Welcome to our Shetland Isles Tour 2023 with myself and fellow riders from our group Motorrad Madness.
We're at the infamous
Saxavord UK Space Port launch pad Fredo at Saxavord on the Isle of Unst
This is where the UK Government In 1940 built a Military Radar Station which was erected to monitor German War activities.
In 1956 construction of a new radar station, on the same site as that which had been used by the Navy, was begun by the RAF this is the site that this video footage displays.
Today's this site due to it's remoteness has again been used to launch privately owned rockets into space.
These launches are planned to happen throughout 2024 with the vg news a licence has been issued to allow up to 300 flights per year.
We enjoyed our tour of the site and look forward to the seeing some launches very soon.

How did you get such access with your bikes even on the launch pad?!. They stopped a charity walking man from going around the coast there last year which was a bit heavy handed :( .

Hi there, thanks for watching my video and leaving me a comment. Not long prior to our visit to the site all the main media broadcasters had been up and filmed it. Perhaps that was the reason as in the "secret" was now out... 🤔 C.B

HI, I was on this trip with The Caledonia Biker. We were in 'The Final Checkout Cafe' on Unst and by chance we met with the Saxavord construction site manager who was doing his shopping. After a discussion about our biking trip, he invited us to visit the Spaceport for a guided tour.👍

@@red-squirrel-man Ah, I see. I believe you can now drive down the road as the actual site areas are fenced off and apparently the intention is to allow access to the Lamba Ness headland as before. Mind you, the whole project is starting to look like a white elephant now........
