Uconnect 8.4 Boot loop fix: SOLVED

Thank you!! I just bought a used 2015 GC Overland yesterday. Tried to update the software because the navigation wasn't working and got stuck in the endless loop. Called Uconnect support and they told me there was no way out of the loop and that I need a new "radio". This fixed it. AND!... It appears the navigation is working correctly. Time will tell but at least I got everything else back up and working properly.👊👊👊👊👊 Fist bumps all-around!!

I did this but my gps shows me in Texas and not Ohio. It told me it needed calibrated and to drive to an open area but when we did that…it didn’t update at all. Other than this…it fixed my problems.

THIS MAN IS THE GOAT I had this issue and spent an hour reading through forums tried everything you can think of or have seen. How it “fixes” it is by using a Lowe version update file to trick the system into rebooting out of the update program. Because it’s a lower version as soon as it starts the update it realizes it’s a lower version doesn’t know what to do with it so it restarts back into the system. Because the update file for the newer version kept getting stuck before finishing it would boot back into the update program and not back into the system. Now you MUST realize at least for me the update got stuck at 11/14 meaning there’s at least 4 updates that were not installed. The software version is correct but at this moment I don’t know what wasn’t updated. The system is exactly the same as it was before besides gps saying it needs to calibrate and still have the issues I had prior to trying the update. Those 4 updates may not even have been needed but all I know is it’s 2 am and I can go to bed.

I have a 2014 Jeep Cherokee Trail Hawk, I tried to install the version you used for your vehicle (16.33.29), apparently the installation was working fine, but a few minutes later I got a message saying the version is not for my Jeep :( I was frustrated, I tried turning the engine off and back on and magically the JEEP icon appeared on the screen and the uconnect system worked again! I checked the system version and it says it has the 18.45.01 version, I don´t know how it happened, but the only thing I can say is THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HELP! and thanks to the person that shared the link, user ID and password for downloading the file!

Trevor, I was so excited to find your post and appreciate the effort you put into this. My situation is exactly as you described and I feel sure this would resolve my issue. If you used the earlier versions sometimes it actually will give you most recent version. Congrats on getting out the loop!

Should only be in one folder all files. On the forum website I don't see access anymore sadly. There is a PDF on there to explain, but it's a little more technical. You can try to contact the user on there.

unfortunately, I do not, the laptop it was on was cleaned out. The website shows a more technical approach. I have message on that forum many times trying to get that access again. The only files I have were from Uconnect site, which put me in that situation.

I disconnected the battery and even disassembled the screen, put everything back together again and it's still the same.

I know frustration you feel. Did you download the older update file I had in the details? The newest version update gave me problems I had to use an older version to get the everything back to default. Worked in 20min.

Here is G-drive with files I last used, but I think these were from Uconnect site and that gave me problems. Please compare what you get from official Uconnect site. If you system goes into boot loop I am not responsible. Check with a local dealer if they can do the upload so you don't have to pay for a new radio like they tried to charge me.

Yes the Uconnect website gave me issues, and i had to search net for other files. Sadly the website I found is not available. at 1:57 of the video I used only 3 files that were downloaded for a previous version, which updated my system to newest version. Hope this helps a little

I am having the same issue but in my 2020 Jeep Wrangler. Their PDF mentions many Jeep models except Wrangler. I wonder if uploading that driver will mess with my Uconnect since it is not on that list. I can't seem to find any other solution though.

When you insert USB, does it automatically start upload? Make sure there are no folders on USB,just the files.

@@TrevorChap I used an 8GB Gigastone that I found at Ace Hardware. Formated it to FAT32, and did the extraction, when i put it in the Uconnect, it loaded the first unit, reset, and whalla, I was back in business.

I was able to fix my boot loop by checking the downloaded files against the listing they provided in the instructions. The 18.45 update did not have to downloaded docs correctly labeled as .bat.exe .log. Once I updated the files to add that it worked. Hope this helps someone!!

There is no Byte file to create, simply download the file into USB drive and then plug into vehicle USB drive. Consult manual or online forums for proper procedure.

Also use Chrysler 300 forums and search "Uconnect boot loop", because I came across other vehicles outside of Jeep with same problem

its a dead fan like most of the 500ls and 500s, the fan in the radio dies, then the radio gets to hot and then shuts off tries to turn back on, gets too hot rinse and repeat till eventually it will die for good.@@TrevorChap

That sounds like something outside the Uconnect update. I'd have diagnostic done on the computer system and see if you can maybe do a reset, but check with a mechanic first. @@newmeadam
