All sports leagues would suck if they relied purely on drafting unqualified players because they're related to another player. This only happens with super stars, because nobody cares if you're related to some mid player, which is also why it isn't a big deal. Other forms of nepotism often happen because the kids of people in a given business are also more likely to have experience in that given business anyways. And any serious role is not going to be given to someone incompetent due to nepotism (And if that happens, the business doesn't last long)
@brianogrady3185
@brianogrady3185 Ай бұрын
There’s always this weird strawman made how everyone’s fine with nepotism with Ownership, FOs, coaching, etc. Uh…no? lol you constantly hear owners who inherited their teams from their fathers (Buss, Dolan, Mara, etc) about how incompetent they are and only got the team because of their fathers. Or whenever a GM or HC is bad, their nepotism is brought up. This idea everyone is fine with it and it’s never brought up except when it comes to players is ignoring reality to make your point seem poignant.

I don't get how inheriting a team from your dad makes you any more incompetent as an owner than simply buying a team from money you made in a completely different business. If anything, a person who grows up around their dad who owns a sports team is going to be more invested and more knowledgeable about the field than some random business person. David Tepper, Panthers owner, is constantly criticized for being out of his depth, despite not having inherited the team and being one of the richest owners. I know that's besides your point, just saying. Agreed Colin is being ridiculous by pretending we're all okay with nepotism that doesn't directly benefit us.

Why can’t LeBron seek a 1-year deal while Bronny goes back to college? If the whole point is for them to PLAY together, why declare now just so Bronny can fight for minutes in the G-League? Two of the nepo examples Nick mentioned on FTF yesterday, Chris Smith and Seth Curry, both played 100+ more games and put up better stats in college than Bronny. Forget the “nepo baby” debate or whether or not he “deserves” to be drafted, it feels like he’s being pushed to do something he’s clearly not ready for.

Sadly he has been playing hurt again and now got pulled from a game because he couldn't finish and that is scary to see from him. Right now they are ust saying they see nothing crazy but still doing and MRI and yeah. Either way , nevermind the coaching changes the best players one the team have not been able to play healthy together most of the year. GM's and the Media still leave in the past. You can't win much with just 2 elite players and a bunch of nobodies. You need 9 to 10 good and well connected players to win it all. The Bucks, the Suns, the Clippers without Russ, the Mavs before the trade deadline and the Lakers before DLo green light had the same problem. In today's NBA you need multiple players that can win you multiple games outside the big 2 or 3. You need players that can score 20/25/30 points other than your stars. You need players that allow your stars to rest or score 18 and the team still wins multiple games. The Bucks can go nowhere without both Lillard and Giannis having good to great games. Denver is special because multiple players can win you the game, even if Jokic goes 14-10-7. Tatum can score 17 on 5-18 shooting and the Celtics still win by a decent margin. 1. Giannis and the Bucks GM's are the ones to blame. Neither desired to keep a winning coach and signed an outdated mid coach. 2. This Bucks project needs better complementary players and more balance. 3. Lillard should go. Giannis is clearly the primary ballhandler of the team - at least, this is what he wants to be. 4. Brook is no longer the player he used to be. Bench him. 5. Giannis need more Klay Thompson / Huerter / DiVincenzo ... wait! - type of players. Players that can be effective without needing the ball much. 6. Coach Bud is no longer there but Bret Brown could be a decent option. He was the only one capable of making Ben Simmons play.

The Blue Bloods, imo, are the historically great programs. I'm shocked Nick forgot about Kansas, but KU, UK, and UNC are the top tier blue bloods. Naismith invented the game at Kansas, and his coaching tree includes Rupp and Dean Smith. Those three schools are pretty much always great. They're also top 3 all time in wins and winning percentage. Duke and UCLA are also historically great programs, but mostly due to one all-time great coach. Indiana is also in the conversation, although they haven't been nearly as good this century. UCONN didn't make a Final Four until 1999. They've been the best program since then, and their success in the Final Four (6 out 7 championships is crazy) with 3 different coaches is remarkable, but they've also missed the tournament several times in that span. They're a New Blood, and they're the best right now.

The definition of "blue blood" is a person of noble birth. So if a program didn't win multiple championships almost 100 years ago or roundabout the dawn of television, they can't really ever be blue-blooded no matter how many championships are won. Modern times, "elite" is probably the descriptor. Being a blue-blood doesn't necessarily equate to an elite status. A blue-blood is just a traditional brand. A lot of them are still successful, but not all of them all of the time.

Real talk, nepotism or not, i think the whole bronny conversation is weird because i dont think ppl pay attention enough to how bad some of the players who are drafted in the 2nd round are lol, a lot are random europeans who never even come to america, like to take a chance on some kid who was thought to be the best wing defender in his high school class is really not that crazy

I think people wouldn't care if Bronny gets drafted if the media didn't push the "sport is a meritocracy" line all the time

@@mattpiercey1576That's such a cope. Nobody's angry because they think this is nepotism. They're hating on the boy because of his father. And the media doesn't push any meritocracy narrative. That's outright nonsense. Sports just is, and even if you get through by other means, you'll ultimately be exposed

They didn’t have the light on them that Bronny has. He’s had the light on him and has been God awful

No one has been in favor of nepotism ever. The whole reason we like sports, is because you can’t play QB for the Chiefs, because your dad owns the team.
