UJK Precision Grooving Jig - Product Overview

This beautifully engineered piece of equipment allows you to cut grooves, dadoes (through or stopped) and rectangular cutouts. It offers far greater accuracy and precision than previously possible.
Primarily designed for use with a UJK Progrip Clamp, the UJK Technology Precision Grooving Jig offers unrivalled functionality. It will run on any suitable straight edge between 10mm and 16mm thick and 45mm to 55mm wide. The only other equipment required is a router fitted with a 30mm guide bush. After setting up the jig, the router and guide bush fit into the 30mm aperture and cutting can proceed.
The jig glides exceptionally smoothly along the clamp. The clamp housing has two bearings on one side and a low friction plate on the other. A lockable adjusting screw moves the low friction plate, to remove any play between the jig and clamp.
A domed lens with a scale and cross hairs allow you to position the jig precisely both in relation to the scale on the Progrip clamp and in relation to a line marked on your workpiece. For greater precision a vernier scale with a micro adjuster allows you to set the jig with an accuracy of 0.1mm. If you wish to cut a groove wider than the cutter, the scale and threaded adjustment provide the necessary control for the second pass. If after the first cut the groove is too narrow, you can always use the micro adjuster to shift it a smidgen for a second pass.
When cutting an aperture the jig allows the same precision. It allows a crosscut length of up to 100mm and enables you to cut all four sides in one go. Deep cuts will obviously require more than one pass.

This a cool tool. I think this is easier to use than the Festool unit that allows you to rout rectangular shapes. This item can do more than that. Something I will have to look a closer look at.

There is critical flaw with this jig that makes it unfit for purpose and that is even revealed accidentally in the video. After the "50mm" square is cut a square with ruler is used to check for square and it reveals that the square is actually ~62mm (5:22 155 - 93 = 62). That is because the jig does not have any way to account for how the router actually cuts, if you set the jig for 50mm that means 50mm travel which with e.g. 12mm router bit gives you ~62mm cut. So do you simply set the jig to go from 6mm to 44mm and get 50mm? No you get ~50mm because actual size of the bit with runout is almost certainly not the same as the nominal size of the bit. Without having any way to take the actual cutting size into account it can only be used to cut dados where *center* of the dado is marked and the router bit you are using cuts out of the box the needed dado size exactly. Don't really need any jig for that though.

I don't work for Axminister Tools, so what I'm about to say is pure conjecture.... but what I'm thinking is that in order to correct for runout you could wrap the 30 mm collet with a layer of aluminum tape to bring the actual size of the cutout down to exactly 50 mm. This jig requires the use of a 30 mm colllet. I've see another jig on youtube that corrects for this difference in that way. I don't have many tools or jigs yet because I'm just starting woodworking as a hobby. I've been wanting to get into it for over a decade. I finally got a Festool Domino last week, but I still haven't used it. In the planning stage of so many things. It's a upgrade from my DowellMax

Brilliant jig, I homebrewed something like this a few years back for a job I was doing but it was only to make dados, this jig will do so much more. Hopefully it will be available in the USA soon. I'd like to try it out.

track and router adaptor job done, no need for this. makita sell a track for £45 and adaptor piece is around £27 just hook upto your router and draw a few pencil lines then plunge and off you go.
