Glad Carson seems to be relatively ok. That was an intense few moments. Extremely respectable actions from several drivers and the safety team.

This was gut wrenching to watch. Prayers to Carson that he's okay. One of the worst head ons into the wall I've seen and at Knoxville too which is a very fast track. Thank you Brad, Giovanni, and Spencer for coming to the aid of your brother in arms. This will not be forgotten.

I was at the 2006 Nationals when Steve King hit the turn 3 wall. His seat broke and it killed him. Was pretty gruesome.

This just underscores the importance of having well trained track personnel and the proper resources. Had this accident not occurred at knoxville we may have had a much worse outcome. Only the premier tracks have the resources to have all the best equipment available for these incidents. Most local tracks and fire departments dont have access to type b foam for aviation fires or in this case a methanol fire. And also I've seen many bad safety crews in my day. We have to make sure all tracks are properly prepared for this type of situation.

When you watch the footage, you see that Brad did not even look to see how bad the flames were. He went straight to the cab of the car to grab hold of the belts.

Having both my grandfathers being inducted into the racing Hall of Fame and my uncles and growing up at the racetrack to see that was one of the scariest things if someone is unconscious or hurt and their cars on fire is one of the worst scenarios.

This was about as serious as it gets. The safety personnel made it to the wreck extremally fast. This was a well trained crew and they ran into a few problems. Think about the tracks that are not that well equipped.

It was about 4 seconds from when the car came to a stop. Which by any standard is astonishing. Gives the driver every chance to survive such a situation

Well trained? Maybe so, but they failed with fire attack. In fact, it appears that the extinguishing agents used weren't sufficient. Water IS NOT EFFECTIVE on alcohol fires.

Influenced by Occam and looking at the video, Carson got a little loose in turn 4 and then went straight according to the left front wheel (You cannot see the right front wheel) which landed him in the fence. The commentators said that the drivers were using 4 tear offs per lap so maybe he was blinded by the dirt. Could be mechanical but JJR is a top team, well resourced. Carson will probably not remember what happened so we will probably never know.

You damn right. Dead weight is hard to extract. Methanol fire + Knocked out driver. Wolfgang burned-up because of a double rap aluminum seat. Black man's waist is round. White man's waist is oval. White man has to stand, turn 90 degrees to get body through, then turn back 90 degrees to sit. Try extracting an unconscious driver out of that chair. Today, there's left side safety cages. Additional vertical roll cage support bar. Halos. HANS device. Mandatory cockpit fire extinguisher (that didn't work here) Huge, full body enclosed seats. Left side arm guards. Fuel pump 10 inches away from driver's junk. Throttle has a perch below and above your toes. To lift if throttle sticks. 10X more shit (than Wolfgang had to contend with) to get hung up on now, when trying to get out.
@brianhagler4490
@brianhagler4490 Жыл бұрын
Doug Wolfgang burned after his car crashed and he was unconscious. There was virtually NO safety workers at that crash. If it wasn’t for Mark and Steve (other drivers) there to get him out, we would of perished. He had every right to bring a lawsuit as that was deliberate indifference. The sport needs these safety devices, or more would perish. What all tracks need is the proper training and equipment to handle these kinds of instances; crews should know the car in side and out. Just because someone is a EMT or Paramedic, doesn’t mean they’re necessarily useful at a track like this. This sport is getting faster and faster- one would think that the safety aspect would keep pace, but thats’s not always the case.
@raymond3803
@raymond3803 Жыл бұрын
@@brianhagler4490 That's not true. There was a fire crew at Lakeside. They hired him. Same guy and his team worked out of a Ranchero or El Camino type fire rescue vehicle painted up to identify what it was. They were considered good enough having served many tracks in and around the Kansas City area for years at the time. Wolfgang's crash exposed their incompetence. Somebody isn't doing some lab work somewhere. While driver uniforms have improved more than I thought, a methanol fire extinguisher doesn't seem any more effective than they were when Swede Savage crashed @ Indy in 1973. btw: Savage walked to the ambulance stretcher too, crash still proved fatal one month later from a hospital staff infection. WoO organization is vulnerable to legalities RIGHT NOW. To mandate a worthless cockpit fire suppression system while simultaneously allowing a high-pressure fuel pump to be mounted 10" away from driver's junk. What kind of sick mongoloid mentality is that?

Where is a fire suppression system
@brianhagler4490
@brianhagler4490 Жыл бұрын
If the suppression system was still in the car, I didn’t see any indication it went off. Those systems are not designed to extinguish a fire such as this. There is Methanol and other car lubricants etc that are at play here. Methanol fires need water to dilute so the dry or foam can help extinguish; water also helps cool. From the video I watched, it appears there wasn’t enough water. I know Brad is upset at this situation, because it could of been him or others. They need to push the Woo to have standards for tracks across the country. Knoxville has a good crew but there is always room for improvement. Hope they look at this proactively and move forward with training.
