See - that wasn't so bad was it! A bit of excitement in your life lets you know you're alive! :) Many years ago My boss said to me as he walked past me in the workshop "You heard of St. Tropez?" I said "yes" He said "Good, you're going there on Friday" and walked off! I ran after him into the office and he explained that the company had got it's first European contract and I was driving one of his coaches there. I explained I had never even had a passport, so he organised for me to pick one up at the Glasgow passport office on the way South and that was it! Early Friday morning left the Northern Highlands, picked up passengers in the Midlands Saturday morning then across the channel and Sunday morning I was in St. Tropez! Just me and another driver the whole way there and back again on Sunday evening. The rest is history. I loved driving, the bigger/further the better! Good memories that I often think of as a pensioner. :) Hope 2021 is a great year for you and your family Lena! xxx

@Nadia Clayton No, not brave but certainly crazy-stupid maybe! In the 80's things were very different. No speed limiters so we often hit 100mph (Volvo coaches) trying to catch ferries. Obviously this was crazy but we had little choice and I know some coaches were even faster than ours! Ridiculous distances and such a tight schedule was how companies were able to offer cheap holidays in far away places then. Glad things are different now - crazy times. xxx

Hi Nigel. I'm Dutch but living in Canada. Can you update me real quick here.... Is Ireland not a part of the EU? Since there seems to be customs check. Or has it to do with Brexit and is it because UK is no (longer) part of EU ? Since some time last year, I think.

Postcodes are used in Ireland and work with Google Maps. Curious to know why you did not use the motorway to Cork?

I was wondering the same but I thought that it was the way the video was edited. It could also have had something to do with using Google maps - they are not truck friendly! If you everyone compare a google maps route to a TomTom truck sat nav route you will often see a massive variation!

@Michael John Dennis It was pointed out that her trailer was higher than the maximum legal height in Ireland and that it was higher that the permitted height in the port tunnel. In fairness I don’t know if that trailer was only in imperial or if it had metric height on it. I have seen cases where UK drivers get confused when they meet our all metric system. These illegal trailers should ultimately be stopped leaving the port - I’ve seen UK drivers having to make very strange detours around Dublin and also hitting bridges because they are too high overall. I saw a UK truck hit a bridge on Amiens Street a while back when it should not have even been there as it was running on 6 axles. Apart from hitting the bridge that truck driver was already committing two offences.

Yes I think I was a little too tall, so my sat nav must have taken me around. Also I did edit some of the ‘boring bits’ out. Think I was travelling on m7 a lot. I use copilot alongside Google maps. For most of my route copilot but when I get closer to destination I switch back and forth not to miss the pinpoint 🤞🏻 mostly that works, prior to getting to the actual place I also tend to get out and talk to people who work there to ensure I’m going in the right entrance etc 😆

@@LenaTrucker Personally I’d use something like the TomTom Go 520 Professional to guide me. I’ve never used Copilot but I’ve heard it’s often outdated and can often bring you awkward ways! Looking at how you came back to Dublin Port I’m guessing you came off the M50 at J4 Ballymun as you came into town through Phibsboro down to Doyle’s Corner. Had you gone on to the next junction and took the R139 over to Clarehall and then came down the Malahide Road it would have been a lot easier and way more truck friendly to get to the Port. If you are coming over again just make sure they give you the right trailer and a fuel card that can be used here. You won’t find an Esso or BP in Ireland 😉

Once you have that Irish 'Eircode' number, you put int into Google for your Destination and the Company address pops up... and google will take you to that exact Eircode Location... those 'Services' locations along the M 7 /M8 would also be on Google too... Some of the Circle K 'Express' stations are open 24 /7... [ for your Bosses Eircode have a App so the they can type in the Company Name Address with the exact , Eircode then pops up...]

Whow! That was a long video, but very exciting and stressful at times. I don’t think I could drive for all those hours and handle the stress. It’s good you have someone helpful on the end of the phone - great team work. I would also be worried where to find a loo when stuck at places that are closed. I guess you find away when you’re doing this all the time. Next time you have a sea crossing take travel sickness tablets. They work and you can eat to sustain your energy 👍

Here's a tip for you. Don't follow your satnav onto an Irish country lane. They are tough work even for a car let alone an HGV. Just ignore the satnav and stick to the main road. The satnav will recalculate. Satnavs don't know Irish roads

I drove Class 1 in the UK and Europe. Been living in Canada now for 22 years and maybe going back to it at 57 to help a friend out. The tractor units here are 30 years behind Europe. All conventional rigs. Such a waste of space. Watching this it seems the UK and Ireland still allow on street parking on A roads! What a huge pain in the butt. Does not happen here. Anyway good job with the ferries. I'm on Vancouver island so am on ferries all the time. But only 90 mins each way. Keep up the good work. You're doing just great. Pls give info on vehicle a bit more if you can. All the best from Canada.

@@LenaTrucker You should make the move.....Lena! Ice Roads Trucker.......Actually have a friend that runs that stuff. Too scary for me I think........as for wages here I think a Class 1 driver would earn $35 Hr locally but if you go cross country and the US it's easy to make $150/$200K a year. That being said just yesterday getting a Class 1 just became a whole lot more expensive. New legislation with minimum 150 Hrs instruction which is at $100 Hr......so $15K plus lessons and test so likely $17.5K to get a Class 1 now. At that money for training they have made Class 1 a very skilled trade. So will have to pay skilled wages for drivers. I can see Class 1 drivers making close to $50Hr in the near future. Drivers here and in the UK have not been paid enough for like ever. It's coming back to bite the greedy trucking companies in the butt now.

Why did you or probably your boss, not put you on the Swansea to cork ferry ? When you were in cork , you were 20/25 miles from ringaskiddy , where the ferry from Swansea docks . The town nearest to this is Cobh, and cobh harbour is where the titanic sailed from

My first overseas trip out of the UK back in 1973 was to Cork. I've been back since then and like it a lot. I took the Holyhead - Dublin ferry a couple of years ago on a rail/sail ticket to Cork from England. I am subscribed to your channel and have to say that this is the best video I have seen from you. Hi Lena, I watched you video on your trip to Ireland and noticed that you were ill on the way over. I have suffered also in the past and my neighbor suggested some tablets she uses that are sold on cruise ships. They are called Avomine 25mg tablets and I can confirm that on a trip across the English Channel to Guernsey the ship was in a really bad shape tossing and rolling with crockery flying around the cafeteria. People were being ill but I didn't feel anything and I am the worst person for being ill on a ship. If you do the trip again I can thoroughly recommend you buy a pack before you go. There is no need to starve before you go either. Happy sailing,

I didn’t, but i tried, but there’s no boat setting on my truck- have looked, had that Russian guy look (as he uses it all the time) may be my truck not built for boats 🙈 did put it on a break tho ✌🏼

I went sight seeing down the Liffey on my first visit. When I told a driver what I'd done, he said there's a weight limit down there, you'll get fined but I never heard a thing? My edit; I forgot to say well done girl! 👍🏼

Very well done lena .before you go next time you should fill your fridge and a good supply of coffee.can you read maps and a to zs that might help for you. You have done the hard bit now it might be a bit easier next time good luck on the next trip phil. It is a lot harder than it looks phil.

Lena .... with TomTom , download " MyDrive TomTom " on the phone .... The app can recognise the Irish Eircode ( postcode) and will allow you to send the information to the TomTom device .... and off ya go

Hi Lena as Irish truck driver...who does this route all the time... Why are you on the A5 this not suitable for trucks!! Don't you do map reconnaissance before starting a journey.🤣🤣🤣 A55 or A48 are the best truck route's or invest in oversize Satnav as we don't want you stuck under a low bridge in Ireland....
