UConn coach Geno Auriemma talks Paige Bueckers' 'aggressiveness,' improved parity in Big East | SNY

In this UConn news conference, Huskies head coach Geno Auriemma says the holiday break did not necessarily come at a good time with the team playing so well but hopes embarking on their intense conference schedule will have them focused, beginning with Sunday's game against Marquette. Auriemma doesn't expect any team to go undefeated in the Big East, citing the growing parity in the league. Fortunately for UConn, they have a difference-maker in Paige Bueckers and the coach has been impressed with how "aggressive and active" she's been offensively, especially given the losses of Azzi Fudd and Caroline Ducharme.

Amari DeBerry seems to be afraid of the ball. Too much time sitting on the bench and not playing. Of course, there's always hope. She's a person who plays basketball. She's not a basketball player.

If I were Geno, I'd start playing Amari De'Berry right now & I'd forget about Caroline for the rest of the year. That's because Geno won't beat a team that fields a Cardoza, a Betts or a Brink without Amari, and the aforementioned is true because Caroline has had too many neck & head injuries. Start her & let her play the entire 1st quarter unless she just stinks up the place. Use a full court press on defense & run the opposition into the floorboards in that 1st quarter. Use the whole dang bench. Keep fresh legs in and out. Nobody sits. The goals of the 1st quarter are to run the opposition, especially the center, dead & to make everyone on the team, even Bettencourt, a contributor to a win. Admit that Edwards & Ice Brady can't play against a player like a Brink, or a Betts, or a Cardoza unless they are fatigued beyond all belief. Write Caroline off & expect her to transfer out. Admit that you're going to lose her like you lost Saylor.

@@wda2478 Geno will never give Amari more than 5-10 mins a game as she stands now. If Amari was a good rebounder she'd be getting time. If she were a good defender she'd be getting time. If she were a good shot maker on the block or from the mid range she'd be getting time. She is none of these. Worse her basketball instincts are incredibly poor. She's a junior, and as Geno has said, this is what she is, and she isn't going to suddenly have a light go off in her head that makes her a good player or even a major contributor.
