ive been stuck in ue4 for multiple projects for the longest time and am looking forward to jump into UE5. while i feel i have missed the boat on getting into UE5 early, i am excited to find this channel as this tutorial was great while going into detail into industry practices. Definitely subscribed to see more of this kind of stuff

Glad to have you here!! You haven't missed the boat! Unreal Engine is always adding more fun stuff to their engine, for example the new Procedural content which im currently wrapping up a video for everyone on! There's no better time than the present :]

One of the most useful tutorials I have ever seen! Really informative, and for me I dont use Unreal but these techniques can be used in blender or any other 3d softwer for world building

Tbh i hated when they explained the displace method in that UE5 video but after seeing your workflow it makes sense and doesnt really look that much of a hassle, very cool video.

Thanks for the great tips, I will definitely use them in my other projects in ue5. Also, I would love to see a video of you going over some scenes from the Mandalorian or Bock of Boba Fett where you designed or helped design the environment, explaining how you created it, what problems you had and maybe some tips and tricks.

That is actually a series we're working on at my job! They're going to be starting their channel here shortly and those videos will be more specific to sets and experiences, as well as more structured educational content, so, for conflict of interest reasons my channel I have to keep more based on my personal work as well as general knowledge sort of stuff! Either way though, that content is in the process of getting made and i'll be post on this channel when that's happening!

I am interested in learning 3d stuff, and recently i completed my high school so i am planning to learn blender and unreal engine 5 from now onwards. Can you suggest me good laptop under 900$(my budget is 1000$ but with taxes and other stuff 100$ will be gone) for unreal engine 5 and blender. (I will need a laptop as i am going to join college) Thanks

Things to look out for though is Intel Processor and Nvidia graphics card as thats what Unreal Engine prefers. You can do Ryzen as well for a CPU but make sure you have an Nvidia graphics cards. The downside with that laptop is its only 8gb of memory so it might run a little slow, im not sure if you can add more later, tbh though preferably you want at least 32gb of ram on your computer, however, i know someone getting into UE5 and their PC has 16gb of memory and they have a GTX 1070. It's not ideal but they're able to use it

Thanks for making this channel. Amazing insights from a real pro! I have a question as I'm branching into 3D from the video editing and motion graphics world. I have a top-of-the-line Mac Studio, which has been fine for Blender. But I've learned that Lumen and Ray Tracing are not available on Mac. Is there a workaround, like rendering with a renderfarm? Will not having these be fine for creating environments for virtual production, or is a PC absolutely necessary for optimal quality?
@DallasDrap
@DallasDrap Жыл бұрын
thanks for the kind words!! Im hoping to expand on the content to cover a lot more bases as well! As far as the Mac question, as far as i know it just doesnt work unfortunately. There might be a work around, such us installing an instance of windows on the mac, however I had a student last semester in my Gnomon class who was using a pretty beefy mac and nanite just would not work at all and we couldnt find a fix. You'd think with how popular macs are, particularly in VFX that Epic would expand the support however to my knowledge they haven't really added mac support in any meaningful way for UE5

how viable are these for an actual game? Sure these are tons and tons of detail, but how well does it run on a.... lets say gtx 2070 (the average video card users have according to steam) Performance is always a concern for me. 😅

is there anychance you could 1. make a tutorial just walking through exactly how u made this scene or 1 like it, that way its easier to see the process of breaking down the detail into stages and seeing what u started with etc. 2. could u make a tutorial for the little stream in the middle, i know u went over it but i think im still confused as im new to ue materials and dont quite understand how it works so if you could show how u go from just dry ground with the base materials and add it so people can follow along that would be lovely. also for the water itself (not the waterline) are u using just a normal material on a plane? anyway thanks for this video anyway, i know your probably busy so only if u feel up to it make these tutorials or walkthroughs. def earned a sub though my guy :)

Actually I plan on doing a full breakdown of my other desert environment i showcase on my youtube channel that has similar features! Currently im working on two other videos first, one is for the new Procedural stuff in 5.2 which im currently wrapping up, then another tips and tricks video. I should be able to circle back here in the next week to get to the steps by steps for the desert environment though!!

So wait u worked on The Mandalorian? If so that is hella cool. Im personally wanting to be an environment artist for games. May i ask what you had to take for schooling? Like if i had a really good portfolio with 100s or scenes that are top notch would i still need to go to school for it? And if so do u know what course i would need to be an environment artist? If you dont know all good just trying to ask as many people in the industry as possible

i actually didnt go to school, which had its pros and cons, but gettin an education whether it be online or at an institution is always valuable. I teach at Gnomon, and i'm also teaching a course at CG Pro here in April as well on World Building, at Gnomon i also teach Introduction to Virtual Production. Fortunately due to where Unreal Engine is, it's an easy transition between game studios and film, or at least easier than it was. I wouldn't have hundreds of scenes, we've hired people who had just 3 or 4 pieces in their portfolio. What I would do is find or create a concept art, recreate that concept art as closely as possible, and when you showcase it on artstation or whatever, do a breakdown, show the concept art so the studios can see what you were building it from and how you got there. You only really need a few pieces like that to get in the industry. Just a few pieces, and sending out your portfolio! Let me know when you get to that point, maybe I can help
