@@Mat-hr1dg I don't think you want that to happen, if Nintendo loses in Court it could mean the end of mainstream gaming, cause it literally could mean anyone can make emulators and sell them, publishers would not make money off their games, so why make games, Nintendo would lose money on making and developing consoles, so why make them. Obviously they would not lose and take it lying down, but that is the trajectory, either emulators get completely illegal, or it could destroy the gaming or even any computer program. So people need to stop being so naïve, and selfish. Capitalism works because IP, if anyone can take what you make and resell it at a cheaper price or for free it destroys that particular market, because why would you continue to invest in it when someone can just steal what you make.

The problem is that they have to have SOMETHING in the works under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act to maintain their status as a Safe Harbor. And we all know that Google's been all about AI and The Algorithm long before ChatGPT made AI the new hotness. Instead of having a system that's fair to both parties, it's much cheaper to bow down to the group that could sue them into oblivion and tell the group that can't to go fuck themselves. And Google knows there will never be a video hosting site to dethrone KZbin, so viewers and content creators get to polish knobs for all Google cares.

Just wait until you get your monetization crippled because YT claims to have detected invalid traffic on one or more of your videos but won't tell you which video, where the traffic came from or how to remedy the situation. Lots of YTers are suffering from this right now and YT is simply saying "tough". So much for being KZbin PARTNERS... creators are now just KZbin serfs who will put up with whatever is thrown at them or leave. I miss the good old days when YT really understood the meaining of "partner".

I can see how that one is going badly internally though. These illegitimate traffic claims are assumed to be malicious from the start (since the bulk of them is probably small channels with auto-generated videos, but the general public only ever gets to learn of the bigger channels caught in it by mistake). Seeing it this way: asking about it is treated like a potential cheater asking how a cheater got caught: once it comes out new cheaters will take care to not be caught the same way.

@@1337GameDev I have to agree with this point. I have both GOG and Steam, but I still buy and play most of my games on Steam, despite the GOG launcher being able to see and launch Steam games. And while I occasionally watch content on Twitch, I do most of my watching on KZbin. Once a habit has been established... Also, setting up a streaming site is very costly and quite frankly a pain in the ass. Ask Luke of LMG fame about launching Floatplane. I know Nebula's had similar issues.

Yes. I'm not sure what Visa Reese is under, but most visas have time limits. If he doesn't and INS picks him up, one of the actions INS can take against Reese is to ban him from ever coming back to the US. That's why there's been lots of posts to find Reese a spouse in the US, as marrying a US Citizen almost immediately grants the non-US spouse a green card and the ability to stay in the US as a resident alien.

Nintendo is shady, but the larger problem is the DMCA. As a former librarian who is old enough to remember when it originally passed, I've seen it cause all kinds of problems with what should be legal preservation of media and legal use of electronics that you own. Basically, Nintendo's lawyers probably argued that the video was teaching people how to unlock the bootloader and bypass the "lock" Nintendo has in place, which they can argue violates the DMCA. Because of this ridiculous law, none of us really ever own the things we buy, companies like KZbin must comply with takedown notices.
