Yeah I love BB and have rewatched it 6 times. Got through the first 2 seasons of BCS as they released but then stopped watching. Recently went back and binged BB again and then went on to BCS. I was absolutely blown away. BCS is absolutely incredible and in some ways, surpasses BB. It's so sad that the Breaking Bad time line is likely finished, just because Vince, Peter, and Tom are such geniuses lol

The part that really killed me in the last few episodes wasn't the emotional scenes, but just watching the monotony and feeling the sense of emptyness in Kim's lives as well as the fact that Jimmy's exploits didn't feel silly like before. They felt malicious and downright evil.

Yeah I hated how hollow Kim seemed. She never once had an opinion and let everything just wash over her. That kind of suburban monotony is horrifying to me. However I did like the hope that got introduced when she started volunteering at the free lawyer office. She seemed to come back to life in those brief scenes.

the last two episodes use spot color very effectively. the "better call saul!" ad reflected in gene's glasses and the cigarette in the prison room are the only colored things in their respective episodes, and they're parts of the past that have been lost forever.

agree, it is very heartbreaking seeing how lifeless kim's life looks like, it is as if she doesnt have soul anymore. after her confession toward howard wife, i can feel a sense of heavy burden suddenly lifted from her shoulder, that cry scene is hard to watch. and lastly that last smoke scene between jimmy and kim, is so iconic and so bitter sweet, i just cant. man this universe is so perfectly written.

On the Nacho part. I LOVE how Nacho scared Gus in the end. Gus tried to use fear as a motivator on him and it backfired on him beautifuly. Nacho was the king in that last scene of his, he could've decided Gus's fate then and there. And Gus knew it, you could see how sick he and nervous he was in that scene. And it impacted Gus's strategies even until Breaking Bad.

Also on the Nacho part, I don't see the Walter White appeal of him at all. He feels way more like season 4-5 Jesse Pinkman to me. An ordinary guy that's in the game but wants out, and turns against his boss/partner (I.E. Jesse collaborating with the DEA to arrest Walter White and Nacho switching the pills causing Hector to be paralyzed for life).

I honestly really like the scene between Kim and Jesse. Seeing the deuteragonists of their respective shows interact just feels satisfying. Plus it happens at a point where Kim has gone through her descent as a character and is ready for a fresh start, while Jesse is about to begin his descent into madness before he can get his. Plus plus it's the only scene in the entire Breaking Bad universe that takes place in a heavy downpour, as Jesse practically points out to the audience which I thought was neat. This scene may be fanservice but I'd say it's about as tasteful as fanservice gets and still has a thematic purpose to it so Vravo Bince.

Half of that's the point, this is the inevitable build up from Jimmy the aspiring lawyer trying to be better than his past, to Saul Goodman a dishonest and sleezy lawyer who enabled the horrific acts in BB. And it makes it all the more tragic that Jimmy could still slip through the cracking face of fake tan and sleezy that was Saul in those few moments in Breaking Bad that shows us there's more to these characters

@@TheShadyNoodlesShow I wouldn't say it's out of place. Jimmy built a massive image for himself, that evidently with the taxi driver, persists over half a decade since disappearing. People from all over had business with him, those other inmates likely had friends who've consulted Saul or even consulted him themselves. I think the point of the scene was to really hammer in that even if he himself wanted to rid himself of Saul Goodman (in the courtroom), that's all people knew of him know (sort of like karma for what he did to Howard's legacy) and know he has to live with that in the prison.

Nacho isn't really comparable to Walter White. If anything he's the anti Walter White, the Walter Black if you will. He's someone that is deep into the life of crime and wants nothing more than to get out of it, all for his family. He spends most of his time on the show trying to find a way to get out of that life whereas Walter wanted nothing more but to be the most powerful person in that life all for himself.

The worst is that he's not that deep in at the start, he just wants to defend himself from Tuco's psychotic behavior, but in doing so he causes even worse problems for himself. He should have just abandoned all crime and left town (I don't see why the Salamancas would care about him if he didn't say anything to the DEA), instead he tried to stay in the crime world and stay safe at the same time, which didn't work out in the end.

I feel that would be a cheap way to end things. The end of season 4 is great, no doubt, but it relies to much on shock value to be a conclusive and emotionally satisfying finale. Season 5 is the one that really delves into the characters psyches and shows how they’ve changed over the course of the show, which is why it’s a perfect finale.

I love that despite the show ending with Jimmy in prison with a life sentence, and Kim facing down financial bankruptcy, we still all kind of collectively agree it was a happy ending. Because the characters didn't get what they wanted, and that was exactly what they needed.

I rarely see people talk about Francesca and i think it’s worthwhile mentioning! Another proof of how great the writing was at tying these two shows together since she was also the comic relief on the Saul scenes on BB. Showing how she actually started enjoying her job as a bubbly receptionist when she met Jimmy and she slowly gets more and more put off by Saul’s lack of morals which turns her into someone extremely displeased by her job but that’s already in too deep. Great writing !

He went from a lawyer, to a criminal lawyer, to a criminal. Gene was supposed to be the end, yet SOMEHOW he found a way to CONTINUE down bad choice road. The path destroyed him already, and then he picked up the pieces just to smash them to bits even more. Its also notable how Jimmy got his big break defending the elderly with Sandpiper, people who were neglected and lonely. And then there he was in the second to last episode, threatening the very type of person he would have defended without hesitation all those years ago

SPOILERS: The part where it's revealed that Jimmy, Saul and Gene were actually three different people and this was a Multiverse Story the entire time really did subvert my expectation. Having the three of them team up to stop a reanimated Lalo from destroying Albuquerque felt a little bit forced but in the end it all was worth it. 100/10

I love how the end of this show was basically the inverse of breaking bad. both shows end with the protagonists crimes catching up to them, but Walter white admits he enjoyed them, that he was ultimately a selfish person hiding behind excuses. meanwhile jimmy not only owns up to his mistakes but proves that he can love someone selflessly, in contrast to Walter who always had an aspect of needing to get something out of his relationships. And I love how it's open ended conclusion also managed to be satisfying. endings like that often run the risk of feeling like a cop out, but I feel they did it perfectly. things didn't get better, but there is the potential for them to get better. Kim didn't regain her old hairstyle and jimmy's world didn't go back into color. too much has changed. but when that lighter is lit, it's in color. there is hope, they've made amends and now they can continue forward, whatever that future may hold.

We would see how Jimmy would go out of his way to take care of Chuck because he was family. They both got exactly what they deserved. There is hope for Jimmy. He deserves to be in prison, but he doesn't seem to suffer there and spends the last moments with the love of his life, Kim. For Walter, there never was hope, that's his motor for the whole show. He must and deserves to die. But his last moments are also peaceful and spend with the his only true love, his chemistry.

Honestly, the "i trusted you" moment was the climax of the character. He had to choose right then whether he would continue to "break bad" and commit murder, or retract into a previous version of himself. Imagine if he had gone through with it. We would all be despising him rather than weeping in grief for the loss of saul or the joy in Jimmy's return. The fact that he chose redemption was a heroic act, saving himself from himself so to speak

That was refreshing and satisfying for me mostly because of 2 reasons: 1) never before we had seen Saul come even CLOSE to murdering someone, let alone the someone being an old innocent lady. Him doing that would be waaaay out of character and just to add shock value and make us despise him; 2) it was enough to watch ONE main character that was an asshole almost from the start. Walter White is IMHO one of the most despicable characters even written and I don't think he's "interesting" at all, he, from day 1, was just a little man with a big brain. I didn't want it to repeat again and, in the last second, hating on a character I thoroughly enjoyed watching for so many years. They did what was the best thing they could do with the ending .

The ending was the exact opposite of what I was hoping for. I wanted Jimmy and Kim to find each other again and be together forever somewhere far away, because I wanted them to be happy. But the way the actual ending was written and shot... man, it left me feeling like I got the happy ending I wanted. Just because of how at peace both Jimmy and Kim finally looked. Jimmy going to prison feels like the most satisfying conclusion. The antagonists we’ve seen- the cartels, Gus, Walt- have all “gotten away with it” in the name of the law. None of them ever did time, they died before they faced any legal repercussions. It feels right that the situation involving the lawyer is the only one where some justice for this catastrophic operation is finally served.

I found the ending absolutely not satisfying. I hate that self-punishment trope. Jimmy had a chance to start clean after these 7 years of prison, but instead he chose to stay in the criminal world for life - just because he felt regrets and guilt. Instead of doing anything good with his life, at the end all he became is a celebrity among the imprisoned. There were no sacrifice here. If only his confession would help Kim in some way or somehow repay for the evil he had done. But no, he just give up.

Honestly its impressive how the show actually managed to make the "two worlds collide" moment actually effectively shocking, considering it's a pretty big trope in most stories about people leading double lives. Usually its like yeah okay, a criminal rival gang has the main character's wife held hostage, saw that coming, but the way they actually manage to make those two worlds feel so seperate without suspending disbelief is amazing, and the twist just hits hard because of that.

One of the reasons that I love the final episode so much is that they gave closure to 2 other incredibly important characters other than Jimmy and Kim. Mike’s scene with Nacho’s dad in 609 is great and shows how far he’s fallen (the line nachos death says about killing someone being ‘revenge’, not ‘justice’) truly completes Mike’s path to where he is in Breaking Bad but you don’t really have a gratifying final moment of reflection from him due to how sudden his death is. Having Mike say his biggest regret is taking his first bribe is a perfect send-off for such a tragic character. Taking his first bribe first broke him for his son, led to his son’s death and also started him down the path of crime and really was his ‘bad choice road’. A perfect full circle. Another character who had perfect closure is Marie. I didn’t expect it at all but for her to speak about Hank to Saul the way she did in that scene was not only moving, but was a great connective tissue that to me makes the final episode of the show not only a perfect conclusion to Saul but a perfect conclusion to the BB/BCS franchise as a whole. Then when Saul/Jimmy finally tells the truth and confesses everything, Marie being at the trial is also perfect as she gets to see legal justice be done to Saul. It’s great that they focussed on the victims of everything Jimmy/Saul/Gene has been involved with in both shows in the final few episodes of BCS. BB having its focussed storyline meant it primarily focussed on Walt’s central issues (his family, the men who killed Hank, Jesse pinkman and his money) but BCS is able to take its time with every major victim of all the events that happen in both shows. Bit of a long comment but man I love this show and BB. We may never see any shows that come close to these in the future. They complement each other so well and also are excellent in their own right.

Mike's scene with Nacho is genius. It was so weird watching Mike doing everything in his power to avoid pulling the trigger after seeing that methodical killing machine in Breaking Bad, but since the day he killed Werner, he kept getting only worse and blaming himself for all of the actions that took him there. The scene with Nacho's dad perfectly sums up how an actual good person would react to that totally messed up situation, we oftenly forget that it's not actually right to kill the criminals because _they deserve it,_ so when we see Mike "agreeing" with him but incapable of taking a turn in his life, we can see his character arc is complete and he is truly the Mike we watched in the original series

The last six episodes were my first time watching a show as each episode came out (I got onto the show a few months before in anticipation of it ending) and to get the character of Saul Goodman re-contextualized in a tragic light week by week discussing it and reading up theories was an incredibly fun experience! Overall, I'd say that I prefer Breaking Bad as it's greater emphasis on the thriller elements are more appealing, but I was equally as invested in the characters between both shows. Both have some pretty incredible highs!

It is incredible that Vince nailed the finales on 2 freakin shows. TWO! The odds were way against him. Boy, how much pressure will be on Vince if he does another series? I wish him nothing but the best. It truly feels like a miracle when the end of the series is loved by at least 75 to 90% of the fans. This was an awesome show!

I mean, BCS was Peter Gould's brainchild and people give Gilligan most of the credit for the writing even though he stopped being a showrunner a long while ago... Despite that, his writing and directing is still superb across 3 different decades, so there's no reason to say that he doesn't deserve a good amount of credit when he created this world. Same with the respect that we should give to the other writers and directors who crafted their own masterful episodes in this series.

I loved chuck, and I was so glad when Jimmy brought him up and confessed his guilt in the courtroom about it. And the scene with chuck to me is where jimmy would travel back to, and it’s just a day where he chose not to have a conversation with chuck, when chuck actively wanted him to stay. It’s so great, and simple, but so much in that simplicity. Chuck was one of the best characters on the show. To me that jimmy - chuck relationship is the core of the show and to lose that half way through the show took balls of the BCS team but they pull it off and it works

I have yet to see the rest of BCS, but I never understood the thought that BB should have ended after Gus’ death. The show at its centre is about Walt’s transformation into a villain, not just simply him killing someone who was at the time more powerful than him.

I don't necessarily think that BB should have ended after season 4 because I think that there were really powerful and necessary scenes (like the ones mentioned in the video), but there were some ways in which S5 of BB felt weird to me because of the fact that Gus was already dead. While it's true that Gus was someone who was more powerful than Walt at the time, I really don't think he was *just* someone who was more powerful. Even before I saw BCS, Gus really felt like this powerful threat and all-encompassing force who had a lot of character traits that were unexpected and unlike the other antagonists. Seeing Gus go down was incredibly climactic and having S5 just introduce so many new characters we hadn't seen before felt less satisfying, even if it was realistic in terms of the scope of the show. That said, I agree with you that BB should not have ended in a "Walt vs. [insert antagonist here]" story because that's not really what the show is about, and ironically, if Gus were a worse-written character, I probably wouldn't feel as strongly. Even with these opinions though, I really don't know how I would write BB differently since the ending of both BB and BCS really do a good job of tying up the loose ends both plot wise and with their characters.

Walt was struggling with trying to get money for his family after he passed while falling deeper and deeper into the criminal underworld, and he dies eliminating the people that nearly broke him while also knowing that money would eventually reach his family. Jesse was struggling with trying to get away from his criminal life after getting dragged in by Walt, and his story ends with him finally getting out after all of his hardship. Jimmy struggled with his identity crisis and his slow deterioration into his Saul Goodman persona, and his story ends with him owning up to his mistakes and finally coming forward with all the terrible things he’s done. All three of the main characters in this universe were in very different situations by the end of their stories and yet all three of their endings are extremely satisfying and fitting of their characters, which I love.

I truly think that Jimmy's court scene is the perfect close for the show. I initially thought that Jimmy was going to somehow screw Kim over, he had gotten the sentence that he asked for (with even the ice cream XD) Yet with all of that, he instead chose to throw away the Slippin' Jimmy/Saul Goodman persona and he finally admitted to everything that he did knowing full well that if he confessed that he would be going away for a long time, if not forever. Which ended up happening. Instead of running Jimmy faced himself and his actions not as Saul Goodman or Gene Takavic, but as himself Truly an amazing conclusion.

To be honest I thought that the show had built Gene/Saul’s immorality so strongly by the end that it felt kind of cheap that Jimmy could just suddenly revive. It kind of felt rushed, and I think that it lacked the long, subtle, and admittedly glacial character development that the entire rest of the show was built on. Jimmy’s revival just came so far out of nowhere by that point that his redemption felt sort of worthless.

@@samuelkomay8058 i sorta thought the same but i rewatched recently, i think what set the reckoning in motion was at the end of the penultimate episode when Marion says "i trusted you". notice how Gene kept getting closer and closer until she says that, it seems to touch upon something deeper within him. he's got this sorta...stunned look on his face and he starts to ease up, letting go of the LifeAlert, before Marion makes the call and he goes on the lam. in the finale, JMM learns about Kim's confession, and that she's basically letting the civil lawsuit happen; i think there's also a detail that clues him into realizing that Kim confessed not to screw him over, but to atone for what she did, but i don't remember it. whenever we see him "confess" in the show, it's almost always a ploy; the season 4 finale bar speech, his breakdown with the security guard in 6x10 "Nippy", etc. i think it's there where he learns confession isn't just a tactic to screw someone else ever. when Oakley comes back from the bathroom, he suddenly says he has something that involves Kim, thus getting her into the court where he can confess too this is my interpretation tho

I think that a better way of thinking about it for me is less of a full redemption, but more a final cry to relieve his conscience. If he had taken the sentence, he likely wouldn't be able to live with himself, and he probably would never have talked to Kim again. This was a chance for him to be able to live with himself and talk to Kim for one last time. It's still weird for me because Jimmy's confession in the end isn't doing anything positively for anyone, it's really just hurting himself, but I think that I see that as more him doing what he believes he needs to do rather than some sort of optimal choice in the end.

The last shot of the show was perfect cause it circles back to the ending of season 4. After Jimmy gives his speech and reveals to Kim that he lied the camera zooms out and they are further away from each other, and when Jimmy went to go sign his new name Kim stand there and the wall blocks her. At the end, Kim leaves and the wall blocks Jimmy. It’s brilliant, and shows they thought of every single frame of this show.

Skyler in the other hand just wanted to protect her family against the drug kingpin, murderer (and even implied rapist) that her husband became. Chuck is practically a villain against Jimmy and they both did really awful things to each other, while Skyler is a legit victim of Walt. They are not comparable at all.

The finale might be more satisfying to me than the BB, it’s something about Saul that feels so cathartic. Walt, Jimmy and Jesse all were satisfied with their endings to. Walt died with a faint smile knowing he did what a had to do before he died. Jesse drove away knowing he can start over and Jimmy was content with going to jail knowing he confessed to his crimes and restored his relationship with Kim.

i have a theory that nacho was written as if he was a mix of jesse and walter. he's a normal person who gets trapped in the world of drugs. (like jesse) he takes control and thrives in it. (waltuh). he tries to escape but people dont let him (jesse). he then gets manipulated by gus (jesse and kinda walter). and when he finally goes out he acts like walter and jesse would and calls everyone sacks of shit

The, I think the moment Jimmy truly died is when Chuck died after leaving Jimmy on such a mean spirited note. If Chuck had swallowed his malice for his own brother, Jimmy would have been a perfectly fine elder lawyer with a corner window office.

a thing about walter, as interesting as he was, he was never more interesting than jimmy, they always mention his past but we never see it, for jimmy we see him and chuck develop this complex relationship, jimmy had way more interesting schemes than walter did in the show (that he also participated in and didn't just order over the phone) , just watching saul make his own terms so comfortable that he lowered down 122 years to 7 years (with good behaviour probably even 3 years) is alot more interesting than anything any character has done in the show, he pretty much could get away with it all. and to see him wake up and start facing consequences for his actions unlike walt who just kept going deeper and deeper and lacked any control over his transformation into this monster, saul was still jimmy on the inside and he let marion live just because he didn't have it in him to hurt or kill her for his survival (at least jimmy's)

the final scene with gus just broke my heart. the way it changed my view of the character from a monstrous sociopathic drug lord to a emotionally dead tragic man who was forced to use his genius for evil by exterior circumstances. hes one of the only characters who is not self destructive like saul or walt. imo hes the most tragic brba or bcs character just from that one scene.

hmm i respectfully disagree, i think that scene emphasized gus’ self destructiveness even more. he could have chosen a life where he could find new love, a new life. los pollos hermanos was already such a popular food chain. he could have made a good life and good money off that, he could have kept talking with the waiter he was into. But instead he literally walked away to chase revenge down, which got him crossing paths with walter white, leading to his demise. his destruction came in the form of walter white but it was still self-made and one that was a long time coming, all because of his hatred toward the salamancas

@@babywasabi i think that this scene shows that yes he could've had a great life and a part of him wants that but the bigger part of him is dead inside, a walking corpse that knows that it's impossible for him to fully recover from his trauma so he uses his hatred and genius to get revenge. So yes gus is self destructive from the perspective of people like us and our conventions of success but from his point of view that won't bring him happiness and nothing will so he wants to hurt those people back

First off, I’m glad you mentioned Peter Gould. But Peter Gould deserves more praise over Vince in this video. Peter had more to do with this show than Vince did. I’m so glad you came around. This was the best television show I’ve ever seen. One of the only modern Shakespearian tragedies I can think of. These characters have been with me for 7 years, and now they’re gone. This is the first time I’ve ever watched a show’s every new episode the day it came out. This ending will stick with me for a long time. I’m so happy I got to experience this story as it went. I still stand by my opinion that Better Call Saul is the superior show, and I’m glad you can now understand why people can have this opinion.

Even as the show was ramping up, one thing always stuck out - in BrBa it never feels like Mike and Jimmy had this rich backstory together. I thought there was no way they could make that believeable. But by the show’s end, it fits perfectly. Mike is disappointed with who Jimmy became. With Howard’s death, and the show makes it seem like saul and Mike work a lot together behind the scenes. So now their distance in Breaking Bad makes total sense

i personally don't think chuck is a bad person, only flawed, just as flawed as jimmy. the two's actions and sabotages to each other are pretty similar, once you look at it again. chuck is dismissive of jimmy becoming a lawyer, and activly sabotages him, but jimmy dismisses chucks mental state getting better, and activly sabotages it, even to the point where chuck commits suicide. if either of the mcgill brothers were more honest with each other, or themselves for that matter, the story would have gone a different way

And really was Chuck ever wrong? Yea he was a self righteous lil prick about it all. But Jimmy never could stop himself. Jimmy did hurt everyone around him. If Jimmy had never become a lawyer, ultimately many people would still be alive. If Chuck had been more honest about these fears instead of lying and all the deceit, maybe he could have stopped his brother from that terrible path.
