The US is an exception, it is running an annual Balance of Trade deficit of about one Trillion dollars, domestic and foreign debt amounts to about 33 Trillion dollars but through its control of gas and oil pricing, and hegemonic control of the global trading system it can - whilst the present institutional infrastructure remains in place - be subsidised by those who export goods and commodities to the US in exchange for US treasuries [which costs the US nothing but the interest payments on them, and the US can ‘roll-over’ debts]. The world has to hold substantial dollar reserves [which support the value of the dollar] in order to access the oil and gas [even though the US doesn't own all the oil and gas traded] required to fuel their economies. They cannot 'buck' the system without compromising their own economies. The US economic interest is secured by their domination of the World Bank, International Monetary Fund, International Finance Corporation and SWIFT - the International payments system based in Belgium. By their dominant presence in all those organisations the US has constructed a rule -based economic order which allows it the exorbitant privilege of running continual trade deficits, which it satisfies by issuing US treasury bonds.
@AndriyValdensius-wi8gw7 ай бұрын
The US Dollar is STILL the world reserve currency. The Fed prints as many dollars as it needs. US debt is in dollars, which it prints itself. Whether the system will continue is questionable, but there is no immediate sign it won't. It's true that the BRICS countries plus / minus Iran and Saudi were talking about introducing THEIR own mutual oil based currency as a dollar (and euro) alternative, but with the rapid collapse of Russia economically with their idiotic war, I'd say that idea is stillborn.
