The van drivers impatience is primarily the root cause of this conflict but the bus driver cannot be completely absolved of any blame. The highway code does stipulate "mirror; signal; manoeuvre". If the bus driver had looked in his mirror first, indicated his intentions once he new his right of way was clear, and pulled out when it was safe to do so, would have also avoided this incident. Van was impatient, but bus was moving before indicators were used, so I'm guessing bus driver didn't use his mirrors either before moving off!

03:43 suddenly braking for no reason, either a brake test gone wrong but more likely a crash for cash although I would bet that they got one hell of a set of bruises out of that impact so if it was the latter they earned their compensation. Btw the comment by the video uploader is completely and totally wrong at 06:43 the Highway Code Section Rule 223 "Buses, coaches and trams." "Give priority to these vehicles when you can do so safely, especially when they signal to pull away from stops. Look out for people getting off a bus or tram and crossing the road." The van driver did not pay enough attention to the large red vehicle in front of them and was so fixated with "beat the bus" syndrome that they did not follow Rule 223, all in all no sympathy. You can normally tell when a bus is about to signal their intention to move off, most drivers now use the footbrake to hold the vehicle at the stop instead of applying the parking brake and the brake lights going off tells you that the driver is preparing to move off the stop after completing their blind spot checks.

Zebra crossings frustrate me. On one hand, pedestrians shouldn't just walk out expecting cars to immediately stop by going against the rules of physics or expecting drivers to read their minds when they do a sudden about turn to cross, but on the other, drivers should only stop to let pedestrians cross if they're able to do it safely.

I was taught to always be ready to stop whenever there are crossings or lights or any chance of a pedestrian jutting out into the road as if cars don't exist and can't kill them. The responsibility is on the driver, since they're the ones operating a big chunk of life endangering machinery. I always look way ahead and see if any people are approaching and just ease off the gas a bit. They carry on walking, I can get those few mph I slowed down back up. They decide to cross, or are waiting to by the time I arrive, then I have time and space to stop safely. You should always be able to stop safely. If you can't stop safely, you're going too fast. If you can't stop safely because someone is tailgating you, that's their problem and you should still stop. It's very easy to prove fault when you stop for a crossing and someone crashes into the back of you. It's not a valid reason not to stop.

@@mydogeatspuke is it not the responsibility of the pedestrian to make sure it’s safe to cross still…? Don’t know about you but I make sure the traffic has stopped before wandering out. Don’t fancy having a lorry in the face quite frankly. Also, if there’s a tailgating vehicle and you stop for a crossing and they crash into the back of you, you’re still flying forward whatever happens, no matter how safely you think you’ve slowed down. For the record, I live in a village where there’s multiple crossings over the main road. I always slow down at crossings if pedestrians are nearby but I’m also extremely weary of drivers who may not be paying attention.

@@bestintheworld568 I never said it wasn't up to a pedestrian to make sure it's safe to cross lol. I said it's a driver's responsibility to stop. You can't just keep going and plough through people because they didn't look lmao. Cars can stop, they're designed to stop. There is no situation where it's "not safe" to stop for a pedestrian crossing. In fact you have to stop, and if you don't and you're caught, you'll get into trouble. You can't claim that it wasn't safe to stop lol. It's just not how anything works. And no, if your brakes work then you aren't "flying" anywhere. That's why cars have brakes. The car behind you would have to be doing a significantly absurd speed to crash into a stationary vehicle and make it fly. I know, I have video of my own car being thrown through the air by a drunk driver who fell asleep and drove straight into it parked outside my house. Super fast. And if the car behind you is going that fast, you too were going that fast, because otherwise they'd have seen you stop and stopped in time. Nope. You can't blame a pedestrian for something you did. That's just not.. how anything works. If others not paying attention concerns you so much that you think the rules don't apply to you, you are allowed to hand your licence in, since you're obviously a danger to others if you refuse to follow the rules.

@@mydogeatspuke point out where I said it was okay to plough through people if they're in front of me? Otherwise I'm going to assume you refuse to see my point. Watch. The. Clip. Despite brakes being applied the car at the front and the cam car STILL went forward a good few yards. No accidents in 18 years by the way. I'm a well dangerous driver 👍

@@mydogeatspuke What would happen then if you are approaching a zebra crossing, you see pedestrians walking on the pavement with their heads buried in their phones giving no indication that they intend to use the crossing. You righfully let go of the loud pedal and reduce speed slightly by 5mph or so. Both you and the pedestrian are getting closer to the crossing and the smartphone zombie has made no eye contact with you whatsoever. Without any warning, the drone turns 90 degrees and walks straight onto the crossing without even the slightest change of speed. You are now at the point of no return, no matter how hard you stand on the brake pedal, the laws of physics dictate that you will go through the crossing wether you like it or not. By being the careful and considerate driver, you reduced the severity of the impact but the fault in this example lies entirely with the pedestrian.

Clip number 2... That section pulling into the Tesco in Batley is awful for near misses, I partially blame the awful layout but the local drivers being a special breed doesn't help

It seems quite common place now that when a driver switches on the engine their brain switches off. So much of this could have been avoided.

1:30 The sharp braking by the cammer increased the risk of rear-ending. It is better to brake early and gradually when someone is behind you.

Note that the cammer in #9 @ 3:06 DOESN’T slow down despite it stating ‘slow’ on the road. Had he, the fact that a car ahead had over-taken on a bend and was on his side of the carriageway might not have been an issue for him !

#10 - prosecute the mini for dangerous driving, deliberately engineering a collision. Prosecute idiot cammer tailgater for careless driving. To an extent it doesn't matter why the mini stopped, if the cammer wasn't a tailgating idiot they could have stopped. Both at fault, both should be prosecuted.

Busses always signal and move at the same time. But, van driver main problem here as even ifnthe bus hadn't moved the gap was questionable, its a stop not a station so with that small a gap and the chance of the bus moving, just have some patience.

There is a difference between Brake Checking someone and Tailgating. Deliberately Brake Checking is classed as Dangerous Driving under the Road Traffic Act. Dangerous driving can carry an unlimited fine and a two-year prison sentence. In the event that someone dies as a result of a brake check, the maximum sentence for causing death by dangerous driving is 14 years. Tailgating is classed as Careless Driving which could result in a fine and penalty Points

#3. No road markings, so never assume priority, if in doubt give way to the right, as priority is given, not taken! #4. OK the cyclist should have check before coming off the pavement (where he shouldn’t have been any way), but I feel the Cammer should have been more aware and anticipated better, as well as the speed in which they were driving.
