I am late to the party, but I just found you yesterday 😊. You have the right idea. I do enjoy your take. You really like to understand what is being said and you feel what the artist is trying to convey. People have always given me crap because I’m the same way. I find it hard to just enjoy one portion of a song - it’s like a story being told and that includes the lyrics and music - as with this song when the band in before the last chorus. I always see that her breakdown- her tears based on her internal torment. Anyway… Unfortunately , as others have stated, this was not written about Amy’s younger sister; that is an incorrect “fact” somebody started. The guitarist in the band started writing this fictional story before joining Evanescence, but It was a group effort in regards to completing it. Having said that that however, I actually find it cool when you can write a song and it will hit the public with sometimes different emotions- different interpretations- sometimes that is point I think. Could it be based on that persons personal experiences? Maybe. What a beautiful and very emotional song nonetheless. I love Amy’s voice.

My take on the video is that he is alive, she is dead. Although Amy Lee’s character is performing the vocals, the lyrics are the words/thoughts of the bereaved man.
