What I loved about Hilda was when she found out her son was gay she didn't even think twice about throwing him a coming out party (even if he didn't want it at the time) and she never had any issue with her son being into things out of the norm for a young boy, in her eyes her son was perfect and thats how a mother should treat her child gay,straight,bi or trans just be happy to have them and happy if they are happy

I actually thought it was cool his own grandfather was okay with it! The older generation are mostly perceived as closed minded and it was cool to know he has always accepted Justin whilst when it came to Justin's father he didn't even want him around Justin since he knew Santos, though he showed some changes before death, had his own view of what his son should be like!

When Justin said "I'm not gay" and Marc responded with "then he's not"... I love how Justin's journey to self-disvovery was respected even though it was tough for Marc and Hilda seeing him in denial.

I love marc in this scene he sees Justin take his earlier advice and run with it. Not only that but turn the joke on them. Then the way he looks and Hilda at the end and says 'then he's not'. Just shows his support and is not trying to force it but let Justin come out on his own terms is really sweet. Also love the look between him and Betty.

I would've added something like him telling the elected king in front of everyone not expect them to date or anything because he's not his type, and then add that he's just relieved it wasn't the jock who was doing the announcements who got elected.

The brave ones are those who stand up to fight and challenge, to desmistify negative beliefs, fed by the fear that persists to be diffused from the hearts of those who suffer pressure to keep on affecting those who are different. And we stand up, by staying who we really are. And we stand up, protected by the wild tiger soul.

@FashionistoIRE The Glee episode is equally crushing because Kurt is lead to believe that some progress has been made towards acceptance and people simply don't care, but his hopes are ruined when he realises that, true to life, when people can't voice their opinions openly they do it in sneakier and much more subtle ways. How does having your life threatened make you a victimised troll exactly?
@agenttheater56 жыл бұрын
Good point - I guess I liked this scene because of the 'tacky baby's breath' part where the guys see their unoriginal prank fail before them but the 'Glee' episode does go a little deeper into the situation, people finding another less vocal way to voice their biased opinions.

@FashionistoIRE Furthermore, I'm a gay man; not a teen but I am young. Kurt's storyline is one of the few things in the world that has helped me barely hold back from committing suicide myself. His resilience, hope and drive is what helps give me strength, so please think first before you try to speak for every gay youth out there as if you know what they are all thinking and feeling because you obviously don't.

@onedaylikethis It's not like the creators of Ugly Betty own the rights to the "gay guy is voted as prom queen as a cruel joke" though. I'm sure lots of shows use similar ideas, but that's no reason to claim that they are ripping each other off.
@hardcandy98802 жыл бұрын
When I saw this episode I was like "wait? He's not? Isnt it common knowledge he is?" Then I learned about how sexual orientation and gender experession arr different. That just because someone is effeminate or likes things usually associated with the opposite sex, does not necessarily mean they are gay.

@FashionistoIRE I already told you that you were correct. You are obviously right. I need to stop foolishly responding to people like my opinion actually matters. It's difficult you'll understand because a small part of my mind keeps playing up and telling me to say something when I know that I shouldn't. I'm getting there. Soon... I know what I have to do.

@EuroMIX213 жыл бұрын
@FashionistoIRE Comparing the two scenes though, Ugly Betty's was more preachy. It seems like they neutered the "gay queen" thing by making it more about his mother while Kurt's scene really hammered home how horrible subtler forms of homophobia can be and even the strongest of people can break down. I actually like how Glee handled the concept more.

@FashionistoIRE Forget it, you are probably right. I'm wrong about everything anyway. I give up trying to have an opinion because my very existence is wrong. You are right, a character that is one of the only things that gives me any slither of hope must be wrong, "weak", whatever. If Glee were so good then it could have saved me from what I'm about to do, but it can't. Goodbye.

And naturally, they make the Bad Guys a white as they possibly dare - which considering it's Queens, they only dare cast whitISH guys as the villains. So, I guess we have to give them credit for not making the student body look like an all-blond one in North Dakota.
