1986 was an excellent year for music and had to watch this one for one of my absolute faves - “Suburbia” by the Pet Shop Boys. 😍😍😍

Wow, EAV's 'Ba-Ba-Banküberfall' entered the UK charts, I would have never expected that! Thanks for the flashback! 👍

Thank you for putting these 80s songs together. There's been some that I forgot the name of and found the name of them through you. I was only 3, nearly 4 years old, when these songs were released. 80s music is my life 😊. Wish we could go back as life was so much easier back then 😊

excellent year for music keep these charts coming nice to reminisce when the charts were strong not like today better music that will stand test of time

I agree. Very few if anything nowadays will stand the test of time. Music now is very generic in many aspects. Only those artists who stick to their sound never get chart hits, because they don't fit the bill. You'd never see a big bombastic ballad like 'Who Wants To Live Forever' from this chart video make the charts or even a metal group like WASP. Even the pop music had personality like Madonna, Five Star.

Excellent work as always! BTW the band at 1:33 is THIS Mortal Coil. Cheers!

Thank you for this upload 👍 1986 a very strong year musically and a number of classics here. 'Walk Like An Egyptian' is an amazing song. A true classic. Even some of these lower ranker entries are very decent. 'True Colours' is absolutely beautiful. One of Cyndi's best. 'One Great Thing' video always reminds me of a Party Political Broadcast (election advert)! Mel & Kim absolutely amazing. EAV - one of the few Austrian acts to break the UK chart ditto with Falco. I have one absolute favourite on here 'Who Wants To Live Forever' by Queen. shame that wasn't a big hit as it's very well known. 24th was way too low. Just always makes me emotional and you feel the song. Freddie's voice absolutely amazing. Of course 'True Blue' by Madonna is a classic. probably my second favourite with a tie between Cyndi Lauper, Bangles and Pet Shop Boys for the bronze. Seriously this is a very strong list, and good helpings of pop, rock, soul-pop and the emergence of hip-hop. Even got a bit of reggae with Lovindeer and UB40. Billy Idol...God one sexy man back then. A very young Will Smith there - I didn't know Fresh Prince was that old? Nick Berry was in EastEnders as Simon Wicks. A guilty pleasure but it's not as bad people make out it is. Amazing how Stacey Q had a huge hit with her song in the US and it's very unknown here and a minor hit. Am I the only one who prefers Kylie Minogue's version of Locomotion'? That Dead or Alive track is underrated. A very good group. Pete Burns will be missed.

Heroine was the title song from the Patty Hearst inspired film Captive from 86. It flopped but was kind of interesting and The Edge gave it a great score. Starred Oliver Reed.

Let me add that 3:46 was the first release of that single and the second time did far better ( UK #8). 2:02 and 8:03 should have been definitely higher IMHO. Thanks for your endurance and passion, Francis!

Misfit was re-issued and got to number 7 in the summer of 1987,following the huge success of Down to Earth near the start of that year.

I was hoping to see (Forever) Live & Die by Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark. I’m sure that was a number 11 hit in September 1986?

Iron Maiden managed to be roundly ignored by the press, radio and TV throughout most of the 1980's so it shouldn't have surprised me that they're missing from this list as well despite spending most of the month in the singles chart. Track: Wasted Years Charted: w/e 6th September 1986. Debuted at number 24 and reached number 18 the following week. In the UK chart for 4 weeks.

The Fall were one of those bands that had something of a cult following throughout the 80's - despite not actually being that good. Predictably they had limited success, and were massively outshadowed by The Smiths, and Echo and the Bunnymen. The music critics loved them, but most of the public did not care for them much. Mark E Smith was abit of a 'marmite' figure (even more so than Morrissey) - you either loved him or hated him. I always found him abit of an obnoxious twat with a massive chip on his shoulder.
