Idk if this helps but for me I try link my macro arguments to the macro objectives. I make a point then work my way through on how it impacts AD/AS that usually tells us economic growth or our inflation and then you may predict unemployment and BoP from that graph. But if you guys have any other tips lmk ⬇️⬇️

Hi dal, just wondering what you meant by loosening and tightening labour force?
@yvielaker933
@yvielaker933 Жыл бұрын
I think it means that there are not as many vacant jobs and there are more people looking for jobs, as tightening of the labour market means there are plentiful vacant jobs and scarce available workers :)

17:14 wouldn't higher interest rates help supply side inflation by encouraging saving using the pound in the forex market which would strengthen the pound and make imports cheaper?
@suvvywuvvy
@suvvywuvvy Жыл бұрын
if you mean higher relative interest rates increase the demand for the pound in international markets, thus strengthening the pound then yes (as it makes imports and thus imported capital cheaper, decreasing costs of production). I assume though that this effect would be less potent than demand-side inflationary pressure as consumer and investment spending are directly reduced by higher interest rates (variable rate loan repayments and cost of borrowing hikes). This is just my take as a fellow student though, take with a heaping of salt.
@reckasorushound4512
@reckasorushound4512 Жыл бұрын
not really since the supply side inflation is mainly driven by oil and energy which was caused by the rapid increase for demand post pandemic and the limited supply ( excess demand) and then two products are pretty much needs so people will buy them regardless of interest rates and etc
@suvvywuvvy
@suvvywuvvy Жыл бұрын
@@reckasorushound4512 ur right in that oil and energy have become essential resources in the production of almost anything and shocks in their supply will certainly the price level more but ceteris paribus an increase in interest rates can very much 'help' (as the original commenter said) to alleviate inflation. This is especially so in more interdependent and globalized economies that trade with eachother for resources (as most economies have become these days).
@jakeconn5566
@jakeconn5566 Жыл бұрын
@@reckasorushound4512 that's true but if the pound is stronger due to greater interest rates, then wouldn't all goods imported irrespective of demand be cheaper due to more preferable exchange rates?
@MCart1215
@MCart1215 Жыл бұрын
@@jakeconn5566 In theory yes but gas is priced in dollars, which has become more expensive for the £ as the US have been mass selling. So a rise in the demand can have an effect, but likely a limited one / counteracting some of the value lost

why cant QE be used to service the budget deficit ?
@irqny8002
@irqny8002 Жыл бұрын
it can in that banks and financial institutions have more liquidity available to invest in government bonds, but it can't in that the supply of money would rise which would make the pound even more depreciated, and since the UK is already reliant on imports that would have massive inflationary side effects on top of the already high inflation rates
