As a few people have pointed out, you can use Conda or PyENV to create a virtual environment for Python 3.10. I normally use venv for virtual environments but the python3.10-venv package isn't available for 24.04, and I completely overlooked Conda and PyENV 😆 Here are the instructions to install and setup PyENV: medium.com/@aashari/easy-to-follow-guide-of-how-to-install-pyenv-on-ubuntu-a3730af8d7f0 Also if you have a black screen when booting Kubuntu 24.04, follow the instructions here in the comments to fix it: www.reddit.com/r/Kubuntu/comments/1cdko49/comment/l1ht1l9/?

What was the version of nvidia drivers that was installed during this video? I installed pop os and I only see version 550.
@PhazerTech5 ай бұрын
It was version 535, so yours is newer. Pop OS has extremely good support with Nvidia and they kinda do their own thing with their repos compared to the other Ubuntu distros. It's a great choice for Nvidia users. It seems like you've been trying different distros over the last several months?

@@PhazerTech Ok cool. So I have a question on a few video you made during the time you made this one. One was about installing steam and then the monitoring software. I was building a house so only got to installing linux now. You did your installation on kubunthu and I installed popos. So will all the steps be the same? Also, how important is weyland? Been hearing allot of it and I got it to work today.

@@NetNeelsie That's awesome you were building a house, very impressive! Have you built many houses? And yes the steps will more or less be the same. You can use the Pop shop to install Steam, and the rest will be the same including Mangohud. Wayland isn't necessary for a good gaming experience, but if you want better scaling, proper VRR, HDR, etc then it's a must. It still might be a little buggy with Nvidia, but Pop OS is currently working on a new Cosmic desktop which will run Wayland by default.

@@PhazerTech Thank you. This was the first house built.

A quick heads up for those who like to stick LTS: you can't update to 24.04 LTS from 22.04 yet, as of the time of writing this. It's only the dev release so far. IIRC, it's about 3 months or so for LTS? Also, I've already found a number of incompatibilities across various apps, so I think I'll wait a bit longer.

Yes that's true, I mentioned in the video that people should hold off upgrading until the official upgrade is ready. I believe it will be in June.

@@PhazerTech That should fit my roadmap (yes, I'm such a nerd that I have a friggin roadmap on how and when I upgrade/update my home systems)

Ahh, was hoping someone would make a video about exactly this!

Really glad to hear that, I was hoping that was the case!

I've just taken to sticking ROCm inside a distrobox, it's so convenient I'm going to keep doing that even once ROCm supports 24.04.

Nice! That's a great idea, you never have to worry about an update breaking something.

Use conda and indicate the python version,this may be useful
@PhazerTech8 ай бұрын
Thanks, Conda works. I usually don't use Conda for virtual environments and instead just use the venv package. But in this case, the python3.10-venv package isn't available for 24.04.
