Maybe one of these days you might come across a '60s DAF with the Variomatic flat-belt CVTs...yes, CVTs...there are two of them, each of them driving one of the rear wheels.

I almost bought one about 20 years ago. It was a Volvo branded d AF sitting in a junkyard here in Southwest Portland

My grandma used to own one of those, a bright red DAF 33 with tail fins.

They go in reverse just as fast as forward, in the 80's they raced with those in reverse. There are videos of it here on KZbin, look for achteruitrijraces 😁

@paulterhaar4862 Sounds a bit like the Messerschmitt KR200 which could be started in reverse and you have six speeds (if I remember right) in reverse- those were also used in reverse racing.

Pull the wheels and look first at the brakes. Then open the case if necessary.

Looks like a lot of stripping to gain access to that chain. Looking forward to that!

As long as the Isetta owner keeps mistreating this Isetta, Mark will keep repairing it. One day the owner may wise up? Many people commenting are not aware that there is only a rear brake on one side of the rear axle and that it is not a differential.

At least the projects you get rolling in there look interesting and unique. That doesn't look too difficult, but how do you get parts for one of those things? Can you get a chain at the local BMW motorcycle dealership?

HAS TO BE THE CHAIN .
@2stroketurbo14 сағат бұрын
I think so too, input of chain case spins , output is locked. Supposedly it was rebuilt 1000 miles ago...
@ISETTA70014 сағат бұрын
@2stroketurbo MASTER LINK CAME LOSE . CHAIN IS NOW BUNCHED UP IN THE BOTTOM . IF IT WAS THE BRAKE OR A SEIZED BEARING , THE INPUT WOULD BE STUCK TOO .

IF I HAVE TO GUESS , WHEN THEY REBUILT IT , THE PIT THE MASTER LINK RETAINING CLIP POINTING IN THE WRONG DIRECTION .

Too bad it couldn't be converted to a toothed belt.
@delukxyКүн бұрын
A good chain will always beat a toothed belt. Looks as if the axle will come apart quite easily so if the parts needed are available it shouldn't be too complex a job. Parts may have to come from Germany though. Mark will fix it!
