There were still legit movements shown for both armed and unarmed. The angle steps, superman stab, the backpedal. The swords are just sharp extensions. The movements can be mostly similar.

I watched that scene many times. I don't know why Ortega said everybody wanted to be the Spartan but he wanted to be Brad Pitt. I was thinking aren't they the same. I thought he misspoke and meant everybody wanted to be Hector, cause everyone roots for the underdog. Hector by the way held his own very well in the fight scene. Achilles underestimated him.

I find it interesting comparing his review to HEMA practitioner's reviews (usually scholagladiatoria) of sword fights. It's clear that fight choreographers are less reliant on suspension of disbelief seeing as many of the fights in this are apparently pretty decent according to him, whereas in sword/other older weapon (other than knifes) fights its always full of ridiculous spins, pushing off out of a bind (rather than using leverage and maneuvering to get a hit in), swords magically springing off each other, stabbing someone all the way through thick armor and going through their whole body rather than just a couple inches in, etc. It can partially be justified as having to make the fight last a long time, when in reality most fights were over in a few seconds and even for weapons that allow for relatively safe, low risk attacks, like a saber, a minute would be pushing it. But that doesn't justify why the moves are often so ridiculous.
