I'm so amazed with this reveal as an Udyr fan. Like, I know we give Rito shit for some champs not being on brand, but Udyr is OMEGA on brand. For those who don't know: Udyr is Sejuani's father (she doesn't know) so the fact that they have so much synergy and level up in such a similar way is hyper flavorful. Lee Sin is also like his best friend, so the fact that his support cards give Lee an in towards Freljord also feels super flavorful. I absolutely love it. This is the first Freljord champ since Lisandra I've actually been hyped for!

What people dont understand yet is that the regen stance is built so that udyr can strike on defensive turns as a blocker to generate a stance each turn, Or to have a 0 cost stance every other turn. Plus with the stance gemerating units that exist the 3 mana cost of a stance change would be none existent half the time with udyr

Why none is talking about Swain. Guys, Swain is another good champ to be partner with Udyr. Udyr has a lot card that make Swain goes insane like overahelm stance, and deal 1 to everything stance. And Swain has a lot nexus dmg card that support Udyr too. Think about them.

Yeah I agree. The 8 cost boar gives super fearsome and ram stance can instantly level a swain from 0 to 12 and proc the stun for a board wipe. Of course I love the idea of having galio with regen, just creating a 0/11 formidable spellshield regen that rallies constantly would allow you to crush the enemies board and go for an instant lethal.

You're heavily underselling boar stance, it can make udyr a big regenerating body so hes able to continue striking. Yes overwhelm is nice but that'll only be used once you already have big bodies to end games. Ram and boar stance are the ones that are going to be used most frequently bear will be niche but it has its place and claw to end games. I think hes solid

turn 2 stance generator card into turn 4 4/6 regen unit that creates stances and reduces their costs (create in attack, reduce in defence etc.) seems pretty good to me. Regen and high health will let him live long enough and since it is a strike, not an attack, you can get free stances every turn. So if you can protect him against stuff like P&Z, you can have a 6/8 regen unit by turn 6 and it doesn't cost anything, you can still play other cards on turn 5 and 6. Imagine playing that 6 cost stance card afterwards. 8/8 owerwhlem, regen champ on turn 6 is pretty good. Then you can finish off games on turn 8 with that chonker of a boar reliably.

And remember that Freljord has pretty good defence cards like elixir or chant that can protect Udyr or other followers that you can buff for a fairly cheap price. Combine him with Demacia to utilize strikes and finish off games with the boar (it is a better Citria, Ahse or Tryn IMO) Use Targon and maybe even Taric to super buff your board and use Targon's healing tools. Use it with Ionia for super control (Maybe with Karma or Lee). He seems very versatile and fun to use. He looks certainly better than Aphelios because of the reduction. All of that for it to get turned into a Manatee.

The one thing I'd like to point out about your comment: He's got old Kindred starline, so unfortunately he goes down as a 5 mana 4/6 regen, not a 4 mana one. That's still not bad though, and the rest of the game should play out trying to keep him alive and going tall (unless you're playing into a control SI or Bandle deck) Big agree overall, I love Udyr's design and the versatility of both himself and his support cards, I'm hyped to try out a bunch of Udyr decks in the upcoming expansion

I think you are underestimating the versatility of the Stance Swaps. Aphelios's weapons are more impactful, but are all "this round" effects. Udyr's stances clearly are working towards units that stick on the board, like in scarground or dragon decks. They are expensive, but c'mon... regeneration on ANY unit without having to run troll gifts on your deck? AND a health buff? Sound awesome

These units creating spells and spells creating spells is perfect for Lee Sin/Eye of the Dragon decks. It definitely gets you out of Targon/Zoe, and potentially more survivability with access to freezes, which can replace your stuns. Some games you just don't draw Zenith Blade(or Lee lololol, or you used all your gifts to summon Eye, but desperately need access to overwhelm) so having access to a stance card and overwhelm will help out. I can see Lee Sin, Udyr, Eye, Entreat, and a few of the stance creating cards. Then you have access to freezes, troll chant, and a few other good cards.

I think I have a 52/53% win rate with it, so like tier 3 level. I was losing sooooo many games with Udyr while Gnar provided so much utility with card draw, meaning I was able to remove avarosan sentry for will of Ionia.

I believe the way Udyr is meant to be played is that you get a stance on drop and then you discount it on the attack/block. After you get the overwhelm and the regen you just slam +2+2 forever :D.

The way I see it is, some kind of mono Freljord style deck with a big focus on keeping him alive with survival spells and regen so he can strike offensively and defensively, and then he kind of becomes like Freljord's version of Pantheon as a big overwhelm stat stick that just keeps growing

Decks are naturally going to have weaknesses, just look at Formidable and all the weaknesses that deck will have to face against. The idea is most likely to be that Gnar will be focused around impact, and impact + allies going through to hit the nexus is what will level Udyr in an Udyr/Gnar style deck, which is why is level up is what it is. That's my guess at least

I think victor udyr might be good. Going into augment with the stances granting overwhelm helps take advantage of the attack buffs. Using the argument package also helps lower the curve a bit and using ballistic bot helps level udyr. Using the stances and ballistic bot triggers help level both champions which can turn into bombs left unchecked. The P & Z region also offers a lot of potential burn dmg via spells which means with the ram stance can help be another ping to burn down your opponent along with stuff like mystic shot.

Udyr's archetype might be too slow for the meta for my 1st impression. A lot of these cards bring back Kindred's weakness and spirit stance is a slow spell.

Kindred is a removal engine and Udyr is a value one. Besides being a 5 mana 4/4, they don't share a whole lot in common, and if you look at them for their stats alone, Udyr has almost none of Kindreds weaknesses. He can level in hand and any stats he gets from his level 2 ability is functionally permanent, meaning top-decking your second or third Udyr in the super lategame can result in a big ball of stats, even if you have to apply useful keywords like Overwhelm manually.
