As an American that enjoys overseas politics, particularly British, the result does not surprise me. First of all, people were probably terrified of Corbyn's extremism. I hope that going forward, Labour reorganizes and distances itself from such radicalism, going back to the New Labour platform more or less, in terms of economics. Second of all, people want Brexit over with. Boris ran on a strong 'get it done' message, which obviously worked.

Corbyn isn't an extremist, he might be in your eyes considering any American that calls themselves a socialist practically ends their career (Sanders being an exception). Corbyn was a genuine man, that wanted genuine change. Corbyn wasn't a radical either, the stuff he was saying wanted to help the working class. Looking at the past it’s going to be more austerity - more people on food banks and dying in poverty, while tories continue pilfering taxpayer money to buy holiday homes and yachts. NHS under threat, and we’ve lost the opportunity to have free education and an increased minimum wage. Once again the most vulnerable members of our society are going to be exploited to the benefit of the rich elite. But hey, at least Brexit is going to go through!
