metaplasia of the lower esophagus that is characterized by replacement of squamous epithelium with columnar epithelium, occurs especially as a result of chronic gastroesophageal reflux, and is associated with an increased risk for esophageal carcinoma. As many as 12% of the estimated 15 million GERD sufferers will develop Barrett's esophagus, and from 5% to 10% of those will go on to develop cancer..! Just a FYI #medical #information #details #fyi #doctordetails

I have Barrett's esophagus without dysplasia. The doc says it's a small spot and it may go away. Has anyone ever heard of Barrett's going away?

I also had a small spot. The doc removed it and said it probably will not come back. I have another endoscopy scheduled in 3 years. Now I am waiting to see if it returns.
