Күн бұрын

Another amazing MK is coming your way this Monday as Luke is back from vacation and joined by the one and only, man in the hat, Chuck Mindenhall to break down everything that happened at UFC 305. First, Dricus du Plessis defeated Israel Adesanya via submission in the fourth round. What does a victory like this prove about du Plessis? What does a loss like this do to Adesanya's legacy? What should be next for du Plessis? Sean Strickland? Robert Whittaker? Khamzat Chimaev? Or Alex Pereira at 185 or 205? Kai-Kara France blew right past Steve Erceg in Saturday's co-main event. Does this make KKF the top UFC flyweight contender? Did Erceg take this fight too close to his war with Alexandre Pantoja? Dan Hooker somehow turned back the clock against the smothering Mateusz Gamrot. This likely pushes him into or close to the top 5. What fight makes the most sense next for him? Lastly, Tai Tuivasa lost his fifth straight fight in the UFC, dropping a lackluster decision to Jairzinho Rozenstruik. Is there any real fix for what ails him? Can we talk about how insane that scorecard from judge Howie Booth was?

The two springbok rugby players are Eben Etzebeth and Siya Kolisi ( who is the captain) just so you know Eben isn’t even the biggest rugby player on the team. Look at the size of RG Snyman who we call “ the viking” they don’t train MMA. Dricus is a massive Rugby supporter and the springboks show support to him. It’s a friendship. He goes to their games and so they came to his fight. The springboks are the current and also 4 time World Cup champions. National hero’s!!

Not buying that Izzy's fire was reliant on Alex or that it died with that W, when Alex wasn't even in mma for most of Izzy's run & fiery fights with Kelvin, Rob 1 & Costa. Or that his fire & motivation wasn't reignited by a guy Izzy thought was questioning & disrespecting who he is & made him cry. DDP will never be fully appreciated as long as he keeps beating main stream mma media's favorite fighters & those expected to beat him bc there's an excuse playbook reserved only for them, with "off nights, different versions, motivations, etc". Remember Rob's chin was gone & he was washed when DDP beat him, until Rob beat Costa, stopped Aliskerov & is about to fight Chimaev.

Could play a role, certainly not the main factor. Izzy was clearly burned out, had climbed the mountain against Pereira, got Strickland on short notice and probably underestimated. He looked the best he has in a while against DDP but made bad decisions in the fourth after getting booped in the head. He's just getting older too. And finally faced a guy who could exploit wrestling.

To me, Dan Hooker is the new Cowboy Cerrone. If you remember, Cowboy had lost 3 of 4 to high level guys, and most fans assumed Cowboy was washed. That was until Cowboy beat Hernandez and proved there was still a lot left in the tank. That's Dan Hooker to a tee. If you want to put him in vs. JG or the BMF vs. Max, I'm all for it. Especially the BMF because Dan Hooker is an action fighter. Either way, Dan Hooker is Cowboy Cerrone.

I would argue that dricus is on a similar trajectory to Ferguson. People can’t deal with his awkwardness and volume but when they chin goes and they lose a bit of speed as well that style won’t work anymore. The blessing he had at that point was that he never fought a power puncher who could punish that style till he met gaethje. The same will happen to dricus when he does. The way he chains different types of offence together is something though

Love that you guys are peeling back those layers on Dricus 😂 , let us know when you figure him out...to get a South Africans mindset you just have to follow the story of the Springboks, multiple and current world champions in rugby, they have their own style, Siya ( Springbok Captain) walked Dricus out with Eben. The jacket Dricus gave Adesanya was a jacket Siya gave Dricus from the Springboks ahead of his fight, it wasn't a nothing gesture. Look into the stories of Siya's team, pure inspiration and hope for the nation

Right, and a different fighting style is certainly difficult to prepare for. But I wouldn't make a comparison between Khabib and Plessis. Khabib's defensive abilities may seem awkward and different, but other than this; his footwork, elusive activity, jab, timing, speed, body locks, ground control, knees and push kicks, hand fighting amongst other things are extremely polished and technical.

It seems like after all that the real story is going to be about Peirera at the end who is most likely going to even become the fighter of 2024. Kinda funny how times goes by with Adesanya's long title reign along with Whittaker watching it closely and now only Peirera has a belt who came all of a sudden like lightning during a nice, quiet season where things were expected to be completely different but aren't anymore.

Luke you are the man and some of your breakdowns are great but saying that Dricus is a bad matchup for Alex at 205 is just silly. As I watched the fight I was actually thinking the exact opposite! I mean Izzy was landing clear shots on Dricus some of the body shots were just gnarly and you only have to see what his face looked after the fight to know Izzy was really finding the target. The thing is Izzy is a volume puncher doesn't necessarily have the power to put you down with one shot. Poatan on the other hand is a real problem we now he doesn't even need to land clean to get you out of there! And the way Dricus fights he is 100% going to land. I would also argue that even though Alex's ground game is underrated he does train with Glover and has being taken down before and proven to be very defensively aware. Dricus makes very good use of his physicality but then again that's not going to be a factor against Alex who is freaking huge even for a 205ver. I do agree with Dricus that maybe at 185 it would be kind of different due to the weight cut and how it might effect his chin but even there unless he gets lucky I would still favor Poatan to win that fight.
