My biggest tip which I said in my videos many times is to have a big breakfast, light lunch and decent dinner! If you have a big lunch you will be shattered to continue. Keep your energy levels high! Safe riding I will be watching :)

Great video m8, i think this clip is the one that give me the inspiration to buy a GSA...now! and not wait to the next summer. 👍👍👍 Still days left to ride a GSA, before winter ends it for me.

The "knobbly things" are left over from the tire molding process. They have nothing to do with "spongy feeling." They do indicate that you have yet to do any serious cornering. That unused band of tire (tyres to you) some call "chicken strips." You are wise to be cautious to not ride overly aggressively on new tires. BTW: How to you like the Adventure tires? I just got them on my GSA. A bit "buzzy" at certain speeds but not bad. I think I like them.

Good comments/advice Mike D. Buddy, you might find the adv tires spongy, particularly if not yet scrubbed in, compared to more road biased tyres. But you'll get used to the way they feel on the road - probably have by now. Do you intend to do some off-road work on this trip ? Otherwise is there a reason for the 50/50 adv tyres? If you're just on road you may have been better with an 80/20 or so tyre - quieter, smoother ride and better life. The adv tyre will be a bit noisier and not last as long - depends on the tyre of course. But you're underway, and what you have will do the job. If you're doing lots of straight (highway) miles, you might find the tyres just won't get a chance to wear on the sides and can just wear flat in the middle. That can eventually cause an edge which can be a nuisance when you are cornering any time. Some people take any [safe]opportunity to sway the bike to and fro (a la race drivers warming their tyres) as they're riding, to help wear that edge.

@@deanshaw2128 All good points. And, the compound used on the edges of these sophisticated tyres is actually "softer" than that used on the center portion (for improved grip when leaned during cornering). However, the edges ought not be described as "spongy." I would be curious to know to what PSI the tyres are being inflated. My personal preference is to inflate to the "fully laden" OEM spec. I think there is no appreciable loss in traction and mileage and wear are much improved.
@deanshaw2128

Absolutely right Mike. Spongy is just Buddy’s description - he may just mean they feel different to what he’s accustomed to on the bike ??? There are variables of course, but even a 50/50 can feel a bit awkward for the first time if you’re coming off a road tyre - I don’t know Buddy’s riding background. Like you say, I certainly keep my tyres at BMW’s spec., even in sand (unless it’s too deep). Always carry a pump, but rarely drop them down. My GSA (2017) came with Anakee3s, and I did around Australia on those - lasted 30k, but a nightmare off road. Standard fallback is K60Scouts - good mileage and can handle a bit of off road when the need arises. Last big off road trip used new Anakee Wilds - quite impressed. I haven’t tried the Michelin Adventures, I believe they are standard issue on the 1250 now ?

For longer journeys I always take my Kreiga R20 with a slide in 1.5 litre water bladder. Constant sipping prevents dehydration, loss of concentration and potential carnage plus the water bladder keeps your back cool. It's a bad move not wearing ear plugs !

Best of look on the trip buddy hope all goes well for you .small trick I have learned in these hotels with the card for opening the door and keeping the power on when you go out of the room with your card there is no power for charging your gear so keep a spare door key from a hotel and put it in the power slot while you are out and it will keep your gear charging 👍

Hi Buddy, thanks for making the effort to do the vlog. I've thought about it but just found it too hard when I'm actually travelling, so I admire your efforts. Don't get too caught up in the video production, I'm happy to see the journey as it is, rather than something too stylised. I also do most [longer] rides solo, but go through a bit of anxiety and doubting of my ability before each new challenge - only to find it always works out ok. That's what adventure is about. Off the top of my head, my advice is (I hate giving advice!)... -always wear your ear plugs. -get a back-pack or tank bag water bladder (the space in the Rallye suit doesn't work), and stay hydrated. -always be comfortable - or stop and get comfortable. -stop for a break about every two hours/200klms. -wear the right sports underwear (critical for us older gents!); a bit of padding/soothing gel either side of the forward nether regions will pay off in the long run too ! -just bloody enjoy the ride, and the adventure and the time in your own head. Lot of people here wishing you well, as do I. Have a great trip....somewhat envious !!

Hi Buddy Enjoy the experience, you'll also enjoy the learning curve for your first tour. Once you've completed this one, you'll be itching to start organising your next tour. One tip from me is, don't always leave your panniers and top box on the bike overnight, the aluminium boxes are so expensive that they are easy pickings even when they are locked for the experienced thief! 👍

Honestly people say I look rich but it’s actually just hard work. I do everything myself from fixing my own cars to building my own houses. I don’t pay anyone to do anything for me. I can even repair my own dishwasher now. Paying people to do things for you cost a fortune. I say to people learn new things and you will manage money. What’s your life story where are you from?
