Hey Sean - I would absolutely agree with you - although in my set-up I didn't go as far as you in getting the cast iron top. I stuck with the Melamine faced Birch Plywood one which has performed well with no sagging over the 2 years I've had it. While others may point out similarities between the UJK kit and other makes, what is important to understand is that Axminster have stood by this design/kit/accessories for a good while and getting replacement parts or simply upgrading bits as you go is perfectly possible. I think the good design PLUS excellent support and service from Axminster is the key differentiator.

It struck me during the vid that in North America we say elevator and in the UK you call it a lift, but for routers, we call it a lift and you call it an elevator. Either way, it's great to see you are doing so well for yourself, keep it up and you videos are great, keep them coming!

Sean, just my opinion to add to the mix. I enjoyed the video, loved the router table and your explanation was terrific. Great camera work too. My only 'constructive critisizm' would be the audio. The balance between voice and music was way off for those of us with advancing years. We neither have the audio acuity to pick out quiet voices, nor do we have the tolerance of loud music. I was having to adjust the volume by large amounts every time you switched from voice to music and vice versa. Other than that you have shown clear aptitude for this sort of video and I look forward to more of your work.

True. Recent research shows that what we lose is in the mind rather than the mechanics. Our brains lose an ability to filter the sounds our ears are picking up. The subsequent extra effort to extract meaning from the jumble of unfiltered sounds has two effects, it's hard and unpleasant, plus our brains start making assumptions and assign their own meaning which may be at odds with what the person speaking to us actually said. Hence, my wife and daughter frustrated at how I mishear (rather than not hear) what they say.

Its an awesome table but for the money you might as well buy a spindle moulder. A router table is in essence a ghetto spindle moulder for small projects anyway. Once you start needing cast iron tops and high precision you might as well go pro and get a spindle moulder that also takes router bits.

Has your intro gone, Sean? You had one of the best intros👌 This is an interesting video, Sean. It’s a lot of money, but I wouldn’t say it’s expensive, because to me, that would imply that it’s not good quality, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. I am a little surprised that the stop block on the mitre fence, when positioned in its “stop”, doesn’t appear to meet the fence, but sticks out a little bit. Is this normal? Anyway, it looks a great bit of kit and no doubt we’ll see a future video where you build a beautiful cabinet around the bottom of the table and probably build an incredible handle to replace the plastic one on the mitre fence too. Thanks for sharing and have a good’un.
@SeanEvelegh
@SeanEvelegh 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Chris, don't worry the intro hasn't gone, I just didn't put it in this video. Glad you liked the tool and the video. A benefit of having the stop lifted away from the fence, means it won't interfere with the furry edge on a saw kerf made by the previous cut, I hope that makes sense. It basically allows the workpiece to be butted right up against the stop, instead of having some sawdust build up in the corner, slightly pushing the workpiece away from the stop. Over all you should get a more accurate measurement.

Hi Sean, great video again. Enjoying watching your workshop grow, as your work is top notch! How do you find the router table for larger work? I’m looking at upgrading mine, and find the limitation being not only with the table and accuracy of the fence, but with the router cutters for exterior door mouldings etc. I’ve found that most of the guys doing this on a larger scale use a spindle moulder, but I like you have limited space (and cash)! Have you had much experience with this?
@architect-les248

Hi Sean, I too have the UJK with SS table and router lift. I have been having issues with this recently, particularly when I fit the Axminster collet extension for using with 1/4inch router cutters. The router spins (out of control) and the extension bit slackens and wobbles. I have degreased it, bought a new 1/2inch collet (Axminster recommended this )and made sure everything is tight but it keeps happening ,is dangerous in my opinion, and has damaged the UJK fence each side of the cutter. Have you experienced anything similar? I think Peter Parfitt may have done as he seemed to revert to a Festool table router after reviewing the UJK.....
@SeanEvelegh
@SeanEvelegh Жыл бұрын
Hey mate, I know what you are talking about. That wobble can be caused by the speed being to high or router not being to wide or tall. I actually don’t use the extension anymore, I find the router table works perfectly fine without it, I just angle my spanner and put one arm under the table to push the collet lock in, to change the router bits

Nice kit. What I can’t understand is why router manufacturers don’t follow Triton’s lead - I have a Triton TRA001 which can be mounted in a table and comes with a crank that winds the router up and down from above. No need for an over engineered, expensive ‘elevator’. Just sayin’🤓
@SeanEvelegh
@SeanEvelegh 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Brendan, thanks for watching. I understand what you're saying, the trend router has this feature as well. However there is a limit on how far you can plunge the triton router, as it interferes with the spindle lock.
@brendangallagher732
@brendangallagher732 3 жыл бұрын
@@SeanEvelegh Hi Sean I didn’t know that about the Trend. However, I still can’t see how shelling out £350 for a lift would make any significant difference given what one would normally do on a table router, especially when a much more elegant solution is already available. I would say that any advantages would be marginal to say the least. Really enjoy your vids - good detail, well filmed. 👍

Is it a very good router table? I’m quite prepared to accept your rating of it Is it the best router table on the market regardless of cost? Perhaps - but you would really need to test a number for a period of time to justify your title. However, I accept that a title such as “very good” is not going to “excite” as much as “the best” given the unfortunate nature of YT. I’ve got an Incra with all the extras. Is it good? Is it very good? Is it without issues for me? No. Everybody will work a different way and want different things from each piece of equipment. For my style, the dust extraction is not brilliant; the fence setting with its micro adjuster and the use of movable tape measure is extremely good.
