Ubud Market. It's pretty awesome and at the very least, a nice wander. With this one I wanted to try and capture the sights and sounds without too much blah, blah, blah from me. We start at the Top of the Market and look at every stall plus a couple of shops and home stays and then I work my way back with a different lens capturing the faces of locals and tourists as we enjoy a nice little tune which is 'Live My Dream' by Velveteen feat. Fantastic video as usual Waz.. thanks mate. Hope you are well.. Just about to head to Ubud for a2 week stay after 5 days here in Canggu... If you haven't done one of your trademark informative vids on the transport situation over here (no gojeks or bluebirds in certain towns etc) for people who aren't keen on chancing their luck on bikes I'd love to see that some day.. We're just now trying to work out how to get to Ubud.. we were told we'd have to go to old man's just after sunset and during the 3rd vaguely Reggae inspired version of hotel California wink twice at the bassist and slip them 10k so he could introduce us to his sister who knows a guy with a van that may be able help get us to the outskirts of Ubud in time for nyepi day.

Are you going to do any videos on scuba diving, snorkeling around bali? Also interested in hotsprngs and natural beauty ie waterfalls. Some hints on paying for parking at these places (like at the monkey forest) It's great to get someone's view who isnt in their early 20's and showing off their sixpack. I was beginning to think no real people visited Bali. I head there for my first time in September. I get the feeling I may have missed the boat with Bali. Anyway thanks for your videos and as I mentioned in my other comment. Need a bit more commitment off you. If your doing a video on tattoos you need to get one lol Keep up the great work Geoffrey Also do you plan on doing some more of the remote parts of Bali or do they not exist either
@BaliInsiderGuide5 жыл бұрын
Yes sadly you have pretty much missed the boat. Snorkelling in Bali has always been crap. There are a couple of Hot springs that are actually swimming pools. Try Lovina or around Kintamani particularly Yoya Devasya. Would never get a tattoo in Bali, they have no depth, shading or good lines. Remote is very possible but then you would need to be comfortable staying in basic digs or returning to your Hotel, Losmen, Home Stay etc. Try The far South west from Medewi and beyond or the Far North East, nice up there. Enjoy!

Will be off to Ubud on Monday and then there for 2 weeks. The Market has been on my "must wander through" list ever since I planned this trip. Your vlog has shown me a couple of must see stalls. Suggestions on which stall might be best for a mans sarong? I have a couple I wear back at home in the states that I got in India (kurtas actually, but sama sama in many ways) but definitely would like to add a couple from here. After my walk around Seminyak and Kurta this morning, I am spending the afternoon laying about in the setting sun watching your great vlogs. So much info and entertaining. Appreciate your sense of humor and ease with the locals. Thanks!
@BaliInsiderGuide5 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Tatmoof. Don't buy your Sarongs in the market. There are places where the locals buy theirs, the King of Ubud's Main Palace had one of the Homestay staff take me to one. The name of the place? well, I don't think it even has one? BUT... let me just try and pinpoint it on Google maps: Jalan Cok Gede Rai: www.google.com/maps/place/Ubud,+Gianyar,+Bali,+Indonesia/@-8.5133001,115.2644086,16z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x2dd23d739f22c9c3:0x54a38afd6b773d1c!8m2!3d-8.5068536!4d115.2624778 Between Cameng Art gallery and Peliatan Palace. Local price is expensive. IDR700,000 + for a one off batik hand painted cloth. Cheaper for copy prints. Alternatively head to Murnis Warung for authentic tourist priced sarongs including second hand: www.google.com/maps/place/Ubud,+Gianyar,+Bali,+Indonesia/@-8.504525,115.2537013,17z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x2dd23d739f22c9c3:0x54a38afd6b773d1c!8m2!3d-8.5068536!4d115.2624778

Are the markets in Ubud cheaper or dearer than those in the Legian/Kuta area?

The vid captures the look and feel beautifully! Love the interaction with the locals. I love exploring markets, in China they like the idea of having stores all sell the same as it attracts more people and they share the business. I don’t understand why people are obsessed with the price of buying stuff, it’s all in good fun, bartering is the experience, don’t take it too seriously, pay what you think is fair and move on, otherwise, why go?

Hey Waz, fantastic video series mate. We are heading to Bali next week for our first time and these videos are helping out a lot. What's your facebook page and can you recommend a few places a couple of 50 years old would enjoy. We are staying in Nusa Dua and I have a drive organised for one of the days. One more question mate I am a pro photographer, should I just take my smaller fuji instead of my more expensive Sony set up? Thanks again.
@BaliInsiderGuide5 жыл бұрын
I just closed my Facebook page. Bali is a myriad of nooks and crannies and so what to do @ 50? Depends on what interests you, food, temples, jungles, rice fields, bars, views. Probably go for dinner in Jimbaran on the sand for fresh seafood of the incoming boats. That would be my pick. Camera wise? Again, depends on what you want to capture and why you are asking the question. Do you mean should I lump around heaps of camera gear or are you asking is it safe to? I would take the gear that really turns you on, after al, it's your first trip to one of the most photographable places on Earth. Take your most luscious lenses and plenty of hard drive space. You're a pro so you would know, something nice and wide + 80-100mm equivalent (dependant on full frame or cropped sensor) + a nice telephoto for places like Tanah Lot, surfing and Volcanoes. Enjoy!
