Many thanks really saved the day for me in Maya even. Process is the same just have to make the tetraheadron on your own and flip the mesh to make the unreal hair UVs direction. Also set U and V to 1 no rotation. Worked like a charm!

Hi i did this tutorial on my character in UE 4.27 and it worked perfectly.. recently i updated my project to UE 5.3 and the UV doesnt seems to work anymore.. does anybody can confirm if this method works on UE 5.3 as well? Or do i have to find an other solution ?

For those who have issues with unwrapping the Octahedron's UVs, try to Mark Seam and unwrap around other vertices. As of 2.92 Blender I had to unwrap from front side (not back side). For 3.6 Blender it doesn't seem to work at all and after unwrap it always separates one face from the others. So I just had to export from older Blender version. For those who don't know how to add object from other .blend file to yours: On top left select "File" -> "Append", then find .blend file of the scene with that object and select which collection you wish to add it to. You must be in Layout tab though to be able to append file.

Hi, I have a problem with baking the paint to texture step. After bake, my octahedron is all black. Only difference is I'm not painting on mesh but using texture in texture paint editor. Do you have any idea why it's not working? Thank you for all your videos btw, really appreciate it.

Hi, thanks a lot for the create tutorial, it's helped greatly. I was wondering how to determine what the UV settings in the material would need to be if the octohedron had the seams at the bottom, instead of at the back like in your tutorial. The tutorial setup gives compressed UV space for the front of the groom area, so I'm trying to move that compressed part to the underside. Cheers.

I am trying to create alembic strand hair for a Daz character. I exported the hair as an object file from Daz and imported into 3ds max to use the ornatrix plugin to create hair strands from the mesh. But when I import it into UE4 it doesn't have any of the original material/texture. Is it possible to use the original material/texture of the hair mesh with the alembic hair I created from it?

Hello, I really need your help- I'm doing exactly as you did in this video and sometimes it works and other times it won't (I'm referring to the import part, and when its not working i mean ue4 crushes right after I click on import, I'm using ue4.26, blender 3.91 with rtx3080, Ryzen 3900x ). I think the issues accruing whenever I'm trying to import alembic of particle with vertex groups assigned in density, any idea how to fix it?

Why do you have to flip, and rotate the hair texture in the ue4 material? That seems like something that could be done in the baking process, or in photoshop at the very least.

Well that's true and I was thinking about removing this part But Its necessary when you use a checker map, only with these settings the checker map gets. Displayed somewhat right.

I wonder how would the texturing of the hair be done using Maya. In Xgen it uses the scalp texture to color the hair, not sure if the same applies to Unreal.

I have created some hair and exported it. I had set 20 as display and render amount and the export file was 120000 KB. I changed it to 10 and its size reduced to 80000 KB. It takes ages to import it in unreal Any suggestion?
