I only learned of micro mouse comp's this morning watching some Asian ones. Then this came up & I can't tell you how pleased I am that Britain is engaging in such pursuits as while watching the Asian ones I was thinking, "how are we ever going to compete with these nations if our kids aren't enjoying these these cerebral/technical pursuits?" We're no where near as polished at it as they are but that doesn't matter we're new-comers to this sort of thing (I presume) & the important thing is that we're doing it now, we'll get better.

It sounds a bit cliche'd but it's not the winning it's the taking part that counts, keeps us off the streets and using the grey matter. I tried (and failed) to become a maths teacher, during my interviews I told me the interviewer that I had a passion to learn, their answer "Really, your grades aren't that good though are they" I may not be an A grade student (I'm over 40 now) but I love learning new things, much rather watch these sorts of videoes than the Kardashians, love island, or constipation street.

Also, does anyone remember techno-games in the UK. It was a robotic Olympics of sorts, really innovation, many by schools, great idea.

Those Asian comps are uni students who are programmers, the people in this vid aren't, they are just interested people. Keep in mind that all the inventions for this modern world come from the West. That's TRUE inventions, I do not mean gadgets or innovations or electronics products.

How does the car (mouse) know it has found the finish/target (cheese) area? I notice there could be a blue light at the entrance to the target area. Is the mouse detecting the blue light to know it found the target?
@MicroMouse

The mouse tracks its position in the maze all the time by measuring how far the wheels have turned, it constructs a map so it can calculate the best route. the blue light is part of the electronic timing system and is a blue laser

The applications of the micromouse and line tracing tracing tech is the future of AI driven transportation, right? We're practicing putting into place the systems necessary to automate human transportation, which leads to full networks of flying personal vehicles I hope, because we need to use more the airspace above us and alleviate traffic that is restricted to the ground. As the Earth fills with people, we're going to need more space to house them and more space to transport them with more efficiency as to reduce collision liability risk, waste of resources, and time wasted in transit.

We have been practicing for forty years and those things are still 10 years away
