They had 15m+ views are were due to start making money from the music industry and leave this cycle of violence and go legimate, like other UK rap artists such as Giggs, 67, JHus. These people are rapping about their environment, fix poverty and there wouldn’t be any drill music, they are just products of their environment. All the ban does is put them back to square 1 and gives them more of a motive to keep selling drugs and warring with rival gang members. This literally makes the situation 10x worse

Everyone's got means to make it out of council estates. I grew up in Hackney, my boys either sorted their lives out or went road. You've got guys from the same block shotting crack and other graduating from Russel group Uni's and making it. It's bullshit that you can't make it out of the blocks

But they are. obviously it's macho and provocative, but drill has always been a cry for help. Kids grow up surrounded by murders and everyone's older brother has been stabbed and they have to hold a knife to feel safe, the fear just amounts into aggression because that's the basic human reaction to living in a dangerous place. People growing up in rough hoods in London don't just coincidentally all decide to be violent, it's just a response to a bad situation. Drill is just a reflection of this

Music doesn't encourage violence. Humans are just violent. These people rapping, use music sales and concerts to fund themselves, to get out of that life. Krept and Konan just opened a restaurant for example and AM (410) just bought a property with land in his home country of Uganda. By stopping their income from music, their only option is to go back out onto the streets to steal and commit crimes to get by and that's when normal pedestrians get involved.

drill music helps the artists stay of the streets and out of drug dealing by also still fitting in its used for expression of what they're seeing. even if this genre is causing murders and increase in knife crime(which i do not believe) then banning it is going to bring all the drill rappers back on the roads which will inevitably cause more knife and gang crime

I understand and respect everyone's opinion on this platform but at the end of the day your looking at kids getting groomed for a life of drugs and violence. Allot of people would reply 'Its art, it has nothing to do with the violence', yet my younger 8- 15 year old cousins (from East London) want to glorify these people and their violent actions they brag about. 0:44 Im only surprised they didn't ban their music 3 years prior when I was in centre, listening to my friends look up to these rappers that want to praise a death of someones son.

The worst part is the women on channel 4 is saying drill isn't a problem when the definition of drill is 'defined by its dark, grim, violent, nihilistic lyrical content' 4:48 . Its not about just calling out other gangs , its about glorifying knife/acid/gun crime against others.

I agree with you a 100% but I also believe that the influence that these rappers hold on their listeners has become a crucial source of evidence when people start throwing acid on others , which I don't think parents teach their kids to do , yet they only ignore/don't notice the extreme culture of violence in their kid's music. Thanks for the comment.

Have you heard lyrics from 90s rap artists? Have you heard lyrics from 80s rock/metal/punk artists? None of that is being banned because it is a rightful freedom of expression. These young cousins you speak about have to be taught by their parents to realise these people are not giving out a PSA, they are showing you the reality of their lives. If you look at the recent episode of children react to eminem from the fine bros, you realise how kids can be taught to not do what they see in these videos, but still appreciate the art. It’s the parents’ job, a judge shouldn’t and needn’t be involved.

@mushypeasplease88726 жыл бұрын
diesel92kj1 I don't think they're banning a music genre. These particular young men have to get their lyrics passed by police censor before putting it out there. They are tied to a specific real gang identity and area in London and murderous activity that their videos also glorify and encourage. The specifics didn't come across very well in this report. There's a lot more to this particular case than appears here.

Attempting to ban a genre of music is clearly not the way to go. Look at horrorcore type music that's been around for ages for example, literally lyrics about gruesome torture and worse things (music many non-violent people enjoy, myself included). Censorship is wrong in any shape or form and will not be accepted by the public wether you agree with this type of music or not.

It's funny how people are saying "drill" music's banned, it's not, only theirs. The authorities created another way to censor people's opinions regardless of whether they rap, or not, carry a shank or mash or not etc.

Violence created drill music not the other way around. Do something about the gangs drugs and killings Around London and the drill music will stop

You're not bad if you listen to drill. Most of these people that do the drill scene have not even done most of the things they claim to in the song.

Put up prison sentences for stabbing to 25 years minimum. That will make a change to the streets

Liberty and freedom. It’s artistic expression; whatever you do is on you, stop blaming the artists.

The music is not encouraging crime, the crime is already there and the music is a expression of what's happening. All these so called "upper class" people are daft and have no clue

The people who write these laws are truly insane. Ban this music. They will still produce it. They will make it harder to identify those on it They will start speaking in more slang that you won't be able to follow. Oppression does not work. Illegal drug use still on the rise. What about movies? Horror movies? What about the junk pop music and advertising they try to brain wash the kids with that use subliminal messaging? Banning a genre of music is ridiculous

The uk not actually understanding whats going on. These people aint violent they are kids wanting to make music, the music they love.

Economy,, poverty in UK,,lack of well paid jobs,,costs going up with taxes,, and a disconnected Government totally...and you blame drill... 🙄

This hurts me. Let people use their talent and creativity to create music that reflects their thoughts and lives. UK Drill Music isn’t the problem and banning it isn’t helping solve anything.

It glamorises violence & encourages children to think it's cool & these are their role models, hundreds of kids are stabbed every year. If it was your child that was stabbed to death you would want it Banned. End of.

You man need to stop pretending drill doesn't influence violence. Just cos you like a certain drill group it doesn't mean they're not out there cutting up young black men and embarrassing their race

By the same logic we should ban films, Tv shows and video games because doing so will prevent murder. So stupid.😂😂

Stupid. literally bans freedom of speech. There has been gang crime for decades before Drill came into the scene, how does music justify murder and violence? sure is can depict such but so do movies such as rambo which glorify warfare yet at no point did it influence the millions of people watching to shoot down helicopters. Using such absurd reasons only demonises how ignorant we are on the matter of the crime in our city. Drill Music has also been a career path where it invites youths into the music industry which also diverges them from crime on the street by depicting crime in lyrics. Proof of this is one of the most popular artists Giggs being an ex gang member furthering his path by perusing music. Influence is inevitable, Ignorance is avoidable.

If your son goes and stabs someone after listening to drill, the music isn't to blame the parents are. If your kids don't know the difference between music and reality, then music isn't to blame
