I've noticed and so appreciate, your frugal habbits. So many, so called experts, on the Food Network channels, waste so much food, it's ridiculous. Makes one wonder, since they are "teaching the masses," are the food manufacturers paying them, to purposely teach us to be wasteful, so they can sell more food. It's a pet peeve of mine.

Never heard of this cake but seems very similar to a Fruit Cocktail cake. Probably much fluffier and moist with the instant pudding.

This recipe is so good; my grandmother used to make this cake during Christmas but in her church recipe book it was called simply, "Fruit Cocktail Cake." It's the same recipe, only this one, in my opinion, is better because you can use a box cake mix and no one would be the wiser! Thanks for sharing, Phyllis!
@annahuey78495 жыл бұрын
That's what my mother called it. 1.Fruit Cocktail Cake 2. Dump. Cake made with cherries, crushed pineapple and dry cake mix and pats of margarine baked on top. 3. Funny Cake made with 3 holes (wells) eggs and vinegar. 4. Dunkin Hinds Lemon cake, Box of lemon jello, bake, put holes in warm cake . Mix some fresh lemon and powdered Sugar together with couple Tablespoons milk and pour over the holes. It's tart and so good. Now they make it with orange too. 5. They just called this barf. Strawberry Jello, crushed pinespple, small curd cottage cheese. Mix together and it comes out bright pink. It's so good too.

Phyllis - the Lemon version was GREAT! I did not add any to the sauce - thought it would be a little much. My Bible classmates loved it! You are a jewel, and as always - love, love, your videos and you!

I’ve got to tell you, this is almost exactly like a cake that I learned to make from my grandmother back in the 1960s. But they didn’t call it ugly duck cake, they called it hummingbird cake. And it was her favorite. It tastes Wonderful yummy delicious! We used to make this purely from scratch, making it from I cake mix bake is going to make it a lot simpler to make. Thank you so much for sharing this delicious recipe!

Phyllis : I am so happy you're making the Ugly Duckling Cake... I first found it on a cake mix when our son was 2.. that was 39 years ago... I made it for Easter for so many years...the recipe was on a box of yellow cake mix... Over the years, I lost the composition book it was in....Maybe I'll make one for Christ birthday... Thank you woohoo very much for publishing this yummy treasure...

Looks yummy. Think, I’ll try it with crushed pineapple like a “Do Nothing “/“Texas Tornado” cake.
@Vera49625 жыл бұрын
I use to make a similar cake from scratch but it looked dark like the Texas Tornado cake with German Chocolate icing. It won First Prize and beat out a Lady Baltimore cake baked by a competitor who thought it would be sure to win. It was called a Fruit Cocktail cake and I used a mixer to cut up the fruit cocktail that may have made the cake darker.
