The thing that I love about ufc is that each fighter's unique combination of skillset and body composition produces a wide variety of fighting styles, a much wider variety of styles than you would see in say boxing. Watching this again, and I have to agree. Round 1 Strickland, purely Damage (10-9). Round 2 Dricus, Controlled (19-19). Round 3 was what determined the fight, can say it was a draw, however if I had to pick it was Dricus's (29-28). Round 4 Dricus, Dominated (39-37). Round 5 Strickland (48-47). Strickland lost this fight, and he knows he could've done better. That's why he wants the rematch so bad. He doesn't want the title, he wants to redeem himself.

Strickland was barely even trying for the first half of the fight while Dricus worked his ass off the whole time. Sean still showed himself as the superior fighter here imo, but the judges decided he didn't work hard enough so they decided to give DDP his fight against Adesanya instead. That fight was sure to sell lots of tickets due to all the racist drama going on between them so they were fine with taking Sean's belt away. I really want to see this rematch because I think Sean will be hungry to have it back. Honestly this rematch might be my personal most hyped UFC fight ever. I like both these guys a lot but I don't know how Dricus keeps beating people who seem better than him in nearly every way. All I can say is chin + stamina maybe?

Du Plessis chose the right strategy, what Adesanya didn't do in the past fight, grappling, more kicks, specially the grappling , where Strickland definitely wasn't good, I think what if challenger doesn't win with ko or submission isn't enough but I understand and I respect the victories by decisions but is always controversial

DDP did nothing with his takedowns. Should receive no points for that its insane. Tackling someone and them winning the fight back to the feet everytime is more impressive than the tackler lol. Makes no sense. Thats why boring fighter exist that just press weight on you the whole fight and "control" you while doing minimal damage. When I watched it live I thought Strickland won (not easily) but clearly. More accurate striking, landed the harder cleaner shots, done more damage etc. Rewatching dooesn't change my mind. Stricklands fight style is just so bad for the judges to score because he conserves so much energy and fights such a compact and efficient style, it sometimes looks like he isn't doing much. 1,2 and a teep are all you need to be a world champ (and the best defense in the world) He got robbed against the black dude with the crystals for the same reason

It all comes down to whether people like watching Defense or Offense, irrespective of the scoring criteria. People who like defense will always overestimate Strickland, people who don't will always underestimate him. Strickland's style is actually very impressive from a technical standpoint, so I see why people believe it was so 1 sided, but I had it 2:2, with a toss up. I like Strickland, but I was happy with the result either way.
