Hi Doctor , my husband Nestor is doing great, he got back all the weight he lost ( 30 lb. ) plus some more, eating is enjoyable we are so happy thank you..thank you , yesterday my husband had the pleasure of meeting a person who is been dealing with the same condition, Mathew tall guy and only 113 lbs. when at one point in his life was 250 lbs. probably 10 years ago, we love ❤️ you, please be careful with your motorcycle, Marie.

I started having problems around the age of 8. I'm 42 and was diagnosed about a year and a half ago. However they want me to do the esophageal manomatry test again before they decide if in fact I do/still have it, as my pressure's were extremely high and want to be sure as I am high risk for the POEM surgery. The best lesson I've learned in my journey is to be your own advocate. Hope this helps. If you'd like to know anything else, please ask. =)

Thank you for posting this video. I had the scope and was diagnosed with a small hiatal hernia and schatzki's rings, no sign of cancer. I had a mobility study done that found a very weak lower esophageal sphincter causing reflex or spasms.. I have acid reflex disease and often reflex when I'm empty as well as when I eat. Had the condition most of my life, at least 30 years, it's gotten worse in the last 10 years, my current age is 55 years. Currently taking, Apple Cider Vinegar w/mother and blockers when absolutely necessary for symptoms of GERD. Not obese and never had a weight problem, I'm tall and thin. Do you think I'm a candidate for POEM?

Excellent video with thorough explanation of the Heller versus POEM procedures. Question: I am in Atlanta and my GI doctor hasn't mentioned POEM as an option. Are you aware of a list of surgeons that perform Heller proceedures and most importantly, a list of gastroenterologists that do POEM? Any information you can provide specific to the Metro Atlanta area would be most helpful and appreciated. I have recently been diagnosed with achalasia and am contemplating my options. Thank you.

Hi Dr Sedarat, great video, I had Heller op 5 years ago, is it right that the heartburn I regularly experience can’t be acid from stomach as the LES won’t work in reverse to let acid up, never mind working normally?

Great video 👍 my daughter has type 2. She lost ability to eat and drink and has had laparoscopic Heller myotomy and 180 wrap. It was very successful but still has chest pains, back and cramping in esophagus. These keep her up at night. Would love some feedback if you have any? 😊😊 kind regards Tammy

My son has to have this procedure done. Can someone tell me if (AS WE SEE THE IN THE VIDEO ) if the surgeon sees what we saw during the surgery. I'm asking because I was told the POEM procedure doesn't allow the Dr, to see what he or she is doing. Can someone tell me if the Dr has the ability to see what we saw in the video? thanks

Thanks for the information in the video. I was supposed to have POEM on August 11th. The insurance denied the pre-authorization. Can you share the story or the process once the insurance denied POEM for a patient at UCLA? Currently, I am waiting for the doctor to take the next steps although I am not too clear what those are.

Unfortunate that your insurance denied something that would help you. I've been denied for a totally different issue, and it is extremely upsetting that we are not allowed help. Makes me so angry! In fact I had a mamoetry that was pre-authorized, but then the insurance balked at payment for a few months. Good luck

Hello Doctor!! Very informative video! Thank you very much, my husband was diagnosed with achalasia in 2014, the doctors did dilation, then tried Botox injection, lasted 3 weeks, then put a stent in, for 2 months he was eating solids with no problem, but the stent migrated so had to be removed. So fast forward 6 years later, and has lost quite a bit of weight, not able to eat solids again or keep them down. Never went back for check up, bc he said he was fine. Wanted to know if you could refer us to a doctor such as yourself, here in Maryland. He will be going for an endoscopy next week to see what’s going on with his achalasia. Great video, I learned a lot from you so thank you!

Getting ready for the POEM Procedure soon, I was hoping it relieves spasms, Sounds like it’s still part of life even after surgery. Btw up at 3:00am due to spasms. Most of my spasms are stopped with chilled fruits like apples, water melon, pears. Also fresh celery juice made at home. Good health!

Hi, I had an endoscopy and barium swallow test through which they diagnosed that it was achalasia cardia. The doctor prescribed me a nifedipine capsule and asked me to meet after 10 days and he also said incase this doesn't work then surgery will be the last option.unfortunately It didn't work and the doctor is unavailable. I watched many videos regarding achalasia, I found that other than these two tests doctors suggest them to do oesophagal manometry test. All I want to know is whether it's necessary for everyone to take this test? Doctor hasn't said anything about this. I want to escape this test. I think it's painful because it's they insert a tube through nose and they don't sedate. Is it really necessary for everyone to take manometry test.

Hi I had those two test done as well, Now I`m scheduled to do the esophageal manometry with this very doctor. I`m very nervous. If I`m not asking to much did you have the procedure done ? I`m about to back out.

@@brendad9763 yes I had to take the test but the doctor was kind . He inserted the tube through nose and started the process after sedation. So I dint feel anything. It is a must that everyone with achlasia has to take up this test. There are many types of achlasia and only with this test they can identify the type and do what is necessary. Don't worry. After the whole process I was relieved. I am able to eat what I want to. Will keep u in prayers.

They did mention in the instructions that I would be under sedation being that I am having a endoscopy prior so therefore they would be inserting the tube at that time.
