Always in awe of these incredible machines. Love watching them fly over my house towards the local base. My son's been an Army Black Hawk pilot instructor since 2010 with several deployments. It takes a toll on the body after more than a decade. Great video!

Old Army. I've been on Hueys and Chinooks but the Blackhawk is after my time! I'd love to experence a flight in one. My scariest flight was on Okinawa in 72. Typhoon Rita was coming back for a second hit on the island and my team had to go to the north end of the island to recover some high $$ signals equipment off towers used for Vietnam comms. Conditions were marginal at the best but it had to be done. I could see the altimeter and it was doing up to 500 ft drops and climbs!!The pilots looked like they were playing drums they were so playing those collectives! The 2nd Lt next to me turned greener than our uniforms and hurled! I watched it come out hang then return and soaked his ass! Pilot had us open the door so the rain could wash some of it out of the AC!! There Is NO rollercoaster built that can imitate that flight that I have found yet OR the climb up a metal tower that was twisting like a shoebox! When you get back ya gotta pull some strings and take me flying on one!!

Compared to a Huey, the Blackhawk sounds like a Tin Lizzie. Not a sound that instills confidence. As a former WO Huey pilot in 68-70, I've often held that when the last Blackhawk is ferried to the boneyard the crew will fly back in a Huey.

Seeing people walk around so much inside the rotor arc feels weird to me. In the Navy we don't walk to the rear any further than the APU exhaust while it's running and there is a plane director in front of the aircraft at all times who limits people entering, exiting, or walking inside the rotor arc.

@williammorgan8786

don't know why no one answered you, hawk has 5 driveshaft sections connected by couplings, intermediate gearbox and tail rotor gearbox, similar to a huey. i was a huey guy, we were getting in the hawks to replace the hueys, i got out later and never transitioned over to the black hawk. some of us teased the hawk guys, we had 2 names for the hawks, land darts and crash hawks. i would not fly on one for a long time. then one hot summer day i had no choice, best ride i ever had. fast, cool, and so smooth, they are good air planes. but i always will have a big soft spot for the old huey. first flew on a huey in '67 in 'Nam when i was 19, i guess we all were full of piss and vinegar back then. the huey had nicknames too, a hog or a slug. good luck to you. old vet.
