This report is factually wrong. Poor research as per usual!!! The Chagos island was part of Mauritius when Mauritius was known as Ile de France under French Rule! This report suggests that Britain is the victim here! And that Mauritius is being greedy! Mauritius, in fact, wants to have total sovereign control of the entire Chagos Archipelago, including Diego Garcia!!! This means that an illegal occupier cannot act as the proprietor! Britain has to compensate Mauritius for its illegal occupation of the Chagos Archipelago for the last sixty years. And that's an important loss of earnings for Mauritius... as one German Judge rightly remarked at the Hague! The Chagossians must have the right to reside on the island of Diego Garcia itself! The issue of rent arrears (Britain does not talk about it ) is different from the leasing of Diego Garcia to America...not Britain!!! Mauritius will be quite happy, to see the back of, both the US and Britain from Diego Garcia! Britain has received more than a 4 billion USD discount, when buying arms from America at the expense of Mauritius!!! The leasing period of 200 years is certainly not to the taste of Mauritius! There are also the provisions of the Pelindaba Treaty to be considered!

But why should I and my fellow brits give any money to Mauritians? They have no power, no abilty to harm or hurt me, why would i freely give up my money to them? Their army and global significance is tiny.
