Legendary UCLA gymnastics coach Valorie Kondos Field (B.A. ’87) brought a packed audience to its feet as she danced her way to the stage at the 2019 UCLA Anderson Velocity Women’s Leadership Summit. She told the audience of Anderson MBA students and alumni about developing confidence in her own leadership, throughout her adolescence as a classical ballet dancer, her career as a coach, her battle with breast cancer and her long friendship with UCLA Basketball Coach John Wooden, the mentor who inspired her book, Life Is Short, Don’t Wait to Dance.

Thank you Ms Val, just the right message I needed to hear today. I have high anxiety and try to be like people I admire. Your message about authenticity, about the real meaning of success, about life being a choice. I am on my last year in lawschool but still get anxiety attacks before exams. But seeinh this video - hearing you say be anxious for nothing, be grateful for everything... I say to my self, I get to take exams, I get to go to Uni. I hope one day I get to to also encourage young women like you. God bless you. 💗 from Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺

Much like you, I adopted the same state of living after a life-changing adverse event. It not only got me through that adversity, but it also served me in the death of my son, and now as I care for my mother who suffers from dementia. I found myself supporting 100's who hit a brick wall, fell to there knees and needed support in getting back up. I never would have imagined that because every one of those moments that hurt the most, I would become the most I can be in every moment.
