I hate this “don’t even have to try” narrative like it’s the mega-mind show or something. This was a fantastic effort of hundred of artists HARD work. They did try, this film is the result of a massive and competent effort. I didn’t love it, but it’s by far the best of all the supplemental content to a beloved original that disney’s ever done. It’s even better than a lot of theatric release sequels that were intended to be sequels from the get go they’ve done

That and the fact that it was showing at the same time as The Wild Robot which definitely dragged it down. If a parent is going to take their kids to a movie, they’d probably pick the one that looks palatable to them with sincere and mature plot that was conveyed in the marketing. Cinemas are expensive so being able to go see both without going broke is for rich people.

They're the same as original movies to where if they're good they speak for themselves and if it's bad it's something I and many others will never look at or invest more into again. I saw Inside Out 2, and it was amazing. But this movie I knew was not going to work, because I knew it was a series being converted into a movie. That did not bode well for me, so seeing that the movie succeeds anyway, despite also having reviews confirming my skepticism, is nothing but bad for me. I would have rathered the cinema be saved by Transformers One and / or The Wild Robot. I don't care to see sequel after sequel.

Personally i did enjoy Moana 2 but i do get why people could be and are a bit disappointed. I like Moana and Maui and i also didn’t think the new characters to be completely useless but i do agree that the pacing was off and it felt like they wanted to do more but just couldn’t because there was no time. I think a series would have been sufficient and definitely also very interesting to see. I think making moana 2 could have been a continuation of the series.. but of course moana‘s series would have needed to be accessible because those who didn’t have disney + wouldn’t have had the context of moana 2. The base idea of moana 2 in general was good in my opinion but like they didn’t go as far as they could’ve and i felt like matangi and nalo could’ve been really good villains and if moana 3 is actually coming.. i hope they pull off a good villain with more pacing time and less characters if they are not capable of actually giving each of them the time to develop. All over all i think they needed more Time for heavier acts and stuff, less characters, and an actual villain that feels like a threat. Also i wanna say i am not related to polynesien culture so i am not sure if anything within the movie was offensive and such so if there was i hope they also start to like.. do a bit more research to ensure that the culture is properly represented! But i heard people are saying there is talks of a prequel which i personally would love, like to see maui get his tattoos and such.. just hope they actually pour time into it .. i am always staying optimistic ^^

The problem is not with the movie itself, it's what it stands for. Imagine your girlfriend came home with a nice car for you and you found out the car was made by child slaves. Sure the car runs nice and is fuel efficient but it was made by child slaves. That's Moana 2 but with overworked animators not paid for overtime and changing a TV show into a movie.

Day after release day I saw multiple videos explaining in depth why it is a disappointing sequel, some common reasons being: - the music isn't as appealing this time, and songs don't stick as well - the villains are unfocused, and misleading in the trailers - the character arcs are not as strong in this film - the animation is noticeably lower quality - the movie was originally a TV series converted into a sequel, and has many flaws in the structure, pacing, and presentation due to that - Disney still went ahead and released it as a movie despite that fact, sacrificing telling a story in the best form it could, for a business move - this is a pattern of behaviour for Disney Try looking at the "hate" (critique) with an open mind, rather than pretending the many topics of discussion being opened just conveniently don't exist. Or at least be honest and admit, you just subjectively don't agree. Stop erasing voices though. We are giving you hours worth of reasons.

Can I point out that I feel like it's dumb?In my opinion that people get so worked up about movies like it's either you watch it and you like it or you don't.They have a right to do as they please.It's their creation and just because some people don't agree with it.That really means nothing.It's not your work so people can either like it and deal with it or just don't watch it nobody's forcing you to.

I am not against the idea of sequels but 99% of the time they are just pandering, lazy crap, because industry know they're a safe bet bet because of recognition and so don't bother actually making it good like the original needed to be. It's a real shame, especially when the original is so good.

The name. Certain IPs could have the shittiest movie ever made for them and people will still go because of the name. Just look at Jurassic World Dominion for example: A terrible movie about locusts instead of dinosaurs that somehow still made barely a billion because "Jurassic Park".
