First! I think 1983 is the year the 80s really kicked into gear and a fantastic year musically. Start of that golden run between 83-85. There are some true classics in this list. Football songs were quite common in the 80s and 90s weren't they? That's low for 'Little Red Corvette' and 'Mr Roboto' as they're huge hits across the pond. Both are rather known here. 'Midnight Blue' is a mystery....a hit across Europe but not the UK. Galaxy had the first appearances by a Maltese artist in the charts with Dee Galdes. Bit of a comedown for Bonnie going to 43rd after a huge #1. Well sort of a weak follow-up, but she deserved a top 40. Too many to mention for favourites here! My stand outs are the amazing 'Church Of The Poison Mind' by Culture Club. Should have had a #1 with this! Helen Terry's backings are amazing. The timeless 'Beat It' by the King of pop Michael Jackson. The romantic 'True' by Spandau Ballet and the heartfelt 'I Guess Why They Call It The Blues' by Elton John. Very strong line-up. Also I'll say 'Dare' by The Human League is an amazing album. No bad songs. Thank you very much for this 👍👍

I didn’t realise that Hall & Oates song was a cover of a Mike Oldfield track 😮

LIttle red corvette & 1999 would be re released nearly 2 years later as a double A side and reach #2. Also I didn't know Money's too tight to mention was actually a cover.

Unlike 1982, there’s nothing in here that feels like it’s a leftover from the 1970s. It’s like 1980s music began in spring 1983 😆 I had no idea Simply Red covered ‘Money’s Too Tight To Mention’, the 1983 original is kept a lost secret

Who came first with ‘Words’? The Tremeloes or F R David? I’m guessing F R David 😊
