I was looking for Tom Lipton (Ox Tools) in the group photo. Pretty sure he works there. I actually used the machine shop at the UC Berkeley PEER Seismic Research campus for cutting down some 2" diameter bolts for a 5000 amp switch we were testing there. The head guy over there was concerned that I was going to cut my fingers off on their DoAll bandsaw that I was using. I explained that I had the exact same DoAll bandsaw in my home shop, and figured I new a little bit what I was doing. Fair question, as some mechanical engineers can be dangerous around equipment. They have a killer Southwark-Emery press there. Awesome place. We were there to use the shaker table. --Doozer

That press is down at the Richmond field station and not up on the hill at LBL. The shaker table is pretty awesome and can replicate specific earthquakes. I'm going to bet your bandsaw is a 16 inch doall vertical. Dozens of those saws here on the hill. Cheers, Tom

@@oxtoolco Yes, it was their facility down on by the water. I was there to use the shaker table. We shook our switch to 6.5 on the Rictor scale and that meant it passed the test. Yes the shop in the building that housed the Southwark-Emery press had a 16" Doall, just like I do at my shop here in NC. They had a few lathes there too, I don't remember now. Our hotel was in San Fransisco, or somewhere close to there. I remember we had to drive to Grainger and buy a 3" slugging wrench to get our job done! Another thing I remember, the coffee was really good there. Must be a thing. It seemed many of the buildings did not have heat or A/C because of the moderate temps there. Cool place. I kinda want to live there. Ahh, too many machine to move though. Thanks for the reply Tom. ---Doozer

@@oxtoolcoWhat do they have machine/work wise at the SSL? Was thinking about taking a job there.

Hey Kooldoozer. Thanks for the shout out. I managed to stay out of this video. Cheers, Tom

@@williammorris1763 Not sure. We don't have much contact with SSL. They are up the hill from us overlooking the Lawrence Hall of Science. I have heard they only hire temp but that is just something I heard. Cheers, Tom
