Roberto Baggio is the greatest Italian player. 2 knee reconstructions. Told he would never play again. Lost his speed. Couldn't move laterally without pain. Still became an absolute star. Goals, assists, smart, vision, ability, skillful and a big game player.

Guys it’s an absolute crime that Totti isn’t considered the best Italian player of all time. For me he should be considered either 1 or 2, at worst 3. His stats, longevity, winning the WC with 4 assists 1 goal and 16 metal screws in his leg. Won the scudetto with Roma…if you know anything about Italian football you know how hard that is with Roma’s budget in 2001. Totti is the best 2 footed player of all time, second most goals in Serie A history, golden boot winner, WC winner and Euro cup finalist.

Fabio Capello played with, and managed, Franco Baresi. Carlo Ancelotti played with, and managed, Paolo Maldini. Wild how we once had players like Baresi & Maldini (Milan), Del Piero & Buffon (Juve), Zanetti (Inter), Totti (Roma), Raul & Casillas (Real Madrid), Puyol, Xavi, Iniesta & Messi (Barcelona), Gerrard (Liverpool), Terry & Lampard (Chelsea), Scholes, Giggs & Rooney (United) etc. It seems more unlikely to have those "10+ years of service" players synonymous with their club in the 2020s and 2030s.

They could have chosen an England 'B' team made up of Championship players who do have that mental capacity to deal with it all. Most players don't come from a rich background and actually contribute to a few number of charities. It's not about humility. It's the entire structure. And 90% of that structure is stubbornness.

@@HaelRhys what an opinion though. 90% of structures are stubbornness. That's great point to be said. Seems like there were systemic issues for all the stakeholders in English football. After I watched some English fan channels (especially the fans that casted on DR sports) seems there are chronic ignorance. For example, they used to say that you are not the real fans because you didn't came from the same city of the club, WTF? Yet they don't even knew that their club revenue mostly came from Asia and America. They can explain in details about league 2 clubs yet they need non English employee to scout Juventus game. And as we know, most of the English football articles from the media were kinda trash. Not to mention about the pundits, I remember Luka Modric called out English media for underestimating and disrespect his NT yet Neville demand modric to be respectful to them (seems he forgot that he was the one who made the own goal when Robinson miss kick his pass in Zagreb for Euro 2008 qualifiers)

I want to start by saying I'm a massive fan of Rio Ferdinand and I've followed his career since he was a youth team player at West Ham. However, listening to him talk about his time as a player during Capello's era, it's no surprise that England were unsuccessful in major tournaments. It doesn't sound like the England players possessed the levels of maturity and discipline needed to play a month long football tournament. No beer, no butter and no ketchup is a small price to pay in return for immortality.
