Super Mario Bros. 3 is one of the greatest video games ever made, pushing 8-bit gameplay to levels that most people thought were impossible. Created by some of the best designers of the 1980's, and utilizing advanced new computer chips that could enhance the NES hardware, Super Mario Brothers 3 is an experience that is just as fun to play today as it was over 30 years ago!
The original Super Mario Brothers was such a massive success that it defined an entire generation of gaming. The Mario Brothers were the most iconic video game characters since Pac Man, and fans were hungry for a new game. Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka didn't want to just make a paint by numbers sequel - they wanted to create a game that retained the spirit of the original, but took Mario in new and exciting directions.

@@UCanBeatVideoGames Being a fan of speedrun videos, I was familiar with the 7-1 fun, though I'm sure a ton of people aren't! Regardless, and I say this as someone that won a video game competition using Super Mario 3, you display an absolutely jaw dropping amount of tricks and secrets I didn't know about. Be honest, how many tries did it take you to get the 7-1 clip through the wall? I've watched so many speedruns die there. Floored also by some of the game genie stuff at the very beginning. I had a game genie! Why didn't I know about these codes?! While/if I have your attention, I wanna give you a big congrats on 100 and thank you for what you do. I need something engaging to listen to to fall asleep and keep my mind off things, and the vast majority of the time it's your content I rely on.

This game was a monster in terms of the shear size and scope of game play. I recall playing it as a kid but couldn't get far without the help of NP magazine. I think the game is far too difficult for kids. I also remember being able to defeat Bowser with all the different suits just to see if there would be any differences in the ending. But defeating him with the Hammer Brothers suit by tossing a few hammers was so satisfying because the suit was so rare and completing the final stage to get to bowser was quite difficult in itself. One bit of fun that I had with bowser was that if you turn into a statue with the Tanooki suit, you can bounce on Bower's back. When Bowser jumps he will launch you high into the air. That was just a trick that didn't help you in any way but was just fun to do. Thanks for video and the memories. 🙂

DUDE!!! You forgot to mention one of the COOLEST TRICKS IN THE GAME!!! Okay, so in any level where you can pick up a free Tanuki Suit, you'll want to enter the level with a P-Wing. If you collect the Tanuki Suit while you have a P-Wing equipped, you'll retain your full Power Meter throughout the rest of the stage - effectively giving you P-TANUKI! Of course, you'll have to avoid taking any hits for the remainder of the stage, and the P-Wing effect will wear off once that stage is completed. Anyhow, congrats on 100 episodes. And thanks for allowing me to revisit one of my all-time favorite games. Looking forward to 100 more. 👍

29:47 Amazing. As a kid I always had a strong intuition of where the matches were, but never really thought much of it until seeing this. After staring at this for a bit (in the toilet, admittedly); each board having three rows starting with items #1, #7 & #13 respectively: if you always start by uncovering #5 followed by #3 and finally #7 you win every time too but you clear the board flawlessly 87.5% of the time for maximum dopamine, the remainder12.5% with a single miss :) My 2c for a great video, thanks!

As a simple child of 8 years, SMB3 was one of the best games I ever received. It's good to see you referencing back to the original Nintendo Power guide on it, and I enjoyed this trip down memory lane. All this said, having been a connoisseur of SMB3 since its inception, I wished to add some things to your video that I'm not seeing in the comments: @00:47:45 - There is a hidden 1-UP above the 6th block from the left on the top row. I actually thought you were going to grab it, given the blocks you broke in this playthrough - but you faked me out! @01:14:00 - I find standing on the two blocks directly under the pipe works better for this. Most of the Spiny Eggs will ricochet off of the pipe, and though the pattern does briefly cause them to be thrown at you, the process goes much faster than the position you took.

With this game I always had the feeling that it was ahead of its time. The huge content, great atmosphere and very good gameplay makes it to one of the best 8bit titles ever!

It was way ahead of it's time. The graphics, gameplay, secrets, and powerups were so advanced, it looks like it could have came out on the SNES or Sega Genesis. SMB3 is my favorite video game of all time. It's innovations pushed video games to another level and was beyond any game released on the NES at that time.

Super Mario Bros. 3 is my favorite Mario game. Super Mario World may have better designed levels and Yoshi, but I love the power ups from 3 more. Being able to fly for the first time with the Racoon Leaf, the Frog Suit, being able to ride in a Goomba Shoe, the Tanooki Suit and turning into a statue, and being able to throw hammers in the Hammer Brothers Suite are all amazing and why SMB3 is my favorite Mario game.

It’s the video version that I would have watched endlessly as a kid if I had available but because of age we had to resort to just using the Nintendo Player’s Guide. This is definitely a nice companion piece to that amazing magazine walkthrough.

Maybe my favorite game of all time. It is hard to articulate to younger folks how exciting it was to watch the Wizard (basically a big advert) and get the Nintendo Power with SMB3 I'm the mail box. This was THE only game I begged and begged my parents for Christmas. The only game I had as a kid. No surprise this is #1. The pinnacle of the NES. When I discovered SMB3 hacks as an adult, it’s indescribable. Thank you!

I’ve just gotten back into this game via my daughter’s Nintendo Switch. Both the NES and SNES versions are available, I’m partial to the NES version. I’ve loved SMB3 since I was 10 and at 42 I still love it. The greatest platform era of all time IMO. Thank you for this video and for your channel.
