You want to restore creek beds while adding more water to them at the same time? It’s simple. Slow the water down! Too many developments go in and offer very little options to slow the water down. That’s why creek banks get washed out. During heavy rains all the water runs off and goes directly into the creeks rather then soaking into the ground and going into the water table. This is all very simple. Slow the water down so that it seeps into the ground rather then directly to the creeks. Our lack of environmental knowledge amazes me. Instead of slowing water down to save creek beds let’s just spend money on rebuilding the creek beds so we can put more water into them. Water scarcity is a problem created by the developing world, not the earth.

Looks like they did some good work. I've watched a few of these videos and I had no idea how much engineering goes into the various stream controls such as cross vanes.

Another advantage of flood plains on farm property is the floods add silt to the land which builds up the ground without using fertilizer.

Amazing. The mini flood-planes really blew my mind. I am in the research and analysis phase of a dryland restoration design and this really makes sense. I will seriously consider using this.

Why doesn't stream restoration start at the source of the rainwater runoff by building small dams where the rainwater comes off the farmer's fields? The rainwater runoff held back by the dams then would soak back into the groundwater. Contour farming will also hold back the rainwater runoff from the farmer's fields. The female bumblebee hibernates over winter in the dirt streambanks. The endangered Eastern Massasauga Rattlesnake, Blanchard's Cricket Frog, Hines Emerald Dragonfly all hibernate in the native crayfish's burrow along the streambank. The bank swallow and kingfisher make their nest in a hole dug into the dirt streambank.

Cattle are okay around streams provided they graze vegetation there minimally and the banks are shallow.

@@LureThosePixels That is why you graze them minimally. Animals do normally frequent waterside locations. A little from cattle is okay. You don't want the cattle go damage the soil and plants around the streams. Management is key.

I am from Massachusetts, too and I completely agree with many so-called socialist projects. The interstate highways system is in the same vein as the EPA. We are all in this together---there is no way we could exist as a modern nation-state without cooperative (socialist) programs. What really pisses me off is the way most red states are very regressive and end up getting more of the money distributed by the federal government than they put in---all the while bitching about the damned Blue States. Most of freaking red states like $1.50 for every dollar they put into the national kitty and the blue states get around $.84 (84 cents) for every dollar we put in.

Are you serious? Living in a Blue state we can say the same thing about urban Vs the suburbs or neighborhoods Vs neighborhoods. You think Baltimore city supports the rest of the state of Maryland? Or Chiago in Illinoi or even Boston in Mass? But I see why you are mad. You are just looking in the wrong place to lay blame. So here are a couple quotes to help you, "40 states have a balance of payment ratio higher than 1.00. Far from a dependency caused by state political leaning, it is typical for states to receive more in federal funds than they collect in federal taxes - an anomaly made possible only by rampant federal deficit spending" and "The states with the highest personal income per capita are Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York and New Jersey (and highest taxes)" and "federal means-tested eligibility does not control for differences in cost of living between states. Mississippi and Hawaii are the least and most expensive states to live in, respectively, while federal eligibility requirements are uniform. Many Mississippians receiving federal assistance would not be considered “poor” compared to their state’s cost of living, while many Hawaiians not receiving federal assistance may be considered “poor” because of how expensive Hawaii is compared to other states. Balance of payments ratios have nothing to do with state policy and everything to do with state income" Basically, you are mad that your state's taxes are higher than other states (because of things like the Big Dig) and you want other states to tax more because you have to pay more. The saddest part is you didnt listen to Obama when he said "you didnt build that". You think Mass could stand on it's own? The f_in state can't even feed it's self. That's where your subsidies go, Bleu inner cities and Rural areas that feed you a$$.

So, the private landowners ruined the stream and the rest of the public pays to remediate the disaster they created.

What exactly is "excellent land owner participation"? Seems like one of those subjective criteria that ultimately punishes those who are not of a type? Rich, white, and uncomplicated, agreeable, what?
