Fixed it. run the command: wsl --update (in Windows terminal)

At first I was just trying to open GUI apps in linux now I have another problem I can't connect to internet via WSL thanks to you. My resolv.conf file is pointing to another path which doesn't exist and unwritable. I tried to remove resolv.conf and edit it again it still doesn't work. I don't understand why you didn't show solution at 5:35 and skipped it.

The reason you had issues was the mis-spelling of "/etc/wsl.conf" you typed an "i" in there "coint" originally, so you created a different file. Thanks for the tutorial!

you need to confirm that in the wsl.conf, you have the [boot] systemd=true. Then restart the wsl service

nice video quick side note: if you have problems with showing it on your display you need to set guiApplications=true in your wsl.conf file

men atleast show how u managed to resolve the problem when u "wsl --shutdown" and the resolv.conf changed. Because i'm unable to edit it the error is "cat: resolv.conf: No such file or directory" but it exists.

This video is a godsend. I chose 22.04 and it already had systemd enabled in /etc/conf. I ignored the octave section and installed firefox which ran without issue.

Does this require WSL v2? Or can this still work through WSL v1? I'm limited to wsl1 I do not have SLAT support which is required for WLS2.

If you're getting the error Error: Can't open display: while trying to run GUI applications in WSL2, here's a quick fix: Open your WSL terminal and edit the wsl.conf file: sudo nano /etc/wsl.conf Add the following lines: " [interop] guiApplications=true " Restart WSL for the changes to take effect: wsl --shutdown wsl This enables GUI support in WSL2 and should resolve the display issue! Make sure you're running an updated version of WSL2. 😊

Hey, could you please write down the instructions and put them in the video description? There's no chance in hell I can even catch all this by hitting the space bar for every 3 words you say or whatever. I'm brand new to this and just want to try it out. About half way through the video, you started throwing all kinds of new concepts and a lot of jargon around. I know you're used to it, but I'm definitely not. I suspect I'm not the only newb who ever stops by this video either. Questions: Why would I want to change my DNS address, which I didn't even know I had? Also, isn't DNS = Domain Name Server? Is that what this thing is running on, kinda like a cross between WAMP and LAMP or something? Is "etc" different than etcetera in this context? How do I access the etc/wsl.config file to edit it, and can that be done in the Windows 10 GUI environment instead? Notes to Self: L + Ctrl + S = Save whatever's currently open in the command line. Ctrl+ X = Close whatever's currently open in the command line. Do these in this order to end whatever was being worked on in the command line. That was sudo nano etc/resolve.config, then Enter. That was sudo nano etc/wsl.config, then Enter.

theres a feature called pause, and slowdown speed. second, yes dns is domain name server if the dns nameserver is wrong the ubuntu cannot access the host to download/upgrade packages from their official repository. but you rarely had to change the dns in wsl. and /etc is a directory and yes it came from english word etcetera in linux the /etc directory contains system configuration information. oh yea i think you had a typo there /etc/resolv.conf /etc/wsl.conf

If you have WSL2, you should have WSLg. WSLg allows you to run the GUI and it'll add the image link into your apps... click on the app and Ubuntu desktop will open in a window

It's not special, it installs automatically when you install WSL or a distribution (i.e. ubuntu or debian) You can use the -d flag to choose a distribution name (wsl --install -d Debian) or (wsl --help) to read the documentation
