at the end? Is it that "Rise of the Ronin" game? I've heard lots of good things about it, and the PC port is coming soon. Again, I apologize for the long comment. Thank you for all your hard work.

I want to know why there has been no game set in the Crusades showing the European point of view and what the rampaging horde did to 4 of the 6 most holy sites, igniting the rage that led to the Crusades. Can you imagine if we went and took out nearly every holy site in the ME of theirs? The woke would be justifying trrsm even more than they do now! In the intro you could play as members of the horde and have to destroy the sites and take out unarmed holy men, one by one, interspersed with clips of meetings in Europe over what is happening. It could be fn *EPIC* Each site taken out would be led by a particular guy (the one you was playing as) who would be a named character and set up as a significant HVT who you will face off with later in the game. Giving the game four acts before the final boss. All pre release previews could just have you play the intro so the media would love it 😂 The final bit of the intro is rousing music playing as the call for people to join the crusade goes up all round Europe and people step forward, including your customised character from any European nation you wish. You could even be a woman for current year points.

My problem with Ubisoft has always been their decision to pander to the nearest thing that cries even when said thing has no relation to their profession. They treat everything as fragile but choose what can be offensive to people and what shouldn't. It's hypocrisy that annoys me. The only team i havent encountered this problem with is Ubisoft IVT. I get the The Crew is a racing franchise so we needn't treat it the way other titles do, but i feel IVTs only problem is that they're slow on fixing things...that and they're probably underpaid by Ubisoft. For some weird reason, every other subsidiary team is either screwing up, or has been liquidated completely to forget about future screw ups.

Wouldn't the mirror being destroyed in the shrine be reminiscent (or a spiritual placeholder) of the very same mirror used by the Kami to pacify and distract Amaterasu, Shinto Goddess of the Sun/among other terms, after she came out of the cave she was held up in after her brother, Susano-O (Shinto God of Storms/among other terms), destroyed her celestial silk workshop and celestial rice Paddie fields? Japan has 3 Sacred Treasures. These are known as the Imperial Regalia of Japan. 1. Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi/Ame-no-Murakumo-no-Tsurugi or "Grass-Cutting Sword/Heavenly Sword of Gathering Clouds" This is basically the Sword of Japan. It is the blade that Susano-O pulled from the body of Yamata-no-Orochi (The Eight Headed Serpent) after which he handed to Amaterasu to apologize and recognize her authority. Now the dual name thing I believe comes from "Ame" (you know the rest) being the original celestial name. However, when Yamato Takeru (or Prince Ousu) came into possession of it he used it after being tricked by a Warlord into a High-Grass field (see where this is going?) where the Warlord ordered Flame Arrows be rained upon him. Seemingly trapped and doomed to burn away, Takeru began to cut the grass with sword but upon doing so discovered the legendary secret of the blade. It could control the literal wind and its direction upon swing. He then sent the flames upon the Warlord and his men, claiming victory. Unfortunately, he would meet his end against a monster after not bringing the blade with him one day. The sword represents Japan's and its people's Spirit of Valor. 2. Yata no Kagami The legendary mirror that was held up just outside Amaterasu's cave in order to distract so the other Kami could prevent her to retreat to her cave. You see since Amaterasu was in her cave all 8 million Gods in Japan were camped outside as this was the best place to be since Japan was locked in perpetual state of Near Everlasting Darkness. The mirror is representative of the Spirit of Wisdom in Japan. 3. Yasakani no Magatama This is probably the most important as far ceremonies are concerned as apparently, it's the only artifact used as the sword and mirror only use spiritual replicas as they're delicate and brittle. This magatama is used in the coronation of Japan's Emperor (think of it as England's Crown Jewels) it said to be the same Magatama that used along with the mirror to pull Amaterasu out of her cave. The Magatama (this one in particular) is symbolic of Japan's Benevolence. Valor. Wisdom. Benevolence. Obviously, these 3 artifacts are more important and sacred than what I can just dig up via a quick Google Search and Wikipedia look-through as I'm just some American Otaku/Weeb from Missouri and not a Shinto Priest/Priestess/Practitioner. My apologies, vehemently, if I messed up any information and have only caused more irritation upon Japanese citizens or even fellow fans of Japan and its unique and wonderful culture. To put it bluntly, showing any disrespect, destruction, demeaning, etc. of these artifacts in shrines as they mostly have them there in a spiritual sense, but is still in very bad taste and can be seen as horribly offensive. This is akin to an Eastern Dev Studio making a game set in "Historic" America/European setting taking a Christian cross (which depending upon denomination, were kind of the Baskin Robbins 31+ Flavors of Religions, I mean this in a light-hearted joke sense, nothing critical) is made to represent the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and making it destructible or disrespected. It'd be like making a "Historic" game of Brittons unification with King Arthur and when you (Arthur) go to pull Excalibur from the stone, you fall in the mud, get told by a Royal guard to "bloody bugger off", all to the tune of "Yakety Sax" as your being chased by hounds. 1. Excalibur is Sword of Lady in the Lake, not the Sword in the Stone. That's Caliburn. 2. "Bloody" is seen as kind of gutter mouth talk. Not really fitting a Royal Guard. 3. Yakety Sax is that comedic saxophone tune you hear in Britain's The Benny Hill Show. While comedically classic. In what is SUPPOSED to be a "serious" and "historic" telling of Britton's history. It feels a little...taking a piss, wouldn't you say? As is getting some very basic info wrong if you do quick research. Anyway, if you somehow made it this far. Here is MY OFFICIAL Assassin's Creed Shadows HEADCANON and TRUE recalling of Yasuke (Feel free to STEAL and post in WIKIPEDIA as I think that'd be funny) Brought to you by KZbin Newz TM. Oh!Mason Japanese HipHop Expert PhD, Prized Publisher (Yasuke: Fake It till Make It) and (Conning AAA Game Pubs. 101) (Expert is not an "accredited" Japanese Hip Hop Expert PhD, as a Tokyo University "Representative" clarified, "All of his cards declined, and we don't offer any course like that here at all." Clearly Bigots.) "Well...I heard Yasuke in his time was as a teen in Africa he was a Tupac/Andre 3000 fan but, as he grew and matured in Japan he began getting into "Teriyaki Boyz" and "Soul'd Out". This changed Yasuke, he abandoned the way of the warrior, after the defeat of Lord Nobunaga (who loved hearing his sick verses while helping him lay it down with a Sick Beatbox Sesh) and in seclusion began crafting the sickest HipHop beats and tracks known to any man. However, the celestial council of Kami in Japan began to take notice of his Passion and Soul and therefore allowed him to Asscend not as God of War, but as Japan's God of Beat. Now whenever, a young brutha got it down horrendous in Yokohama, and is losing the will to grind and stack paper because he is plagued with "Getsuga-no-Geishas" or "NoWaya-Imma-Getta-Hoesa"....he just needs to ignite his Soul and Beatbox, crack open a bottle of Sake, Sochu, or even *gulp* American Beer if you have to and let your Soul shine!!! Until Japanese officers or Otokonokos come and take you away into the night. It's what Yasuke would've wanted." In all serious, it's a shame so much of Yasuke's history is horribly obscured. I don't view this (Assassin's Creed Shadow) as Yasuke. The Yasuke we should know about is sadly lost to reeds of time in so much Japan's history of War and Battle. It doesn't mean he doesn't deserve to be talked about or be not allowed to have a role in smaller ways, but until more information, and I'm sure there is somewhere, he really should just be introduced. Honestly, if he was just introduced as like a Bodyguard and we got to simply hang out and maybe do a few small hunting missions with the guy and get to learn maybe a little of his tribe and how he views life in Japan and being under the rule of Nobunaga. I don't know. I feel like that would've been more, more interesting. Hopefully, more info can be found about him as the idea of playing a possible Afrikan tribal hunter turned Disciplined, Honor-bound warrior isn't a bad idea. Oh, and for anyone saying, "You need to wait till the game comes out!!!" Brothers/Sisters/Fathers/Mothers open your eyes, the dream of an Assassin's Creed game in Japan is not here. It's been lost to us for so many Years like Tears in the Cold, Kentucky Rain. We have had to suffer with Unity and its INSECT INFESTATION, Syndicate going Brittania, then Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla being the same game with tacked on Far Cry wanna be "RPG" combat which, ahem, doesn't make the game fun just more tedious than the original games pre-Unity, and Mirage...it lived up to its name at least. Of course, if you enjoy them that's fine, but I just want ONE Stealthy Ninja Game. So, it's either Ninja Gaiden, Metal Gear Rising Reveagance, Red Ninja: End of Honor, or its spiritual successor Senran Kagura. @mariamstaton2443 Indeed so, perhaps. I still think to know the full extent of offenses we will have to wait till release. Whether it's just harmless jesting or legitimate insensitivity. Also, it is disrespectful to say this game is supposed to be Historical based on Real Life Information and then get countless things wrong. Ubisoft has said prior in several marketing this is a game supposed to be Historical with its depiction of Yasuke. Lastly, Japan is mostly a Christian nation. Shinto is seen as something akin to a Spiritual Background Tradition that is still upheld by many practitioners of the faith. I explained prior what those 3 Regalia represent to the Shinto Faith, AND the majority of Japanese people. If Yasuke, is allowed to destroy shrines and temples how does that exactly look to a Japanese person who sees him tearing down the very symbols of not just the spirit of the faith but Japan itself? Mind you, a lot of that Japanimation is most likely based off a Manga written by some one person who ended up having it blow up. They probably didn't even think it'd be successful enough for it to be published for Tankobon distribution, let alone to come over to America. Most Americans are cool with it, unless you're like an Old Testament type. I don't remember a single manga or anime that said, in particular, "Jesus Christ was actually an evil, corrupt mastermind." I've only seen him in being portrayed as a Spiritual guide to even being college roommates and buddies with The Buddha. I'll concede there is probably, some obscure series or single issue that does it, but clearly by now if it came out Japans market voted and hated it. I'm not buying this game, simply on the principle of not buying another Ubisoft game after Far Cry VI. Mistakes were made, that day. Ubisoft is just not the same anymore to me and I believe many others. If you wish to play and enjoy it, don't let me be the one to ruin it for you. Mind you I'm just picking on only Ubisoft, cause they are terrible at the ONE job they've got. Making good games.

In the minority here, but I think the problem with this series (Shadows debacle notwithstanding) is that it went for far too long. they should have just ended it earlier. Where are we now in the Templar/Assassin conflict now since Desmond died? Yep nowhere.

Ubisoft was never going to let the series end. They were going to milk it dry.

I have a feeling that Ubisoft are scrambling to "fix things" because it has become clearer that the game they intended to release wasn't going to be well received. It's like a "sorry we got caught" moment. We could have got a very different, preachy game. It would have been hilarious 🤷‍♂️

Yasuke is their samurai, so... Harming civilians may be some kind of representational meaning. He doesn't belong to Japan. Or maybe this is from the original setup.

If you were a Viking, you probably didn't respect a monotheistic religion with far different virtues and ideas and the priest would not stop wailing about how evil and sinful you are for putting tats on your body, mixing fabrics, taking their holy relics (because it's metals and you kind of need some right now) that last part might be theft but it was the Viking age, a lot of people were raiding and sometimes monasteries did not have guards. Yasuke if he was a samurai should definitely not be sacking temples of his own religion, stealing from those temples It doesn't make sense.

If you want to base your protagonist on a obscure history trivia, and didn't bother to do the research to know that watermelon and cherry blossom aren't supposed to be in the same season, maybe you better now market your game with the word "authentic"...

What is and is not in the game will be revealed upon its release. Everything else is hearsay until otherwise proven. This does not however excuse all the poor marketing choices Ubisoft has made up to this point however.

The newer "Assassin's Creed" would've worled much better if it wasn't called "Assassin's Creed". At this point, that name is more of a restraint more than anything else. With every new "Assassin's Creed" game they makes, they are forced to carry the history of all of the previous games.

Much like Snow White and so many other franchises being run into the ground, I'm shocked by this game. Why make it Feudal Japan if you're not going to be accurate? Just make some crazy fantasy world and do anything they want. You're selling history, and delivering something that comes off as disrespectful - Even to the West.

It’s all of their moral preening BS with the splash screen that says how virtuous they are that makes them a legit target when you see all the ridiculous racist crap they threw into AC Shadows. If they just acted like normal humans making a game and didn’t have the preachy crap people would care much less.
