Sobersji, Would this pace of playing be possible with the Sur Rabab considering the way it is held?

Very good point... No, not possible if held on Rabab position and as I said the recording being Sur Rabab is only my speculation to invoke discussions like your comment as interested people in this subject are very rare. Also let me state that a sur rabab (according to my research) was played like a sarod so horizontal position mostly though there must had been other variations when it is a very rare instrument.

SobersChatterjee I see. I was not aware that Sur Rabab would be played in a horizontal position. Certainly the sound of the instrument is intriguing.

I don't think so.. Listen to his Puriya Dhyaneshree where in the vilambit gat he sometimes reaches the speed while doing the layakari. Also listen to Sakhawat Hussain in a rare video recording from 1937... actually playing fast in Sarod was a norm in those days and alap was rare.
