I met Ed Bishop having hired him as a voiceover to record a radio ad. Funnily enough, it wasn’t until he walked into the studio that I realised he was the legendary Commander Straker. Anyway, not letting on I mentioned on talkback that strange objects could be seen flying at speed outside. On this, and completely in character, he quipped “Does Moonbase know about this?”... Seriously, what a nice guy.

That is the exact same thing in Canada and United States of America. I recently found out it costs half as much per production hour to make, "reality," television programmes, as compared to scripted television with real actors, a real director, and real talent. This is why television producers are pushing the, "reality," tripe so fully. I did give, "reality," a try for two weeks when it first came out. It was the worse two weeks of television I ever had. I refuse to watch any, "reality," television now. It is just basically pointing a wobbly camera at some loser to see what happens. The camera operator has no clue how to hold the camera still, ether. Modern television is easily the worse programmed television ever.

I can't remember this, but the effects look great for the time! Not sure why the kinky string vest uniform would be a thing.
@FuelrIce7 жыл бұрын
+Connie Wonnie I remember very vaguely, though I was admittedly quite young at the time. The uniforms, like much of the wardrobe, are of a piece with "futuristic" uniform notions from the late 1960's. Since the 1960's were only barely over, the same clothing styles would still have been the norm. The real innovation was, oddly enough, the purple-haired girls from SHADO Moonbase -- I can't say that I recall any other TV series of the time going with identical purple wigs.

FuelrIce - Very Gerry Anderson, probs is. I loved Space 1999!

The pacing of the UFO stories was always a bit slow for me, however it looked (and still looks) absolutely effing amazing. The sets, the costumes & especially the vehicles & hardware. Mid-century modern, retro & very cool. Love it. Great theme tune to.

UFO, The Champions, Secret Agent Man, Space 1999. I didn't mention Star Trek, because that was in a class all by itself. Good memories!!!

Sad that all the sci fi now boils down to teen angst shows with sci fi as simply a genre

Yes, I grew up with this and other classic TV series - I always remembered the very different opening and closing music - very 60s action-packed punchy and energetic to open and menacing and genuinely chilling to close - very clever

The DVD release of the entire UFO series is stunningly crisp and clean. I remember watching this on WOR Channel 9 out of NYC and the broadcast quality was terrible. I highly recommend the DVDs.

I did the same thing, I loved watching UFO on tv when I was a kid in Brooklyn NY, and now I just got the 8 dvd set and look forwards to watching the entire series again !!

This was shown in day time TV when I was reading about UFO phenomenon as a kid in the early 80s. Those spinning UFOs and that noise they made we're totally captivating and frightening as I knew they were the enemy. The one scene that stuck in my mind was the captured alien and one of the crew saying he either can't understand them or doesn't want to understand. That was chilling.

WOW ! I never thought I'd get to see this show again, and this popped up in my feed. I loved this show as a kid ! Scary as all get out, but the machines are what turned me on. I was into the Blue Book stuff, read Chariots of the Gods, etc. But this show made the reading and tabloid stories kinda real .

I LOVED this show as a kid! It was like a live action Thunderbirds! A lot of pretty amazing concepts for the time, and I like the idea of the pilots hoping in the chutes to get to their ships. I wish we could get reruns of shows like this instead of Sharknado crap.
