The sad part is theyre right ro be boastful about that second point, and its NOT just games. You basically dont, or WONT, own pretty much ANYTHING you "buy" that isnt a straight-retail transaction. Downpayment plans? Morgages? Pay from Grants? NOTHING about that means you OWN what you have, and it largely applus to a LOT of major things you need, like a house, a car, insurance of ALL kinds, hell your IDs are technically State-owned property too, ya dont own THOSE cards. It was/is inevitable games will follow suite: Even physical discs will be at peices that REQUIRE downpayments, and given how COMPLETLY dependant we are to gaming to stave off bad days or outright boredom, people simply WILL just accept that.

I don’t know about others, but it’s bitter sweet. We have lost amazing stories and games thanks to them. I can’t even play the Ezio games anymore because it makes me sick to see the Ubisoft logo every time I boot up a game. Prince of Persia and 3D Rayman were lost to me years ago (no, I’m not playing those with a keyboard). And I’m only enjoying Ubisoft’s downfall, because I’m getting a lot of great games this year (more than I can buy actually). I finally bought Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart, we got Astro Bot, in October we’re getting both Darksiders 2 updated and Sonic X Shadow Generations and in December we’re getting the 3rd Sonic Movie AND Soul Reaver 1&2 Remake (which is technically two games). Oh and Darksiders 4 was teased. And me, personally, I also found an interest for Captain Toad Treasure Tracker and Luigi’s Mansion, which I can’t wait to get into playing those games. If I didn’t have all this going for me, I might not have been so happy about a game company dying out. But all these options are affording me the luxury of being petty.

They are starting to take the hint, problem is the dev cycle of a game is so long, that there is a ton of crap still coming down the pipe and it will take some time for it to clear out. Games starting their dev cycle recently are going to be a lot more mindful of hiring a consultant company or putting a political agenda into their games now. Companies are starting to distance themselves from such firms already.

If they would choose to play it safe and create a Japanese character memorable and iconic as Ezio Auditore for Assassins Creed Shadows, the game community would forgive many of their missteps. The community wanted a Assassins Creed in Japan with a Japanese Assassin so badly. However, Ubisoft choose the DEI path and will have to face financial consequences for that, in times were they also face major existential uncertainties. Considering all the information available it should be clear that if this game fails the only reason will not be the historical inaccuracies (because feeling authentic would be enough for most), or lack of interest in the setting itself (because the community begged for it), but the fact that gamers are fed up with the modern ideological indoctrination.

Im bummed about the delay. I was looking forward to them embarrassing themselves. I think the delay is for two reasons. One, they want to iron it out as much as possible.
