Phil Buckhouse I guess you don't understand how it works. Its kinda like musical chairs, there are not enough seats to go around. For every fighter in the UFC there are literally hundreds of people fighting to get there. 500k winnings can feed many fighters not just ONE celebrity poser...
@Doc92IDH8 жыл бұрын
One celebrity poser who brought in a lot of PPV buys. He was the main attraction, he got paid accordingly, and he raised the profile of a young up and comer in Gall. Apparently it's you who doesn't understand how the business works. You could put 500 completely unknown fighters on the same bill over the course of a week long card (if that were humanly possible) and pay them 1k each, and they wouldn't sell a 10th of the tickets or PPVs Punk would've brought in. Simple. It's not like he walked in having done no work to make this a reality either.

@Flukex-ew7yo8 жыл бұрын
+Ivan Drago so all these "keyboard warriors" would take the next fight if it was offered to them, yeh why not because according to you "fuck yeh they would...it doesnt take balls". Punk also said it himself, he wanted to start at the bottom, he didnt demand to be put on the main card, he didnt demand any media attention, he was very introverted leading up to the fight compared to other established fighters. All the over exposure was entirely up to UFC

Flukex1001 A UFC PPV, yes most people with a athletic background would step up for that opportunity, that is the top of the top. What did Punk do in there that you or I couldnt have done. I'm not one of these fans that sits on my couch and says I'm better then that guy. That said what resume did Punk have to be among the elite of the elite of professional MMA fighters. That is total bullshit about him wanting to do amateur fights. Then why didnt he, why did he not do a local promotion in Chicago then. Did Dana White force him with a gun too sign a UFC contract?
@Flukex-ew7yo8 жыл бұрын
+Ivan Drago because like you said (the 2nd time, not the one about the internet smarks) anyone with an athletic background would take that opportunity, those opportunities dont come to everyone, even established fighters, Punk is 37 and perhaps he thought even with some am fights under my belt i might not make it to the main. idk. but i feel if that if Dana had put him on the pre-lims, which in a business sense would have been a bad decision, we wouldn't be having this convo

I seriously feel for this guy. He absolutely believed he would win. Someone needs to be honest with him. This is like fast forwarding getting a black belt. You need an incredible amount of time to be at that level. And it's not like riding a bike. It's just not. And although it was fun for you (great), this is about millions of people watching a fight between equal opponents and enjoying the actual art of fighting and MMA. You can't possibly enjoy watching a guy get beat up like this, so for the fans this was really tough to watch. You don't put an experienced young surgeon and 2 year medicine student next to each other and expect them to perform surgery in the same way. You just don't do it. We all knew he was going to lose. CM Punk is so hard on himself and that's unfair. I'm sorry but I want to see a fight between equal opponents. I don't enjoy seeing someone who's just starting against someone who's by comparison quite experienced.

i gained a ton of respect for Punk after this. he stepped up and trained hard. made the walk to the octagon, got in there and fought. anyone who knows combat knows how tough it is to get in the cage and compete. the real fighters knew he was going to get smoked but what really matters is that he actually got in there and gave it his best. props

I like CM Punk and I feel so bad for him because he's so likable but I agree with you. I've been saying this for so long now. And the other WWE fans and even WWE wrestlers who write shitty tweets to Connor McGregor need to realize this. This isn't wrestling. This isn't sports entertainment. Just because you can fake punch a guy who gets in position for you or lift up a guy who jumps for you to be able to lift him, it does NOT mean you can last in the octogon. It's two VERY different situations. 98% of WWE wrestlers would get raped and murdered by the average MMA fighter, so imagine them trying to face some of the best that UFC has to offer. Hope this is a wake up call to WWE cunts.
@robotontoilet8 жыл бұрын
That's exactly what happened. EVERYONE, including Dana would take any prospect with no fights and send him off to get amateur/low level experience if they wanted him to develop properly....White just threw him in there for cheap money....

I'm glad to have heard him speak and to realize that it takes courage to step into a whole different job. He did it and gave it his all. Sure he is less skilled than Gall but to see him try, under the lights, millions watching, to not have it go your way, get beat up and then have your wife come up to you to say, "I'm still proud of you..." that's it man.
