In the early 2000's, I worked with a guy from Brazil, he came from the same town that Royce came from, and he told me the Gracie's had a bad reputation there for going to bars and clubs and starting crap with people ..coming on to women with boyfriends, then beating the daylights out of them (the boyfriends). He said they were real jerks.

Royce has a way of cheating and still gets the favorable. He nut-shotted Shamrock, and the ref allowed it to continue despite being against the rules. And he "won" his 2nd fight with Sakuraba even though he tested positive for steroids.. and somehow, that decision wasn't overturned.

There's no honour in this fight. Royce didn't win. In the traditional battles both fighters wore a full gi. Royce deliberately removed his to take away yoshidas ability to grip. Regardless Royce couldn't win even with his advantage. I would call this another loss for the graces in my opinion.

If you actually watch this when it went on you would know the height behind of it. There was absolutely no way they were going to stop this fight even if both corners jumped in between rounds. This fight as in a lot needed to happen because until sakuraba the Gracie family, especially Royce dominated Japanese fighters. And if you know Japanese fighters they took that to heart so they weren't going to stop this fight and the fighter wouldn't have wanted it to be stopped back in our day. They were actually tough guys

I always wear a cup. Doesn't stop the pain, but it helps alot. And a good fighter can make any discipline look good. So I would not say one was better than another. Learn all you can and keep practicing.

I'm not a fan of Royce Gracie. I was at first, but after seeing cheap shots, a few times, then listening to Superfoot Bill Wallace on judging UFC1, i stopped being a fan. BJJ is a great art. But it has the same limitation as most fighting stules sanitized for the ring. Traditional juijitsu much better, because it uses everything-punches, kicks, knees...my grandfather was a traditional jiujitsu expert, and no one could touch him even in his 70s. Of course he boxed and wrestled too, but he was a tough mofo, for a 150 pound, 5'6" man

haha who cares, this fight is completely void. For 1 it resulted in a draw, Gracie couldn't even beat Yoshida, didn't come close to submitting him, resorted to a blatant early foul to the groin, he was clearly on steroids and was busted for that later on, he was too cowardly to wear a gi, still took some heavy shots from Yoshida and the funniest thing about it is this is a rematch from a fight where Yoshida clearly had him locked in a sleeve choke and was stopped by the referee. Yoshida didn't want to choke him unconscious and told the ref that Royce was going out, which he clearly was. Royce and that entire family are pathetic.

It is funny how Yoshida made Royce forgot the traditional GJJ basics that he strongly defended. Such change did not suited him very well because was not able to beat Yoshida and lost against Matt Hughes without the Gi.

He was never the best in the family. Rickson was the number one champ but several others were better than Royce. Renzo is another who was better and Im pretty sure also has some fights on YT.

@@kenh.5903 I’m a BJJ practitioner, and I don’t know jack about Japanese jiu jitsu. We had a guy join our club, and he was a “white” belt, and he was dummying all the other white belts and blue belts around. Then he I heard he’d told everybody that he had done Japanese jiu jitsu for years before he joined our club. He’s been here a year, and it’s too soon to give him a purple belt, so now, almost as a joke, he’s a blue belt with 5 stripes 😆

So Royce wears a gi when he fights people who don't know how to manipulate the gi but chooses to not wear a gi when fighting a judo master. They both should've been required to wear a gi. It would've made for a much more interesting fight. Yoshida would've been able to toss Royce around like a rag doll, or Royce would've pulled guard like a little bitch!
