Great stuff, thanks for posting. BYU fan here. Can't wait. I''d take this version of the big 12 over the current pac 12 all day every day. It's a much better fit ideologically and it also happens to be a better conference in most sports. The 4 new schools will all see tremendous growth in coming years. Texas and OU can suck it. They are about to become the little fish in that pond.

Don't get me wrong, having 'blue bloods' is a great thing for home games but i agree that this will be a conference that has it all. Competitive Basketball, Parity in Football, and a few destination sites (At least UCF and BYU fall under this umbrella ;) )
@crossmlk13 жыл бұрын
I think your statement; "It's a much better fit ideologically" hits the nail on the head. The one thing that the espn dominance of college football has done is drive wedges in longtime relationships, i.e. college conferences which are themselves cultural institutions. I can only wonder when the SEC will realize that the ones driving the bus are laughing at them. But then again maybe the SEC is laughing at them all the way to the bank. But the cost to those longtime relationships hurts the cultural identity of that part of the county not bowing down to the coasts.

I agree. The Pac-12 is also in a very precarious position because they are extremely dependent on USC staying.

@dryflyelk I love your enthusiasm... But the new big12 is really the weakest of the 5 P5s. Glorified MWC or wac. Nebraska and Colorado. Then Texas Am and Missouri. Texas and Oklahoma. BYU may be the biggest there is there now. Weak. But beneficial to be in a conference

Yeah, as a Baylor alum, I understand the feeling of OUT/ESPN/SEC raining on our parade. Things are going great, and these assholes drop a bomb on it all because in over 20 years they could never be bothered with strengthening the Big 12. As horrible as this is, I think ultimately, it will be better for all league members to be out from under the thumb of those two schools especially UT who hampered so many efforts that would have stabilized the league. And, I don't believe for a second, they will be satisfied in the SEC and rest assured, they will bring their ego and their bullshit to that league as well and will not care who they piss off. Because they know they will always have another option. They are quite literally conference killers.

This ain’t over till it is over…..don’t cast negatives on others that if you were in their position you would jump at ! Memphis appears positioned to make good move in the near future…if 16 is right conference number….the B12 is still your best choice going forward where you would be appreciated. AAC has done a great job…..and can be proud of exceeding expectations and being competitive with less money and exposure. Be patient….took Houston 25 years to get back to their home…competing against neighbors and rivalries and being closer so Alums could travel. The game is afoot… be ready!

The way I see it here is this will only be a temporary conference thing. UFC and Houston will spring of to the ACC or SEC 8-10 years if they find success which I know they’ll find. It’s really hard to fill the seats in the PAC-12 when you got so many pro sports all over your turf. You either waste your money on Oregon state tickets or you can go to blazer games. CAL game vs 49er game 🤔.

BOOM, that is the key. One thing that will make or break this is what happens in a couple of years with two schools, Okla State and TCU. OSU is number 19 in the country with 1.65 million TV eyeballs and TCU is number 24 with 1.49 million TV eyeballs, they would be number 1 and 2 in the new Big XII minus OU and Texas. I don’t really think either administration in either school is real enthused with Bowlsby as Commissioner and would seriously look at moving to the PAC 12 if he remains as Commish so I am not sure how long he stays in that position. Oliver Luck, who they brought in as a Consultant, may be in line to be the next Big XII Commish.
@grondhero3 жыл бұрын
I don't think there's any desire from TCU to move to the Pac-12; the only plus would be that we've consistently beaten them, whether bowl games or regular season games. Now, _after_ the Big 12 has expanded, I could see Bowlsby leaving one way or another. As for ESPN, it's quite possible that after the current contract is over in four years, the Big 12 makes a deal with FOX or CBS or someone else. If they make one with ESPN, I think it'd be much more stricter on ESPN and probably a shorter term contract that (hopefully) leaves to restructuring to expand to 16.
