this might give you a grin: in the UK, there was a hugely popular Cop Show, set in Glasgow, called 'Taggart' (the title character being the lead detective, played by the enigmatic Mark McManus). The show began in 1983 and ran for over twenty-seven years, finally ending in 2010, still called Taggart....even though Mark MacManus died in 1994 and was never replaced in the show!

Generally agree with everything you say, but for whatever reason - I really loved this short series. Went in without any real expectations, enjoyed it “enough” thru the last two episodes, then really enjoyed the “twist” and being able to go back thru and watch it again and see all the places/ways that Agatha reacted or said things which absolutely indicated the twist before a lot of us realized it. ☺️ I dunno man, honestly, there was some pretty clever writing / acting involved, unlike a lot of other recent series. 🤷🏻♂️😏👍🏻
@MisterRubbertoeАй бұрын
Your first complaint about the show being named Agatha All Along while it was an ensemble cast… again, it plays to the story - all of the witches that were believed to have died on the witches road throughout the centuries, it turns out (as you know) that Agatha made up the song and was killing them all thru the years, or … all along. And it’s funny, your complaint was that every marvel thing has to be connected to other marvel things - meanwhile most of the complaints I saw when this show started was that “it’s not even connected to anything in the MCU, why should we care?” 😏 I dunno… it happens now and then, where I feel like all the early crapping on a show might have scared away some of the people who would have enjoyed it. The 'Young Avengers' team they are aiming at premiered in 2005, it was really neat and showcased a lot of young heroes that were mostly from preceding books with actual connections to their namesakes or inspirations. Even the newer ones were folded into ongoing stories rather nicely. Like Kate Bishop started using Hawkeye because he was "dead" at the time, but she and Clint formed a cool reluctant mentor/mentee relationship (then she became the unasked for focus in the 'Hawkeye' book and girl-bossed her way into the sun). That initial fun iteration was pretty neat, but the premise was quickly abandoned, the team disassembled, and several reboots and number ones with diminishing returns, as what was initially a team of young legacy characters devolved into "Drama Teen Powers Group". As you do. To that, there is no way they can cobble together a good team out of the facsimiles of the characters they've vomited forth in the MCU. Does anyone want to cheer on Cassie Lang as Stature after "Quantumania"? Will you remember that Isaiah Bradley's grandson briefly appeared in 'Cap-Falcon and the Winter Soldier'? He's supposed to be 'Patriot', who originally claimed his powers were passed down from Grandad (skipping his poor, unremarkable father), but it turned out he was shooting MGH (Mutant Growth Hormone) and was a damn dirty liar. I personally can wait to see where the hell they ass-pull Hulkling from. See, he's supposed to be a Skrull prince and the son of the Kree Captain Marvel (who was Annette Bening in the MCU if you recall) bastard hybrid. With how they've mangled the Skrull and Kree races I don't see it working. My bet is that they grab Skaar (you don't even know who that is, do you?) and shove him in the role since he's there at the end of 'She-Hulk' like some weird terrible haircut fever dream. 'Speed' was in "WandaVision" and "Dr. Strange: M.o.M. but he's still technically imaginary, sorta. We'll need a whole pointless mystery box show to retrieve him, right? Nah, I'm sure his "brother" will snap his fingers and he'll now exist. That leaves who? Ah. Iron Lad. Hold on to your butts; he's the Iron Man suit-looking teenager that is the future grandson of the Fantastic Four's Sue and Reed Richards, who grows up to be Kang the Conqueror (heh, where is Johnathan Majors at again?) but travels back in time to not become the seventeen different villains that are all the same guy in different phases of his long life and career in villainy. How in the blue hell are they gonna... oh wait, yeah, Ironheart.

I remember watching reruns of "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir", as a child and only saw it as entertainment. Recently, the pilot episode of the series showed up among my KZbin recommendations, so I watched it. I would have to re-watch more episodes to confirm this, but finally watching it as an adult, it struck me that the show might have been a vehicle to explore male sexist attitudes, without having to vilify the sexist character, the ghost. The ghost's attitudes are a product of when he was alive and the pilot ends with the ghost pondering what might have happened if Mrs, Muir was born in his time or he in hers.

The whole show just felt pointless. Billy basically killed three people, and now we're supposed to consider him the 'good guy'? And the Salem Seven' ended up being a BIG NOTHING! They're entire role was to scare them into the basement door, and then prompted a 1 minute Broom Ride, because? And then they were killed off unceremoniously, just to get rid of I guess? At least taking their shoes off ended up having a purpose, to show that they'd just walked in a circle...

To be fair, Billy himself points out that he felt responsible for their deaths and Agatha just shows her shallowness by correcting him and saying she would have killed all of them if not for him. The whole point of Agatha and Billy teaming up is that both are dangerous friends who bring misfortune to those around them. Agatha as a ghost now cannot harm anyone, while Billy chooses Agatha as a partner because he won't risk killing her and he feels she is the only one cruel enough to be with him. Agatha Harkness was an embodiment of evil. She wasn’t just a typical villain; she had a literal romance with Death itself. When her son Nicholas was marked as an abomination by her lover, Death, Agatha struck a deal: as long as she kept spilling blood, she could spend more time with him. To honour this pact, she killed other witches indiscriminately for years. Unlike his mother, Nicholas constantly questioned the need for these killings. When Death eventually claims Nicholas, the loss shatters Agatha’s relationship with her and erases any last trace of Agatha's empathy. From that point forward, her motives darken. She begins killing purely for power, luring others with false promises of a “Witches Road.” Over centuries, she amasses an immense body count, showing no remorse. In the present, Agatha manipulates a new coven with the intent of killing them. When Billy accidentally projects the Witches Road, she pretends to go along with it. Along the journey, two witches and an innocent bystander die. Her response to the latter? A heartless, "Who?" In the end, however, Agatha sacrifices herself to save Billy, whose empathy reminds her of her son. Ashamed of the monster she became, she chooses to remain a ghost, unable to face Nicholas. Series Overview: I thought the first five episodes were not good and very slow. Things really pick up in episodes 6-8 as we see connections unfold. Episode 9, however, feels muddled; they dropped the ball on the resolution.

Arrgh, every time something from my past gets mentioned - The Rockford Files - I go completely off track and spend the rest of the day watching re-runs of it. Stop tormenting us. . . . .

So Chato, what percentage of DPvsW goodwill did Agatha destroy... What percentage remains for CA4 to obliterate?

Calling it "Ghey Characters All Day Long" wasn't as catchy, and they don't want to tip their hands too much. They think they are subtle.

I'm sorry, but that comparison is offensive to The Ghost and Mrs Muir. That movie was amazing with two of the best male leads in history! (Great reference regardless.) 😊

No one else on KZbin would have made that reference damn it.

My wife is interested in the Agatha show, despite having been supremely disappointed by Wandavision and MoM. I haven't told her anything about the show. It's probably best she sees what Marvel has become for herself.

If you ever offer a class on how to write and structure shows and movies that will get the attention of producers, I’ll take it.

On the other hand, Ghost and Mrs Muir was entertaining....

Streaming is different from broadcast television in that you don't want to waste a prime broadcast slot on a dud show. But if you've already _paid_ for the show there is only a little hosting cost (and some self respect) to be saved by cancelling it mid-season on a streaming service.

yup. pretty much. the show kept vasilating between Ugatha redeeming herself and being 'evil'. i thought they were going to go on a redemption arc. we were meant to see that she was not wholly evil and things drove her down the path she took. For example, when she stole the fire witch's powers she said it was on accident that should not control it. then she let that other witch unbind herself. and she was quietly looking out for Billy. so when we saw her big flashback, i was waiting for the reason she was stealing witch's powers. She didn't make a deal with death. there was nothing about why she had to do it. she didn't seem to get stronger, or weaker if she did not. the kid didn't get sicker without the magic stealing schtick or better after Ugatha stole the witch's powers. i seriously was waiting for the revelation right up until Death took her kid away after he convinced his mom not to kill the coven. it seeeeeemed like the two events were tied together, but how should i know. the show never told me! then at the very very end, Billy let Ugatha steal some of his power, which she did. so Good Ugatha? but then let Death take Billy. Bad Ugatha? oh wait she turns around and kisses Death (or was that visa versa and Rio gave her the Kiss of Death - metaphor.) i thought THAT was going to be the moment when SOMETHING happened and Ugatha and Billy win over Death and Billy continues Ugatha's redemption. but nope. just ends like you said. so disappointing.
